D. in some pasta salad

Three baseball mitts were found...
A. under the couch
B. in the microwave
C. in the backyard
D. in the kids' baseball bags

If you answered C to all of the above, you are correct. Although, I have to admit if you guessed any of the other choices, you're probably right about those too. I also found a plastic turtle, a toy hairbrush, a toy spatula, a dozen plastic spoons, a bat, a piece from an Oreo cookie games, 2 cups, 1 flip flop, a squirt gun, a Hippity Hop, 2 empty containers of Play-Dough, a model airplane, a sweater, a couple dozen whiffle balls, an empty Coke bottle, a dried piece of cheese, a Tupperware container, and half a moldy apple. This is what happens at my house if we fail to remind the kids to pick up their stuff 5 or 6 times before calling them inside for dinner.

All we need now are some car parts, a broken toilet, and a couple old appliances.

Yes, we now live in the Everglades.

LOL. Your yard sounds like one of those "Look and Find" books.

I answered D to all of them.

My kids would love all those helicopters on the ground. I think they are kind of fun too.

Bah, you got off lucky. In the past week, I've found in our backyard:

(1) 6 forks and 9 spoons;
(2) my watch;
(3) 3 1/2 pairs of shoes;
(4) an electric alarm clock;
(5) two twin bedsheets;
(6) two throw pillows from the family room;
(7) one of our cordless phones;
(8) the wooden step stool without which I cannot reach my top kitchen cabinets;
(9) my 5-year old's car seat; and
(10) a $400 digital camera!

There may be more, too, that I can't see beneath the grass (our lawnmower has not been operational since last August).

I can understand 95% of what you found, but the alligator?

Weird kids.

Wow it looks just like my backyard, literally! My 3 year old also dragged a big cardboard box that was supposed to be recycled out into the yard. That was not so bad except it still had the styrofoam in it; which he proceded to break into a thousand little pieces all over the yard!

Seriously LOL--our yard was like that, too. The boys and I picked it up. We live on the coast so our yard is sand under the bark. No one has grass here because it doesnt' grow and if you do have grass you have to nurse it ten times a day to keep it alive. We dug so much crap out of the sand. Ugh! I even forgot about some of it! LOL

I was laughing at the pictures thinking that if I had taken them, that years from now they would be in my photo collection and I would wonder why I was taking pictures of trash in the yard.

Yeah, sometimes I feel like a hoosier! We have 5 children and I hate looking in my backyard (that backs up to four other backyards and wonder what my neighbors must think some times! :-p

I was going to say that those photos are very "arty" - then I saw it...

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT THING IN THE LAST PICTURE?

LOL! Only in YOUR yard!!

Hilarious!

Please tell me that you threw out the play dough... although as I say this I know darn well that my girls would want me to blow off the dirt so they could re-shape it.

I like how you included the place the item was supposed to be as a "wrong" answer in each of the multiple choice questions. Of course, they were dead giveaways as not possibly being correct!

This should make it easy to answer..."MOM, where is my ______????" and your answer is: "In the backyard!"

I thought that's what all backyards looked like. Just add a batting cage and your at my house!

When my brother bought the 105 year old farmhouse he lives in, the grass was 4 to 5 feet tall, all the way around it, and the only way to really get it down was to burn it, so they did. They found, once they were done with the controlled burn, 54 baseballs, 13 bats, 3 lawnmowers, and the burned remains of a vehicle. When they pulled the carpeting up, to replace it, there was a half eaten, petrified PB&J sandwich, UNDER the carpeting on the stairs. The carpet was tacked down! There was a sandwich UNDER there... So you've got nothing on them! LOL

Our backyard looks like that too, and the front yard, and the side yard, and now that I think of it, the inside of the van, the living room, the bathroom, wait a minute, pretty much every space my family occupies at one time or another looks like that after we've been there...hmm...maybe we live the same life. Does your yard scare the neighbors? Ours is the only one on the block that looks like that. Too bad it doesn't bug us as much as it does them! Love the blog, keep it up.

Tough quiz. Tougher than some I took in Graduate School. You need a bigger house so that you can loose more stuff in your bigger backyard.

