-------------------------------------------

Creative title, no? I'm just speechless. And anyone who knows me, knows that NEVER happens. I'm still working my way through mail that's coming in faster than I can read, let alone respond to. I thought I'd just post a couple quick highlights from the thousands of comments I've received.

QUESTION: Are they all yours?
ME: That is SO funny! ROFL! Did you just come up with that?

QUESTION: Maybe I just didn't catch the sarcasm, but your feet aren't really amputated, are they?
ME: Yes, they are. Did you catch the sarcasm that time?

I've had numerous comments from people who'd had a bad day, who'd just received bad news, who had recently had surgery and were in pain, or who had just gotten home from a horrid shopping trip with their little ones. They thanked me for brightening their day and giving them a laugh. They thanked ME. Little ole me. Plain, ordinary me. Wow what a boost! Let me tell ya, it feels great to know I made someone feel better.

I've also had countless people write to tell me their own shopping experiences. (I'm saving those to read later.) Thank you for sharing!

I've had innumerable emails from moms (and dads and grandparents and teenagers) telling me that they could totally relate to my story and thanking me for letting them know they are not alone.

I had one (literally ONE out of the thousands of emails) person write and tell me that her kids always behave perfectly in public and are never a source of public humiliation. To her I said-
:::sound of crickets::: OK, that about sums up my response.

For anyone interested in numbers -

As of right now, I've had 18,417 people hit this blog today (despite the fact that the traffic had it down for a while there this morning.)

I've had 149, 023 people hit my auction.

I have 2,736 watchers on this auction.

I've had 1/2 a cup of coffee instead of my usual 6 because I feel like throwing up from all this attention.

I had to call in 2 reinforcements (ie grandma and grandpa) to watch the little ones today so I could sit on my butt reading mail.

I've had 18 finger cramps from typing too much.

I've had 3 job offers.

And we've got about 2 hours to go on this auction!

I just wanted to give you kudos for your witty sense of humor with 6 kids (I am having #7 and have 4 step children for a total of 11!). There are days that I just sit and wonder what the hell am I doing! You brightened my day.

Three job offers? That's too funny. Enjoyed your "short story" and I can TOTALLY relate. I can relate so much and that's the reason I woke up at 5 am on Saturday so I could grocery shop without my kids :0)

Hope you make lots of money! Looks like you're up to $100 on your little pack of Pokemon cards.
Oh, and you should let that one lady know that aliens have kidnapped her children and replaced them with realistic looking-but not acting-robots.

Just saw a link to your auction via cafemom.com and I laughed my butt off!!! I actually hope to have lots of kids, but I'm prepared for the scenario like you wrote about. You go!

I got your ebay auction through a mommy group and I am on page 3 of the "Questions" I am still rolling. I am a new mother to a large family since I've adopted my husband's two boys when I already had two children of my own. His boys are grown but its still chaos going anywhere with a 19 year old and a 4 year old and god forbid they be in the same room! I used to mock others complaining by saying thats why I only had 1 boy did I learn lol
My friend has a tag that says...
Yes we know how it happens and apparently we're good at it. I'll let you know if we're done after I hit menopause yes their all mine thanks for asking! Yes, same da, but we are waiting on DNA results, So we can see if I'm there mother.

I am a blogger myself although I wish I had half the wit sometimes LOL

Crazy Mother to 4 hoping for #5 after deployment lol

I got the link to your auction from a sewing forum that I visit. Most of us are Moms so your story gave us all a good LOL!

You've got a great sense of humor and I love your writing style!

I loved your story on eBay, and I've bookmarked your blog to read along with my others...

Just wait till the national channels start calling for interviews... You could be on the Today show, or Good Morning America. What will you do then? Will you actually thank the kids for being sneaky and conniving? Or will you threaten them within an inch of their little lives for bringing on the nausea and torture of being "famous"? Either way, good luck, and I do hope you make the best of all of this, as for the job offers, I am up for taking one too, if you can spare it...

I feel for you. Kudos for being a parent to your kids. They may not see it now, but they will be glad for it when they grow up.

Giant over in Virginia had check out lanes that were supposed to be always open without all the kid tempting items. There is a chance that some other stores might put that in as a feature if asked.

How come grandma and grandpa don't watch the kids so you can grocery shop? Or a babysitter? I know shopping by yourself doesn't lead to fun anecdotes but it certainly is faster

I am SO glad that someone shared the link to your auction on a homeschoolers list and my 13 yr old son, last of 4 at home, and we laughed ourselves silly reading ALL of the Q/A's on Ebay!! I'll bet you end up setting the record for number of hits on ebay by the time your auction ends. At this time it is up to $122.50 and I am sure that in the last few minutes there will be a frnezy of more bids, just so that the winner can say THEY won YOUR auction!! ROFLMBO

Thanks so much for sharing your humor, look into www.lulu.com if you decide to publish this work.

