All I Need is my Security Toothbrush

This isn't the best picture, but if you look closely you'll see that my bedspread really needs to be replaced, but that's not what I'm talking about. If you look closely enough, you'll see that my daughter has a lovely bruise on her cheek from falling off the chair on which she was climbing, but that's not what I'm talking about either. If you look very carefully, you'll see that my daughter fell asleep holding her prized posession - a toothbrush. Who needs a blankie or a pacifier when you have a trusty ole toothbrush? Only my kids. @@ The only problem is that the toothbrush belongs (or belongED) to her brother. Ew.

So, I went to the store to buy a replacement for my son. Why are there twenty billion different toothbrushes from which to choose? Why? Is brushing your teeth really such a science? Why exactly are there toothbrushes with little pieces of plastic spiking out from the bristles? Why are there toothbrushes with scrapers to clean your tongue, spinning mechanisms to give your gums a massage, flashing lights and sound chips so you can listen to a tune while cleaning your teeth? Is all that really necessary? With all the money put into toothbrush development, marketing, and advertising, I bet we could wipe out cancer, find a cure for alzheimers, feed the world, and develop a boarding school for toddlers.

A friend of mine posted a bulletin about your pokemon auction on myspace, so thats how i came to read your blog!

My two year old had the same obsession with tooth brushes when he was younger! He had to have it everywhere and even when he sees it now every now and then he will go nuts if he cant take it with him everywhere for a few days!!

My favorite was when he would rub it on stuff or drop it on the floor and then put it in his mouth, but OH if i tried to take it away it was the end of the world!!!

My 18 month old nephew is obsessed with his toothbrush. Carries it everywhere and sleeps with it. Forget all those fancy toys.

P.S. - Yes, I found your blog through the eBay auction. You're my new hero.

My 5 yr old son sleeps with a wooden spoon!! It lays on his bedside table all day waiting for him... it always has.

You are wonderful! God bless you!

I can totally relate to this entire post: old bedspread, child wounded from their own adventures and toothbrush obsession. My 17 month old LOVES her toothbrush as well. "Teeth! TEETH!" she cries begging for it. I try not to let her see me wash my hands in the bathroom because any activity near the sink means time to brush.

And you are right about all the toothbrushes. The last time I bought some I was glazed over, crouched in the aisle while the kids bounced off the walls of the store. Too...many...choices!

My daughter is now 10 but when she was a toddler, her security item was her jelly shoes. Even after she outgrew them, she wanted to carry them around with her everywhere. I never understood that. I finally had to sneak them off one day when we got new exciting shoes.
You are totally my hero and I salute you.
