I Think I'll Keep Bob

I don't really have questions for a Sunday Sound Out tonight and I'm going to bed early because I have to leave at 5:45 to get to the hospital for my surgery in the morning. I'm NOT looking forward to it. I mean, I don't care so much about pain, but I hate, hate, HATE the feeling of being put out with anesthesia. That horrible buzzing in your ears followed by blackness is awful! And I especially hate waking up and puking for the next several hours. I spoke to the anesthesiologist and told him I didn't want any pain relief stronger than Advil because narcotics also make me dizzy and nauseous. He prescribed a sea sickness patch for me to put on tonight. He also said they'd try to avoid certain gasses and they'd give me anti-nausea drugs. Still, he admited that some people just get sick no matter what they do to try to avoid it. And certain procedures are notorious for causing vomiting; procedures such as laparoscopic abdominal surgery. Lucky me.

And really, I hate going in for surgery on something that's not even bothering me! I have no pain from this dermoid cyst. None. In fact, the only reason I even know it's there is because they just happened to find it during the CT I had with my diverticulitis flare-up. I think I should just keep it. I'll name it and it can live on my ovary forever. And since it's a nasty cyst with hair and teeth, it's fitting it should have a name. I think Bob will be its name. And it can be like Voldemort in the first Harry Potter, living on Professor Quirrell. Yes, that's my new plan. I'll just tell my doctor that I've changed my mind tomorrow. I'm sure she'll understand, especially since she didn't go for my first plan wherein I begged her to take out both ovaries, my uterus, my gallbladder, and my appendix (for good measure - you know, just in case), and then do some big-time lyposuction and a tummy tuck.

Anyway, prayers would be appreciated. Prayers, not only for me and the people caring for me, but for my kids and the hope that they don't burn down the house while I'm recovering this week. Thank you!

Hope everything goes well for you tomorrow, with a minimum of vomiting & pain and a maximum of uber well behaved children. Hang in there Dawn.

Good luck, Dawn. Don't forget: Deep Breaths. Happy Thoughts. Repeat as often as necessary. Mind over matter and all that crap! You can do it!

Have you notified the fire department just in case?

Good Luck Dawn, I feel for you. I just had surgery on my ankle the 5th of November. The recovery for it is 3 months with 6-8 weeks non weight bearing on that foot. It is of course my right foot. I am sure once the unpleasantness is over it will get better. Good luck to whoever is helping you out with the kids, though in tough times, kids can really pull through for each other. I am sure it will all work out in the end. Prayers and good thoughts headed your way!!!

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow. I just had foot surgery almost 3 weeks ago but unlike you, I sort of like the deep sleep I get with general anesthesia. But then again, I don't have the nausea issues....This last time they did give me some anti-nausea meds beforehand and I was good to go.

And for what it's worth -- I had diverticulitis 10 years ago resulting in surgery - I was 43. I'll just say I hope you can resolve that through diet and meds. And if not, I will say that I've had no more diverticulitis since then.

Prayers with you tomorrow...

And yes, I did of course read that first as being that you wanted to keep boob. I need sleep.

Good luck!!! I am amandafgtc from twitter. I also tried to have my doctor remove my appendix when having my gallbladder removed, just in case and I was told no. Sorry I couldn't locate papers fast enough as to what they did for my panic attacks coming off anesthesia. Good luck and yes lets hope your kids don't burn down the house, I enjoy your blog way to much!

You have a prayer from me for a quick recovery and for your family!!

I also prayed for Bob and that you won't just let something that has been a part of you to be chucked in a waste-bin or taken apart for medical experimentation (or teeth-whitening/hair experiments).

Maybe place Bob under glass on the mantel with like a cool plaque that reads "Bob - he ate my ovary but he's not bad for dermoid cyst."

Bob loves you. A little less than your ovary. That he was a little more attached to...

Prayers and hugs Dawn. I'm having a cyst removed from my lower tailbone/rectum area tomorrow. Not fun -no food at all today - I'm hungry! Good luck with anesthesia.