I read your ebay auction and had to check out your blog. I'm a mom to five crazy critters myself. I got such a kick out of your grocery shopping description. Holy cow, are you living my life? LOL! I especially loved how chipper you were with the first "Are they all yours?" and then to see the decline was SO funny and SO, SO true. The poor 16 year-old checkout person always gets the worst of me. I'm hoping your ebay auction goes well. Seriously, is there something we don't know about these dumb Pokemon cards?

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to reading some more of your blog, but it appears my boys have dipped their sister in some mud and now the baby has to eat...darn kids!

FANTASTIC shopping trip! But, I think it's plagarism. Becasue that was MY shopping trip last week. :-P

I have five children. The oldest is six. When people ask me, "Are they ALL yours?" I am often tempted to respond, "No I run a daycare only for curly-haired Asian children." Haven't mustered up the guts to say it yet.

After the last two trips to the market when a display of pepperoni and another display of cheap cookies were knocked down by the three year old I've thought about designing a cart that came with handcuffs, several on each side. So the baby could ride in the sling, the toddler in the seat and the other three could be handcuffed to the cart and thereby unable to reach the apple on the bottom of the pile.

When someone says, "You have your hands full!" I smile and say, "No, I have a heart-ful!" Seems nicer than other things I've thought up.

My blog is www.gombojav.blogspot.com Stop on by. We'll put our amputated feet up and drink a cold and multiple times reheated cup of yesterday's coffee.

TOOOOO FUUNNNNYYYY!!!!!! I loved it, all of it, the auction, the blog! You remind me of...we me haha! I am always trying to put wit into the crazyness of having a buggy load of kids! I have 5 -- ages 10, 5, 4, 2, and 4 mo... and often times a foster kid or two as well......
Here is my blog:

http://triplestroller.blogspot.com/

while it has been neglected much since February and the additon of a new one....baby that is, and the subtraction of some more brain cells. I too get the comments ARE THEY ALL yours?!?! Hey well do I have a great web site for you for all those come backs!

http://www.plomp.com/largefam/comebacks.htm

Here is an example:

You have your hands full!

Yes, happily so!
Yes, and my heart too.
Don't say anything, just look puzzled at your hands. (This does obviously not work if you are carrying a baby :-)
Yes, but I would rather have my hands full than empty!

Are they all yours?

No, I just went to Rent-a-Brat.
No, this is not all of them, my oldest is at home with the triplets.
No, actually two are the mailman's and I am not sure whose is that one.....
We always say YES, because they are OURS....but actually 3 bio, 1 niece, 2 adopted and 4 foster!! But ours in our eyes!!
No, a couple of them starting following us a few minutes ago. -- This is especially funny when you look at your kids and realize that one of them really ISN'T yours -- he had just started following you and you didn't notice before...

Anyway there are tons more on the page, funny stuff!!!
Have fun! See ya Later,
Triple Stroller Jenn

So will you be going on another grocery shopping trip with your earnings? ;). Your auction was the best and I'm also a new reader to your blog. You're hilarious. I'm not a mom myself but I'm the oldest of five and my parents often got the "are they all yours" comments and the "you're having ANOTHER one?!" comments when my mom would be pregnant again. Loved the camping stories. When I was fourteen my parents drove us to Florida (from RI). We stopped at motels along the way and my dad would park the van in the back and tell us all to duck so he wouldn't get charged for extra kids!

Ok, so I'll hop on the bandwagon. A link to the auction got sent around the local mom's group. I'm still marveling over getting 6 kids out of the house at one time and into the supermarket. Sometimes I think just coordinating a 5 year old and a 3 year old for a 'non-toy' shopping trip is punishment for some awful sin I committed in a past life. Thanks for the smile. I think we mom's all know that sometimes it's so very nice to know the trench we stand in on the battle field isn't a lonely trench. :)

Like so many others have said, You are hilarious. You tell stories kind of the way I do and for that, you get MAD PROPS- because I love to hear stories told that way(hence the reason I tell them like that ;)).
Way to go- I do the lectures too. I'm lucky in the sense that my kids don't go *toooo* insane when we go to the store, but ohhh lordy do we have our times! All of us do!
I loved reading what you wrote. If I'd had the $$ I would've bid on the dang cards myself because my oldest two LOVE the stupid things and refuse to waste more money on them than I have to.
Keep up with the funny reading. You're officially bookmarked.
And.. if you ever need a night out, give me a yell. I have 4 kids, 2 german shephards and a baby on the way. Not to mention the man-type husband-ish thing that lives here as well ;). I need all the friends I can get LOL!

