Share a Little Comfort

What do you think of when you hear the term "comfort food"? Warm chocolate chip cookies, chicken and dumplings, freshly baked bread, and mac-n-cheese are the first things that come to my mind. My kids could live on macaroni and cheese. I think I've personally kept Kraft in business over the years from the amount of mac-n-cheese I've bought, so when they asked me to help spread the word about their Share a Little Comfort program in exchange for some blue boxes of cheesy goodness, I was happy to say yes!

We can all help share a little comfort through the national hunger relief organization, * Feeding America. Simply visit ShareALittleComfort.com to contribute a box of "The Cheesiest" to Feeding America. For every click, Kraft will donate a box of mac-n-cheese - up to a million boxes! Kraft will also be donating $100,000 to the organization.

Anyone use Twitter? If so, you can help out that way too. Every tweet that uses the Share a Little Comfort hash tag (#BlueBox) will count toward the million boxes. How easy is that?

And while you're at ShareALittleComfort.com, you can check out Kraft's recipe ideas, money-saving tips, and you can download coupons for savings on your favorite mac-n-cheese products.

Want to win a year's supply of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese? Leave me a comment here and let me know how you serve "the cheesiest" to your family. Do you serve it as is? Do you doctor it up by adding cubed chicken and broccoli, or hotdog chunks, or something else? Do you use it as an ingredient in a casserole? Leave your comment with serving ideas and I'll choose a random winner on Wednesday, June 3. Winner will receive a year's supply (50 boxes) of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese!

* About Feeding America

Feeding America, formerly America’s Second Harvest, is the nation’s leading domestic hunger relief charity. Each year, the Feeding America network provides food assistance to more than 25 million low-income people facing hunger in the United States, securing and distributing more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually.

I use it several ways... We love it as is...BUT it is best as is when cooked in chicken stock not plain water. Also for lunch in the summer months, we will mix a can of tuna with a box when I mix in cheese and milk. Changes the entire flavors of both items. AW man I hope I win this one :)

The new whole wheat Mac and Cheese! I usually add some frozen carrots/peas mix to give more nutrition.

Bring it to a potluck!!

Since my kids always have a hard time finding things to eat at a potluck, I always bring Mac & Cheese. I make up 2 or 3 boxes and pour it into a 9 X 13 pan. TA DA! Kids love it and adults too. And I always bring home an empty dish.

Garlic. A sprinkle of garlic powder (not garlic salt, already salty enough) or if I happen to have roasted garlic I squish a bit with a fork and stir it in... and black pepper. I also like it with tuna but I'm the only one so I don't get to do that often. Sometimes an extra bit of cheese if I have something in the fridge that melts well. But always garlic. I've also turned leftovers into pasta salad - warm it just enough to get it unstuck from each other and stir in mayo and pickle relish and chopped celery and anything else you like and chill it again.

I make it with ground beef seasoned with Lawry's Seasoning Salt and onions. Season the meat, fry it with the onions, and when I mix it with the Mac n Cheese I also add extra cheese. Add it to the cooked Mac n cheese and mix it. When it finished and ready to eat I add to my plate of mac n cheese a pickled jalapeno chopped up!

Oh my gosh. I would love to win this. My four kids LOVES Kraft Mac and Cheese.

My toddlers get theirs mixed with a bag of frozen mixed vegetables but the big kids wouldn't touch it with a six foot pole. They get their Kraft macaroni and cheese straight up :-)

I have 5 kiddos, each add their own special "gredient" My oldest loves it with pepper and mustard, the next on saltine crackers, the third with hotdogs, the fourth with ketchup---then again he loves everything with ketchup and the youngest just eats the macaroni uncooked.
I personally like making it in the microwave, less work and one less pot to wash!!!! I also skip the butter and use skim milk, this way I don't feel as guilty when I have a bite--or two or three;) skip yh

My boys love it with cooked hamburger meat crumbled in it. I've tried putting veggies in it too but they eat around them!

I still don't consider anything other than the Blue Box to be macaroni and cheese.
My husband and I had a date night of having Kraft Mac every Tuesday night and watching a movie.
We now have introduced the one year old to Kraft and she loves it! I'm sure with kids, there will be more than one night a week with Mac & Cheese on the menu! Mommy looks forward to finishing the kids food on those nights!

Mmm, we love mac n cheese! The kids especially love it when I chop up some Spam and fry it and then mix it in with the mac n cheese! Yes...I did say Spam. ;)

That looks so absolutely yummie, it makes me feel sad that we do not get it in Austria. My family loves cheese, it would be the perfect meal for us all!

We don't fancy up our blue box feast, as my youngest son would be appalled! Speaking of my youngest, he would eat mac&cheese every night if we would let him AND he thinks that once everyone has had a serving, the remainder of the bowl belongs to him and him alone. Leftover mac&cheese is unacceptable, it must be fresh (or as he calls it 'cooked on the stove' as opposed to warmed in the microwave). I do have to admit, when I saw that Kraft considers 50 boxes a year's supply I had to giggle - we go through at least 2 boxes a week in our house, so that would be more like a 6 month supply for us!

So c'mon Dawn and random number picker, make a 5 year old's eyes bulge out of his head by picking us and sending a big ol' box of the blue deliciousness our way!

Mmmm here we mix it up with a cup of cottage cheese, extra protein and ooey cheesy goodness!

Hi Dawn,

I mix mine with chunks of ham. It is the only way I will eat it. My son loves it this way or plain.

Adrienne said...

We usually eat it just as it is!

Straight up, as is, is how it's preferred by the kids here!

My 3 kiddos love it as is - nothing special added in. I haven't really tried to doctor it up any. Why mess with what's working?!?

Shan in Lone Tree said...

