Book Tour

So it looks like I'll be doing a book tour right before that most magical time of year (Back to School Time!) come August. I'm a little nervous about this because I'm afraid I'll be sitting at an empty book store, twiddling my thumbs, looking like a loser, and begging anyone who walks in the door to please, please, please let me sign a book for them. It doesn't even have to be my book. Any book will do. Let me just sign something so I don't feel so pathetic. Please.

Meanwhile, my kids (who will be coming on this tour with me) will be running around the store like loonies. Clay and Brooklyn will be playing hide and seek, knocking over displays. Lexi will be drawing in the books and asking me, "How do you spell this?" every minute and a half. Jackson will bring me a stack 249 books with the question, "Can I get these, Mom?" Savannah will be sitting there looking bored and complaining that I won't get her a cell phone of her own and Austin will sneak over to Starbucks, buy some coffee and then, hyped up on caffeine, act even weirder than he already does. Sounds like a fun time, no?

Which brings me to my question. I really, really don't want to sit in an empty store like a dork, so tell me where you live so my publisher can come up with a plan that includes cities of folks who know who I am and who would love an evening out without kids enjoy getting to meet me or hear me speak.

Thank you!

Laurel, Maryland!!!

It's exactly 20 miles south of Baltimore or 20 miles north of Washington DC. Any of those two cities or suburb areas would be great!!! I would so be there!

Hey Dawn..... how about you hook up with the really nice ladies at "Hearts at Home" and get a booth at their conferences! One in Grand Rapids MI (where I will be ;) ), one somewhere else (forget where) and a national one there in IL. They are a wonderful organization and have helped so many moms, just like you have! Check them out online.

Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, Oceanside, CA (San Diego Area)

Your publisher should really consider doing a military base tour! We have book signings fairly regularly and they are always crazy packed. Plus, if ever there was a dense population of SAHM's with multiple kids that could relate to and use some of your humor, it is on a military base.

Come to Albany, NY. The Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza hosts many authors for book signings. There are many cool, unique stores in Stuyvesant Plaza, including one that carries Red Thread Confections, which is based in nearby Delmar. Albany has lots of fun family things to do in the summer and fall and it's a short drive to Saratoga Springs and Lake George. I can't wait for your book to come out. I know what I'm giving my sisters and my son's preschool teachers for Christmas. They'll laugh as much as I do when I read your blog. My son is the dark haired version of Clayton, although he got a black eye by accidentally crashing head on into his friend the week before Jackson got a black eye. If you come to Albany, I'll come to your book signing with my 4 year old son wearing a Tazmanian devil shirt and a smile to melt your heart. I'll be the proud single mom with graying hair. I'm not dyeing it. After an 11 month wait for his adoption, I've earned every one.

I saw one Omaha, NE, but would like to vote for it again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and how ever many more times it takes for you to come to Omaha. Lincoln would be okay, too, as they are only about an hour apart, and since I live in Douglas, either one is an easy drive for me.

WOW! This is going to be one heck of a book tour! All I can say is - come to SC! The beaches are great in August! Your kids can hang out by the pool, you can hang out in air conditioned comfort, surrounded by adoring fans. I can meet you (and get a signed book). Everybody wins!

NJ- got to do somewhere in central NJ. Ocean Township would be great. But hey anywhere in the middle would be great. NYC is to far and to crowded so try for someplace like Ocean, Brick, Freehold. That would be great.

Thanks!
Andrea

How about the big T-Town. Toledo, OH here and I am sure my 3 year old would help in destroying the book store. We have a Barnes & Nobles, and a Borders on Monroe Street. :) Barnes & Nobles would be safest as you don't want the kids to wonder out into the great world of the mall.

I'm in the western Chicago suburb of Geneva IL but irregardless, I have a (proposition) strike that - make it an offer - for you. To spare you any potential discomfort of hauntingly empty bookstores (although I very much doubt that) I would be willing (for a generous renumeration to be negotiated) to travel along with you on your tour and perform as your 'broupie' (that's book groupie for you newb's). Yes, I would cheer and fawn and wave book and pen at you, for the right price I would even shed a hysterical fanatical tear or two. Anything to make you feel like an adored author. Oh wait, you already ARE. Hmmm, lucky gal!

I live in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. It's about 15 miles off of the geographical center of the state. So if you can only do ONE date in Wisconsin, what better place than the very heart of the state! I see that you've gotten invites from Wausau, and Appleton, which are both between an hour and 90 minutes away... they can SURELY make the trip to see you! Ok, I realize that those two places have a FAR better chance of seeing you than I do, so I'll drive there, but it would sure be cool to have a big celebrity come to Rapids! I mean, Patrick Swayze came here to have his knee operated on a couple years ago, but we didn't hear about that until he was already back on the plane leaving the airport. It'd be nice to have a REAL celebrity come and actually TALK to us!

You are an incredible inspiration to me, Dawn. Your faith and humorous outlook when your kids are being turds truly inspires me to try not to kill mine when he's acting like that... most days it works.
