House For Sale

I cannot believe how much time it takes to pack and declutter and paint and clean everything. It's especially time consuming when I'm spending several hours every Saturday and a couple hours most nights at hockey, softball, and baseball practice. But I'm getting there. I'm hoping to have the rest of it finished by next weekend.

Doesn't this look like a house you'd want to buy? Doesn't it make you want to move to Chicagoland just so you can get my house? Seriously, does it look nice? I haven't gone house-shopping for nineteen years so I'm not sure how this compares to other homes. And since this is my house, I don't think I'm objective, but I think it will show well. What do you think?

i think it looks awesome! the blue paint may not to appeal to everyone, but it looks clean, and not a lot of clutter or "personal" things out ("they" say to take personal stuff out). Now if I lost my brain and decided to move from sonoma calif. to chicago, I would so buy your house! but....I think the cold would kill me! good luck to you.

Wow! Dawn, you have done an amazing job! I know you got rid of a lot of stuff, but did you put some in storage, too? I haven't been house shopping lately, but I watch some of those shows on HGTV about fixing up houses to sell. Yours looks so spacious and clean. The bathrooms are gorgeous, too! Praying that the right buyer will give you a great offer! Nancy in South Bend, IN

The pics look great! Good luck selling your house! Are you sure you can't e-bay it the way you did with the Pokemon cards? LOL! Maybe you WOULD make a profit on the house that way! :)

Seriously, though, I hope it sells quickly and you can move on with your life in your new place!

I think it looks great. I will be honest and say that the blue paint in the kids rooms is a turn off. If you can you may want to go with a more neutral color. I love how decluttered the rooms are and your bathrooms are beautiful. Be sure to leave all the blinds and curtains open and ALL the lights on when you show the house. Plus make sure you have no candles or air freshener. Cook some cookies or bread right before you show it. I love staging houses and showing them. Good luck Dawn. I'm sure this comes with such mixed emotions.

It looks like something right off of HGTV! Beautiful....and if I wasn't moving to Florida myself, I'd consider buying! Best of luck!

I think it looks very nice from the pictures shown.

When I sold my house a few years ago, I bought some disinfectant wipes and kept those in the cabinets for a quick clean before leaving for work in the morning. That way if my house was shown by a realtor while I was gone it was nice and clean. I guess it worked pretty good because it sold within a week or so of being listed - and above my asking price.

Only I had an 10 year old and a 2 year old at the time - not 6 kids (I may have had it easier than you at the time). Good luck in the sale of your house.

You are doing a FANTASTIC job! This looks better than almost all of the houses I looked at when house hunting over this last year. I'm thinking, like others said, some might not dig the blue paint (the darker the color the more layers they'll need to put down to repaint) but as omg the bathrooms? I'd live in all blue rooms with blue carpets and blue shades and blue furniture for those bathrooms. :D GOOD LUCK and I can't wait to see the rest of the house!!

The house looks great! Don't you wish you could post it on ebay? If anyone could write a post to sell a house on ebay it would be you...

Blue is my favorite color, so I am biased. I wouldn't paint it as long as it is clean and fresh. You just need one buyer. I have looked at A LOT of open houses in the chicagoland area, and you would be amazed at the shape of some of them. Blue paint is the least of the worries. Your house looks amazing!!!! People are going to paint unless you happen to have chosen the exact color they wanted. Don't waste the time or money. The rooms look perfectly staged. You go girl!!

I agree about some people not loving the paint with a big exception. Everyone repaints when they move in, and paint companies are making better covering paint all the time.

I'd love to move back to the burbs, but no thanks to the snow. :)

Go figure...my first thought was, whoa--I LOVE theose blue walls! To each his own. Maybe that's because I'm still frustrating with 1960s era harvest gold appliances and turquoise bathroom counters. I think it looks beautiful, Dawn! I remember doing the cookie baking thing. I just bought those pre-made rolls of cookie dough (so I didn't mess up my kitchen) and only baked about a dozen at a time, saving the rest for the next visit. Good luck!

It looks great!
Where on earth are you going to keep the kids so it doesn't revert? At my house, it seems like every time it gets really clean a tornado flies through(ie my kids). Before I know it, the room looks worse than ever. I swear my kids have a built in clean detector. If it is clean, they shall destroy...

It looks great! But I would have taken down the shower curtain (nobody wants to touch or use somebody else's shower curtains) and the curtains in the bedroom (they're too outdated).

the house looks so great! Some of the packing and declutter-ing should have been easy. As in, if it was your exhusbands, it goes right in the trash. Or you could have had a small bon fire with some of the items, just for fun haha

Looks like a great house. I love the blue (I have a blue bedroom at my house too). You did an amazing job. Your bathrooms look so pretty.
I hope my next move is for a warmer weather location. Good luck.

I think it looks great. Much better than mine looked when I was trying to sell it. Praying it will sell.

I think it looks great! you have done such a good job, and you seem to be handling it all so well! I know how hard it is to be a single parent, but I do not know what it is like to be a single mom with 6 children! Good for you for doing what needs to be done, and taking care of your children. Congrats on your new job and good luck with the move!!

pmerry said...

Now you just have to keep the children out of the house until it is sold so it stays nice and clean! Easy peasy. Best of luck to you.

Your house looks great. I think you did a great job getting it ready. It doesn't even look like children live there. Did you put them in storage too? LOL!

I think it looks fantastic and I LOVE the blue rooms! To each his own, I suppose. You did an amazing job and you should reward yourself with a large rum-based drink. Or two. Prayers for a quick sale at a good price!!!!

Wishing you better luck than me Dawn, mine's been on the market for 40 months. No, no spare zeros there, I really did mean FORTY. It's crippled me financially as I can't even live in it due to being on the other side of the world now. And it's a nice house too.

It looks fantastic! Personally, I would remove all the window treatments. Some people really have an aversion to them, plus you get to see how pretty the window trim is.

Looks great! good luck!

Dawn: looks good and I am a realtor so I have a certified opinion (somewhat!! ) .
One thing that you may try is a website I got to often is www.militarybyowner.com or www.forsalebyowner.com they give you the signage and you can post your listing on their website for like 6 months for something reasonable like $79.00. YOu can add photos and information and a link to your house if you want. You may also look at Trulia and active rain.
Do you have an idea of what you may want for it? If I can help let me know I'll be glad to help give you assistance sfutral@bluewaternc.com
Good luck!