A friend of mine (also a mom to many) showed me your "shopping adventure story" on ebay and I had to laugh. I said, "This is me, minus two kids" I get the same comments, the same questions over and over. And the astounded look when I say yes, they are all mine. Everyone says I look too young to have four kids. They obviously can't see the gray hair and fine wrinkles due to the blinding cuteness of all my kids. When asked about the kids I say, "Yes, they are all mine and we are done" (currently we have no plans to add to the tribe or zoo as they are frequently called). Thanks for making me laugh! I know it certainly helps to have a sense of humor when raising kids. Have a great day! :)

Dawn,

A friend of mine sent me the link to your ebay auction and I must say that your ruminations on a trip to the grocery store has to be one of the funniest thing I've ever read. I agree . . . you so should write a book!

I empathize with you because I have three boys, Davon who's 12, the youngest two Drew (almost 5) and Dylan (who just turned 3). The youngest are 22 months apart and I swear it's like having a set of twins. Those dudes are about to drive me to drink.

I enjoyed your auction story so much I'm putting your blog in my favorites.

Keep your head up and know that I am not laughing at you. I so feel your pain (and the enormous joy of being a mommy). You are truly a super woman! You go, girl!!!!!!!!

So long -- and thanks for the great story!

I just came home from grocery shopping with my five kids to see a link to your auction on our homeschool curriculum forums. I was so glad to see you had a blog and can't wait to see the rest of your writing- parenting humor from people with just one or two kids can be funny, but your humor I can relate to so much more :) And, hey, at least you bought the Pokemon cards- I have come out of the store with DVDs stuck under the baby carrier twice that I unintentionally shoplifted, but after five kids and many bags of things were in the car there was no way I was going back in.

Hey there.
You have a very witty style of writing, and certainly tonnes of source material. I read through your entire blog (I work 12 hours shifts at an impossibly easy job...lots of time to browse the web), and towards the end of it (which, since I was reading reverse, is the first entry. I'm funny that way), it suddenly struck me. M'dear, you are sitting on a gold mine.

I realized that I have no idea what I would do if a kid had their fingers glued together. I don't know anything about getting yogurt off of a tv (wipe and pray it hadn't set?). Nailpolish out of a toilet bowl? Completely alien to me (childless here, obviously).

But you! You have more experience than any sane parent could wish for! Have you considered creating a sort of Baby-911 website? What to do when Children Strike? Not necessarily parenting skills (as I've noticed everyone is an expert...), but practical stuff. What is the best way to find someone's free-range hermit crab? You could even take submissions (and maybe discover how to get butter out of carpet).

With a few google ad-sense ads, it would probably be a very useful and profitable site. Maybe enough to start a toddler boarding school....

Just a thought. Other than that, you write like someone who reads a lot. Which I mean as a very high compliment. Cheers and goodluck!

Anonymous said...

you deserve all the attention! this was the best read i've read in a while! and it is quickly circulating through all the mom message boards everywhere!

Dora said...

I just read your EBay auction and I was laughing so hard I nearly had tears in my eyes. I sent it to everyone I know. I have 4 kids myself and I get the "Are they all yours?" question all the time so I can only imagine how much more you must get it with 6. Plus I live near Seattle where people seem to think that 1 child is plenty and 2 may be pushing it, if you have children at all. I think there are more dogs than kids there. I also get poorly veiled shock when they find out I'm *gasp* a stay-at-home mom.

I think I laughed the hardest at your comment about your "7th child". I often tell people that I actually have 5 children, but one of them is older than me and masquerades as my husband. :o)

I know you are swamped with messages right now and you are obviously busy with your kids but I just wanted you to know that I'm right there with you! I look forward to reading your blog in the future and if you ever write a book I will snatch it up in a heartbeat. Thanks again for the laugh!

Well u sure have created a stir in Ebay land.... people who dont even go 2 ebay now bombarding it just 2 read what has now been added to websites all over the world. Im in Australia and your Auction was added to a mum (mom) site here.. wtg hun.

I am a single mother of 4 daughters 10,8,6,4.... and yes i also get asked the stupid questions from people... but i get the bonus question, So you going to keep trying for a boy? i was never trying before for one, why would i start now????? yes the things people ask and say to you when u have a mini bus family. But you have made it now that when someone comments, i will laugh and think about your responses... Usually when people comment on how beautiful they are i will let them know they are up for sale... but no refunds when u get home and satan appears :D

well enjoy your day hun.. and good luck with thye future... keep on writing, but dont try to reply to all the comments.. you will be there for days just to complete 1days of comments, just blog your thoughts that will be enough for everyone... to bad if its not.. tell them ones to come take the kids for awhile and give u a break ;)