Hi Dawn, You are so funny taking pictures of all that stuff! My husband is a carpenter and he brings home extra stuff. We have a yard full. Broken snow blowers. Broken lawn mowers. A pool ladder with no pool. Three broken cars. I could make a huge list of junk I wish would vanish. Kristine in Michigan.

LOL Dawn.
Have a great day!

Ok, but why only one flip-flop? Where's the other one? This is hilarious! I have one 18-month old and another on the way. I'm sure our yard will look like this in another few years.

ROFL!

LOVE the pictures! I failed the quiz. I picked "D" for every question except the last one.

Ohh! If you need an appliance or two to throw back there, just stop by MY house.

I HATE(no, really, I hate it) that my backyard is always a mess. I rarely even go out there anymore because I can't get it all cleaned by myself and hubby and the kids only fuel the fire.

I may have to challenge you on what I find in my own yard...
You are a much braver woman than I for even venturing into such uncharted territory.

Now. Come over and help me with mine. Lordy knows no one else will help, and you seem to be motivated.

Mowing your yard must be like mowing a field full of landmines!!!!!

Heather said...

lol Dawn- I think that's the piece missing from our cookie match game! But are your kids as much fun as mine? They take all that stuff and more into the backyard but most of it ends up over the fence in our neighbors' yards!

That is so funny! I just blogged about all of the interesting things found in unlikely places the other day. I only have two and one of them doesn't even walk yet. I assume the mess will just get bigger from here.

That is so funny. I kept wondering -- where is the answer that says "on the roof"? :-)

I am so glad to know I'm not the only one whose yard looks like that! Only it's my FRONT yard, and it's the work of just two little munchkins. Yep, we're rednecks. And a few minutes ago I walked into the front door thinking, "I really need to pick up all this crap," but then I didn't because I'm nine months pregnant (due tomorrow!) and it hurts too much to bend over or squat down. What are the odds I can get my boys to do all the work?

t said...

Of course I can't find a locker full of money in my backyard....only Dunkin Donut cups and anything else that my neighbors eat because they apparantly hate using trash can covers.

Great, great pictures!! Thanks for the smile.

Wow! Your kids are impressive. It's a good thing it doesn't rain around here so none of that stuff would ever get ruined (man, has it been nasty today!)....

And to think this is what it's like before school is out and the kids are home full time all summer. You'll have to provide another version in a couple months!

I've been meaning to ask you for a SSO question: at what age do you start potty-training? Have you found any proven methods that work? (seriously...?) My 3rd child will be 2 in August and potty-training the older two was pretty Hades-ish (they weren't really fully trained until 3 1/2). Diapers keep getting more and more expensive, and I would just like a veteran mom's opinion! Thanks!

You know what I love about you, that you not only are just like me, but that you are clever enough to turn it into a fabulously funny post.
I swear that is my back, side & front yard every darn day! I just wouldn't be smart enough to turn it into a funny quiz!

I walked into my bathroom to take care of things yesteday and discovered a 2-foot-long alligator in my bathtub. It wasn't real and I knew that but DH would have blown a gasket if he had seen it first. The kids fake spiders and snakes laying about freak him out on a regular basis.

Hey, do you think some of my missing spoons might be in your backyard?
And my stapler.
Would you mind checking?

I love that you took pictures of everything!

I'm just glad that I'm not the only one whose yard looks like that! I think "Lawnmowerguy" (as my 2 year old calls him) is the only one who really knows what's out there.

Look at all those "whirlybird" seeds! Looks like you have a bumper crop this year. When we still lived up north, we had about 20 silver maples on our lot - when the seeds dropped our yard, roof, gutters were covered in seeds. Don't miss that at all.

Hi Dawn, Don't you just Hate those helicopter spinny things that fall off the trees this time of year. I see you have a ton of them too. Kristine in Michigan.

I am laughing out loud! This so looks like my backyard. The "stuff of life" tends to spread out. Looks like you've been blesses as I have.

How sad. All that stuff and you still haven't found your "mind". LOL Give your kids a sugar free lollipop for all that. ;~)

Loved this! I live in a row home so my yard is entirely too small to put anything but our two pug in. However, I've found similar items shoved into my bathroom vanity. Such creative children! Needless to say I dread cleaning days...
