But I STILL Don't Wanna Play Tag

Domestic Spaz tagged me for a meme (still have no clue what that means) like two weeks ago and because I'm so organized and prompt, I'm getting to it tonight. Or maybe it's because I can't think of anything else to write....

Favorite person (outside family)? Sarah, Beth, Crystal Jackie, Jenny

Favorite food? Yes

Quirks about you? I don't do vomit, I hate the sound of styrofoam, I hate shoes, I'm apparently obsessed with the word "meme", I have enough bath/shower products to open my own Bath & Body Works, and I always step on the scale at least 3 times in a row just in case the number was wrong and I really weigh 20 pounds less than the first two readings because I'm insane.

How would the person who loves you most describe you in ten words or less? Mommy, you nice. I love you.

Any regrets in life? Yep

Favorite Charity/ Cause? Pediatric cancer

Favorite Blog recently? Ugh, I really don't have a favorite because I rarely find time to read them. :(

Something you can’t get enough of? chocolate, time away from the kids, time with Joe, sleep.

Worst job you’ve ever had? mother Hmmm, I don't think I've had any bad jobs. Or maybe I've just blocked them from my memory.

What job would you pay NOT to have? I wouldn't pay money to NOT have a job. I just wouldn't apply for a job I didn't want. Duh.

If you could be a fly on the wall, where? Ewww, I wouldn't want to be an insect anywhere.

Favorite Bible verse right now? Psalm 127: 3-5 Behold, children are a gift of the LORD. The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; they will not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.

Guilty Pleasure? Pogo. It's awful. I log on to play a hand of canasta and a half an hour later, I'm still playing. I've got to block myself from accessing it.

Got any confessions? Yes, but you'll have to call my 900 number to hear them.

If you HAD to spend $1,000 on YOURSELF, how would you spend it? Vacation

Favorite thing about your house? the fact that I have one

Least favorite thing about your house? size

One thing you are bad at? math

One thing you’re good at? making cakes

If you could change something about your circumstances, what? weight

Who would you like to meet someday? Jesus

What makes you feel sexy? my shirt. Oh wait, that's not me. That's Right Said Fred.

Who is your real life hero? Hero Guy

What is the hardest part of your job? the part between 8:00am and 9:00pm

When are you most relaxed? when I'm asleep

What stresses you out? my kids fighting, being late, being late because of my kids' fighting

What can you not live without? oxygen

Do you agree or disagree with the recent article that reported that blogs are authored by narcissists? Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I write my blog about myself because everyone wants to read about me and my life because I'm just that interesting and awesome and obviously no one is as cool as I am.

Why do you blog? First it was for money. Now I do it because I enjoy it, I love getting comments from readers, I feel like I'm doing something good and making people smile sometimes. That's pretty cool.

Who are you tagging? I'm tagging no one because there are people out there who do not like to play tag. Sooo, anyone who wants to copy and paste this meme (seriously, what DOES that stand for? How did the name "meme" come about???) and answer the questions, knock yourself out. If you don't want to, then don't.

LOL!!! I loved your response to favorite person outside your family. I always laugh at that commercial - "your friends are SO HOT!"
thanks for sharing your laughter :)

Dawn, at first I was asking the same questions: "What is this 'meme' thing?" "Where does that word come from?" And a number of bloggers were kind enough to send me very detailed answers on the etymology of the word. And I still don't understand it. So now I try not to think about it, okay?

I think you should read our blogs instead of playing Pogo.

LOL! I have NO CLUE what "meme" means! Someone just tagged me with the same thing and I don't have a clue. heehee
I did want to say, there is the "why do you blog?" question and I liked your answer. Same for me, I love reading the comments and HOLY...
since you mentioned my blog... I have TONS of people coming over to my blog!
You are one popular lady Dawn!

Sarah, Beth, Crystal Jackie, Jenny I love that commercial. The dad's response is the best "Get uglier friends"

Here you go:

A meme (pronounced /miːm/[1]) consists of any unit of cultural information, such as a practice or idea, that gets transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another. Examples include thoughts, ideas, theories, practices, habits, songs, dances and moods and terms such as race, culture, and ethnicity.

So, now you know! :-)

I didn't know what meme either so I looked it up:

The short definition of meme is here: http://www.blogossary.com/define/meme/

The long definition in Wikipedia is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme

I didn't read it all, either!

OK, I know WHAT a meme is. I just want to know who gave it that stupid name and why.

I love that commercial!
"Maybe you should have uglier friends!"

I love that so people felt compelled to find the definition of "meme" for you. I suppose maybe it's because they fear you don't have time between games on pogo. Too funny!

I love the narcissist question and your answer.

I'm always surprised when you say you don't have anything to write about though. I have so many half written blogs on my list of posts because I jot down little notes from time to time.

Keep making us laugh and we'll keep posting ridiculous comments hehe!

omg - i totally play canasta on pogo regularly now. ever since it was one of the weekly badges last week or the one prior. i'm so glad i'm not the only one. haha!

Hey! I'm good at math and bad at baking cakes. We should get together and start a business. I'll stay out of the kitchen and you don't have to add up any numbers...

