The Bats Won't Poop on Your Head

My sil and I took the kiddos to the zoo this week. The battery on my camera died soon after we got there, so I only got a couple pictures, but I'll share them with you. The zoo has a stingray exhibit right now where people can touch live stingrays swimming around. Ummm, isn't that what killed Steve Irwin ? Yes, please let me touch a stingray!

We all went in the Australian exhibit where bats fly around freely. Yes, that's right, BATS FLY AROUND FREELY in this exhibit. OK, I figure the bats can't dive bomb people too often or they'd be behind glass, right? So, I'm ok with walking (very quickly) through the Australia House. I guess the docent sensed my uneasiness and in an effort to put my fears to rest, said, "Oh don't worry, the bats won't poop on your head." POOP ON MY HEAD?!!! Well, I hadn't even considered that possibility until now! Gee, thanks.

Anyway, we had beautiful weather, it wasn't too horribly crowded, we didn't lose anyone, and we only had to pull Spaz out of one exhibit (he just had to chase a chipmunk into the Tapir's habitat), so all in all it was a good day.

And I thought I had it bad trying to squish all these guys in my little van! Poor kangaroo has to carry them around in her pouch!

This zebra looks a little like Boo....

His Vitiligo is spreading. :(
But the good news is - I finally figured out how to put a link in here! Yay me! I'm catching up to my six year old in computer skills.

Preparation H - it isn't just for humans.

Eeyyeew, bat poop! It's hard living in Australia and having a bat phobia as I do (give me snakes and spiders any day but bats I just cannot tolerate!). There was a school here they were talking about having to close down because the bats kept pooping on the children in the playground (and on all the sports grounds etc ). They couldn't actually *do* anything about the bats as they're a protected species

Dawn---I live very near that zoo where you were---I LOVE the bat house, but on a fieldtrip once, one of the bats pee'd all down the front of one of my students. Luckily, it was a student whose brothers pee'd in each others bookbags on a regular basis (I teach children with behavior disorders) so I don't think he even noticed! My boss won't go in there anymore, though, because he was standing right next to the student. My students get very brave when I tell them they are somewhere that Mr. O won't go into because he's too afraid.
Great pictures. You must have an awesome camera to get that close to the monkeys. I used pictures that I took at that zoo to decorate my son's room and bathroom.

I think I saw you at the zoo! I was the mom screaming at her kids that there's no way in hell I was stopping to let them climb into the kangaroo pouch and no I wasn't getting my camera out for the 100th time that day to take a picture of it. I also tricked my friend (another mom) into walking through the bat exhibit; all the while swearing at her under my breath to not scream in the middle of the exhibit because the kids had not yet noticed the bats roaming around freely. Great memories at the zoo!

Your blog is quite interesting and have a unique taste of pleasure and happiness.I remeber my own activities of childhood while reading this your post. Each sunday I read your atleast one post regularly. Your six flowers are very nice but one thing for which i worried is the vitiligo mark, It seem that one of your children is suffering from this. thanks GOD it is not on the face. because if this occur on the open parts of the body there is problem of sun burn when exposed to the sun.here I want to say that not be depressed by vitiligo. it is hard to cure and some time take many years to be iliminate but not uncurable. And it is very common disease as claimed by some vitiligo organization like vitiligo support and Anti-vitiligo etc
