too funny!!! i want a repeat video in 6 weeks showing how well they learned LOL

Oh THAT'S how you do it. My mom had it all wrong. :)

I gave up on hangers and just put up coat hooks in our laundry room. But do coats make it on said hooks, oh no, they're all draped over dining room chairs. Sigh. And we have a one year old. Those coats are ours!

So.. hows that going for you Dawn? Are they hanging up their coats yet? My kids still haven't figured out how to put Shoes away. And the dog hasn't figured out how to stop chewing on them...

Hi Dawn,
I have 3 kids and have given up on trying to get them to hang their coats up.I have a big basket by the door for their coats now and they can't even manage that! lol
By the way, your little boy has the cutest laugh!

I love the little laughs in the background.

Too funny! How did you get Clay and Brooklyn to have such serious faces? How many takes did that take?

We installed a coat rack next to the door - we even hung it at the kids' height....Yep, they still throw their coats on the floor everyday. I will be sure to show them this informational video today after school :)

Clayton has the best laugh EVER! Thank you for the morning giggle!

LOL.......now let's hear back on how long this lesson lasts.
I have tried and tried here with my son, daughter-in-law and the 3 grandkids. I swear it goes in one ear and out the other !
(Note: the grandkids do better than the adults !)

Oh my gosh, I am roflol!

Mine hang up their coats. They cannot, however, put their shoes on the shoe rack. They will place them on the rug in FRONT of the shoe rack. I started collecting any shoes found on the rug and charging $1 to their owner for their return.

It's working pretty well!

get one of these and your shorter kids will be able to reach the lower bar to hang their coats -

Coats go on hangers? Really? We have hooks by the door and my kids (who are both old enough to reach and to know better) still just toss them in a pile!

pmerry said...

What kind of monster mom are you? You expect them to do all that work, OPEN a door, get a hanger and hang up coats when they can just toss them on the floor?? I have hooks on the wall by the door, and still we have coats on the floor. Good luck and thanks for the laugh!

THAT is too funny! Love the look of sheer boredom and annoyance on the face of your big boy. Classic.

May I recommend 2 hooks on the inside of the cupboard door for your two shorties to use? Works good in my house.

ha! lol! would use it, but here in south Louisiana, you really only wear a coat once a year when there's a freakish below 80 day!

Teach my husband!!! He thinks that it belongs on the back of the couch or a chair!

5 minutes after this video was made all the kids forgot how to tie their shoes. And that's it for this installment of "After the Camera Sleeps"

(cue wa-wa-wa music)

Loved it! My kids do the samething. Drives me batty. Your kids are beautiful Dawn!

Halarious Dawn! We have had the same talk, did the coat hooks, all to no avail. We have also had a similar conversation about the toilet paper. Sigh.... just to tricky I guess. Have a great day.

Jess said...

my little tip for kids that are too short. Buy the little Command Hooks and hang them behind the living room door. You can hang then right at their height, so no excuses. AND...they come off clean because of the handy little tab thingy. Your welcome Clay :)

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Oh my goodness!!!!! That's too funny! I am in love with Clay's laugh! That would brighten even the darkest heart of stone. Thanks for putting a smile on my face. I am still LOL'ing.

And I must agree with the previous poster who called you a monster. What kind of cruel person are you anyway? That is clearly much too difficult of a task for those little darlings. All that coat hanging will cut into their eye rolling and heavy sighing time...

Well, I thought I'd have an original comment, but nevermind. Just another person to say that we have hooks. Much easier than hangers. Not that it makes any difference to the coats on the floor--they're still there. But at least I don't have empty hangers flying around, too. One sure-fire way to get one of my children to hang up her coat, though, is to hang somebody ELSE'S coat on her hook. Voilá--her coat is on the hook, hung up by her very own self. And the someone-else's coat is on the floor. But if her hook is empty, her coat goes on the floor, too.

I totally LOL'ed at this, Dawn. Your kids are awesome and they look so much like you. <3 Thanks for the awesome lesson on how to hang a coat... Now... if only hubby would figure it out, too... *giggles*

I'm only kidding. Honest.. He gets it hanging about 50% of the time.. *bats eyes*... :P

Thanks for the laugh, gal! *hugs*

Holy MOSES - Austin became, like, a real man-boy since I've seen him.

Wow.

I'm considering stopping my girls' food intake to stunt their growth.

I noticed in this video that you changed your Ektorp sofa slipcovers from beige to navy blue. This is the exact same change we made earlier this year when we realized beige+small children is a really bad idea. Although navy blue shows milk stains a lot more easily.

Your kids take you about as seriously as mine do! As for hanging up clothes, I've almost given up cause the closets in the kids rooms are so tall, I almost can't reach them.

debH said...

Dawn, get one of those gizmos that hangs from the metal bar in your closet and provide another, lower bar for the little kids to hang their coats on. Then get ready to nag, nag, nag, nag about using it! My teens graduated from the little bar, but still think they can just "hang their coats" on the railing banisters... Oh well better than the floor!

Karen said...

Um Dawn....you asked the kids the wrong question. You asked them if they could hang their coats up.....you didn't ask them if they WOULD hang their coats up. Sure they CAN do it, but will they? Tee hee!!!

Rebekah Benimoff said...

Hilarious! I thought your oldest boy had that wonderful look of teen boredom. My brother had that look for 5 years. Age 13 to 18. And no, his face did not freeze that way, so when my ten year old gets that look I cannot threaten that! Ha ha! Thanks for the laugh!

Great Video!

Coats? Coats.....hmm.. Oh, yes. That's the thing my 5 year old wore today because she was a little chilly in her tank top and shorts. THIS is the time to live in Phoenix.

Jo-Ann said...

Oh Dawn, you are my hero. I am still striving for a pile of jackets. Currently, they are strewn all over the living room.

Once I get there, I will work on the hanger lesson.

Jacqui said...

I gave up and installed a coat hook rack. Its even low enough for my 3 year old to reach. Good luck with getting the kids to actually hang up the coats! LOL

JennyF said...

I am DYING of laughter! Thank you so much for posting this -- so true, and yet you make it so amusing instead of frustrating!! You're the best!

Shari said...

I love Clayton's laugh oh my gosh that is the cutest!!! So how well did the lesson take? We had hooks my kids did use them but they got older and didn't want to use it anymore so now, it's coats on the stairs on the floor oh it's a nice mess will have to show them the video!

Adorable! And your voice is so cute.

My kids can't reach, so their version of hanging up their coats is throwing them down by the closet door, and then I hang them up. At least that puts them in the vicinity of the closet!

Paula aka sixkidsmom said...

Oh so that's how it works!! Can you do one on putting up the backpacks next? My pile consists of both coats and backpacks!! LOL

So please, please tell me how I get my husband to hang his coat on something other than a dining room chair. Then he'll decide to wear a different one, leaving the first on the dining chair. When he comes in the house with the second one, he hangs it on a different dining room chair.

Oh, yeah...my daughter does this, too, but she has her own house to do it in now.