I'll be honest, I only serve it straight. Although, Kraft is the only mac & cheese I'll eat after an unfortunate incident with homemade mac & cheese as a child!

Stacie said...

Lately I have been cutting down the butter to save some calories. I usually get the spirals and use 1 tablespoon of butter as opposed to the 3 they suggest (saving 200 calories right there!). Then I just poor in as much milk as I want. We have a problem in our household because my husband doesn't like it very "soupy" and prefer it with a little sauce. :)

When my brother first moved out (he worked at a bank downtown Chicago, where they provided his well-balanced lunch), he made a box of mac-n-cheese every night. At that rate, the "year's supply" would have lasted him (1 individual) less than two months - ha!

My boys LOVE Kraft M-n-C. They would have it every day if I let them. Never mess with it - but sometimes add extra margarine.

Tia said...

I add chicken, peas, and a little tabasco. Kids love it!

I love Love LOVE Kraft Mac and Cheese! It's definitely the cheesiest! I love to eat it with Wrangler hot dogs and peas, or with tunafish (thanks to my lovely Mother who wouldn't let us eat it plain), and most of all plain!! It's SO delicious and I eat it all of the time! In fact, I'm constantly trying to talk my little boy into eating it whenever I have the craving so I have someone else to blame it on. :) PLEASE pick me!!!

HA HA LOL. Years supply Tee Hee, with 7 kids it would last only 12 weeks and that's if I serve it only once a week. Seriously though, I don't think my 4 year old could live without her weekly dose of Kraft Mac N Cheese. Served usually as is, but who knows, maybe we'll try adding something someday.

Ashley said...

Quite honestly I just serve it as is. My daughter always asks in restaurants if they serve Kraft or some fancy kind b/c she does NOT want the fancy kind! For me growing up, my mom kept children in our home and would often fix Kraft mac n cheese with hotdogs, putting both in the same bowl side by side. Of course as a kiddo you want ketchup on your hotdog and a little would always get on the mac n cheese. So to this day I like mine with a little ketchup added in for flavor!

Back in the day before my oldest figured out that peas were a vegetable I made him Mac and Cheese with Tuna and Peas for lunch nearly every day. Now that we have added more kids to the mix (and another is on the way...eeeeek) we just serve it straight up. I think we have to make 3 boxes at a time, maybe 4 if everyone is going to eat. We also discovered the Mac and Cheese powder in a can and that pretty much gets added to everything around here.

We cut up hot dogs and throw them in, yum! What a cool prize- Mac and Cheese is the best- my youngest would live on it if he could.

Jo said...

We like it exactly as God intended...according to the directions. My husband enjoys torturing the 9-year-old though by threatening to put tuna in it. She is guaranteed to flip out every time he does it. It's kind of their 'thing'...lol

jlarsonrn said...

I detested boxed Mac N Cheese until I was pregnant with #4 (who will be 1 tomorrow). I couldn't get enough of the stuff. Now, I still love it but not like before. At our house it's made exactly like it says on the box - nothing added! =)

AuntyM said...

This is a staple in my house. Yep, I make it as is and sometimes add extra cheddar cheese to make it extra cheesy. Yummy!

Anonymous said...

I like to serve it with hotdogs, but one year ago, after eating it for dinner, the kids got the stomach flu - not pretty. So, they don't like hotdogs anymore. So, now I serve it straight but my husband likes to mix it up with garlic powder, and dried mustard and sour cream. Yummy!

I like to add hamburger and green beens to make it more of a meal but my one and a half year old always picks the meat out of it :) at least he eats the green beans.

My son and I eat this all the time! We both love it and its easy to prepare!

Love the stuff expecially for my 6 kids. When I was growing up we were on a camping trip with my parents and one of my fondest memories was of the night it was threatening rain and we only had time to pull into the camp site and get out the coleman grill. Mom made macaroni and cheese right on the trunk under a tarp then she added tuna to it through it all into cups and served all 7 of us in the car while we headed down the road to the nearest motel.

My daughter hides her peas in her mac and cheese. We live on this stuff in our house! Love it! Jayne V.

We used to make tuna-mac, which is tuna, mac & cheese, and a can of mexicorn. While I was growing up, we used to put hot dog pieces in it. Now my girls are small and generally are purists. :)

Tim and Adri said...

Kraft mac n cheese is a staple here. Sometimes I throw a little pureed cauliflower in it and they don't notice. Also, use it for Mexican casserole or make a tuna casserole with it--VERSATILE!

Unknown said...

I serve it as a home-ec lesson. Because my kids always prepare it. It's the first thing they learned to cook!

Karla said...

My daughters are the Mac and Cheese makers at my house. We mostly eat it the regular way but occasionally have it with hotdogs in it.

I'd love to win!!

I loooove Kraft mac & cheese. We serve it straight up. I don't like stuff in my mac and cheese. We often serve it next to hot dogs, but never mixed together!! mmmmm...mac and cheese....

Becca said...

We cut up hot dogs and it honestly is my boys' favorite meal (hubby is included in that too)

Thanks Dawn

Jake said...

My family serves it as it is, but when I was little I use to mix ketchup in it. :D

Leslie said...

The kids (ME most of all) LOVE the blue box. we usually have it just as the directions read, but occasionally I add ground beef or hotdogs. My husband mixes his baked beans into his on his plate. Also, a couple of slices of Kraft American cheese just adds to the cheesy goodness.

Midwest Mom said...

WE only eat Kraft in our home...for over 19 years now!

We don't use milk though..just the butter, stirring like crazy along with the cheese! Goodness in a Blue Box!

50 boxes a year's supply? Not at my house!

I've always loved Kraft mac and cheese. With cut up hot dogs. Or with tuna and peas, yummm! Tuna and grilled asparagus when it's in season-even better!