To answer your question about who came up with the word "meme" and why - according to Wikipedia, Richard Dawkins wrote in his 1976 book "The Selfish Gene" that he coined the word to described how one might extend Darwinian principles to explain the spread of ideas and cultural phenomena. Okaaayyy...

By the way, the root of the word meme is from the French word "meme" meaning "the same," or shortened from the word "mimeme" from Greek "mimos" meaning "mimic."

Hey! We KNEW it had to come from a Greek word. Of course!

Jillybean said...

I always thought that meme should mean "Me Me" as in "It's all about Me! Me!"

Hey, it's easier to understand than that other one.

Anonymous said...

I just pronounce it differently and it makes perfect sense: a meme is "all about me... me...!" And yes, you are one popular lady - when you published the link to the Senegalese school I help in your Sunday sound out, the page had about a thousand hits! A thousand!

Me again.

Okay all I have to say is THANKS A LOT for the Pogo website reference because I needed a reason to spend five more hours a day on the computer. Now I'M totally addicted, too. Geesh. LOL

We need to start a P.A. group (Pogos Anonymous). "Hi, my name is Karen, and I'm addicted to Pogo."

"Hi Karen"

LOL!

I totally love Pogo! If you share your user name, I'll add you to my friend list. We could play Canasta together! :-)

I almost SPIT my coffee everywhere on your first answer. TOO Funny!!!

I've always wondered whyt the stupid name 'meme' as well. I still don't have any answers.

And speaking of meme's - I've read this one by so many people, and yours, by far, was the best - SO much more fun to read with all your humor! Thanks for the laughs!

Pogo. Yes. THAT addiction. I need some form of AA for pogo adicts.

Love your meme! lol So, how much does it cost to have the 900 number? That would be fun! lol Great post, so glad you found time to do it! Enjoy your day!

People can write blogs, but - remember this - no one HAS to read them! We read your blog because you make us laugh everyday. Thank you for that!! You are definately NOT a narcissist!

The only Meme I know was a girl in high school who wet her pants on the tilt-a-whirl at our senior picnic. I love your blog....it reminds me of my child rearing days before hot flashes and memory loss. If you ever want a glimpse into the future please feel free to take a peak. http://oklhdan-musingsamiddleagedwoman.blogspot.com/

Take care, Dawn!

*raising hand* Another Pogo addict here too. Darn McDonald's Monopoly game gave me 2 free months a few years ago and now I'm hooked. Canasta (non-frozen pile style please) and Addiction Solitaire are my drugs of choice these days. But I've seriously got issues - it's Wednesday and I was jumping for the badges to come up for the week so I could get them done already. How sad am I?

Um, I thought Meme was just another narcissistic way to talk more about ME on my narcissistic, but ever so fascinating, blog that is all about Me, and answers questions about me, and tells the story of me. Me!me!

Yes, styrofoam sucks! My husband laughs at me and doesn't get it. I have to plug my ears or leave the room...I hate when my toddler's toys come boxed in it, because I can't open them...I have to wait for someone else to do it...I just can't stomach it! Thanks for making me feel less alone! :>

Anonymous said...

Yep! Pogo addict too! Alimama1024 - add me to your friends lists!

Thanks for not tagging us! I hate tag! Not that I would have been obligated if you HAD tagged me, but thanks anyway.

I have an idea what meme means:
as I was scrolling through your answers there were a few where I caught myself thinking "I want to answer that one." That's when it hit me - imagine a child wanting to join in a game, "Me, me - I want to play, too!" And in computerland everyone abbreviates everything so it became "meme." Just a thought.

OK, I must be addicted to other things because I am addicted to Webkinz right now. My daughter got two for her birthday in April and as of now, she has 4 on one account, I have 4 others on two other accounts. It's truly crazy that I am playing my daughter's(age 6) stuff on the computer. Maybe because my brain needs a rest of all the complicated stuff that I have to do in college on the computer. It relaxes me and she and I have some really great bonding time when we build new rooms together and adopt more pets.

Have a great day!

LOL--First I am laughing at the name Domestic Spaz. What a cool name for a blog. Second, I am laughing at you Dawn for all of your crazy answers. And I am with you, why do they call it a meme? Doesn't that sound narcissitic or full ego? Anyhoo, have a good one!

Unknown said...

I don't know what the heck a meme really is either. My definition is "thing that gets passed from person to person and makes you feel guilty if you don't answer it"... that's the best I can do.

So aren't you glad I tagged YOU!? My jaw dropped when I saw you actually did it! You were on my list of people who wouldn't but I hoped would. Thanks for proving me wrong.

Thanks Shari for laughing at my name. It truly describes me. :)

I read b&ks response about what meme means. I think they are mistaken. I think it means "It is all about ME ...ME"

Your answers crack me up, Dawn -- as usual. And I'm so glad to finally know how to pronounce meme. I've been guessing at that for awhile as I've seen various bloggers do them.

Weird...my mom just told this last week to always get on the scale 3 times to average it out and see if the first 2 times were wrong or not...:)

looooove Pogo!!! Friend sent me a 2 week free trial for the "club memebership"..... hooked ever since! There is just something about getting rewarded for doing something...who can beat tokens and badges???? Love it, and I too get "stuck" there.... actually headed that way now....

Anonymous said...

Oh my god! I hate the sound (and feel) of styrofoam too!!!!
