(Oops! I just realized I published the following post on my review blog by mistake last night. I guess I should've gone to bed instead of trying to write with my eyes half closed.)
Mimi texted me yesterday and asked if I'd watched Stand Up to Cancer on tv. Ugh, I missed it! I totally forgot about it. My son had a friend sleeping over and they were watching a video and I just didn't remember the show was on. She told me it was powerful and that they'd shown Julian's picture while Forest Whitaker read Mimi's words. I searched online to see if I could watch the show on my computer and found it HERE. So, if anyone else missed it and would like to see the show, you can click the link and watch. I have to say, I was ignorant and shocked when they said that 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer. ONE in THREE! So if you're sitting there with a person on each side of you, either you or one of those people will theoretically get cancer. One American dies from cancer every minute. Every minute! Scary, huh? Check out the link.

I would click the link but . . . it doesn't appear to be working!
Oops! :-)
Could you please fix that link? I forgot as well, darn it. I would like to see it!
I'm sorry! I didn't realize the link wasn't working. Thanks for letting me know. It's fixed now.
I missed it, too! Thanks for posting the link.
Those are some scary statistics, aren't they? But, think about it though, I'll bet you can count a lot of people that you know that have been touched by this devastating disease - I know I can. My Dad being the first on my list. He passed away 15 years ago this past May and I remember it like it was just yesterday. Normally, I can't remember what happened 15 MINUTES ago, but I remember that completely!
I say a lot of prayers every day and night for anyone who has been touched by this disease and I pray that some sort of cure is found soon!

I watched the Stand Up to Cancer (I'm a survivor - cervical cancer/uterin precancer in 1981) and I must say I was stunned by my reaction when they displayed King Julian's picture across the screen. My husband thought he was a child from our church or the grandson of one of my friends. I had no idea that little hero had made such a huge impact on my life. Thank you for introducing us, Dawn. I consider him and all the other stricken children to be the greatest heroes of our time, as they take it all with such a grace and remain so true to who they are in spite of the sickness and fear. God Bless them all!
OK, so this is totally off topic. Just wanted to let you know I linked to you today. Why? Because I love you.
Dawn,
I watched it, too! It was an incredible show. Mimi's words were spoken so well by Forest. Thank you, Dawn, for introducing me to Julian's World. I have been brought together with so many wonderful people because of your blog.
So far, two of the three family members of mine who have contracted cancer have been in remission. One passed on years ago from something else. The power of prayer is something that affects my life daily. Thank you Lord!
Ok, I just got my power back on. It's been out since Monday...I'm in Baton Rouge where Gustav hit. Through the 6 days of no power and a 3 year old who refuses to be entertained by anything other than the tv...it was hard! I just kept thinking,"Wonder what Dawn would do for 6 days with no power?" Anyway, I have a lot of catching up to do on the internet and yours is the first place I went!! Pray that Ike doesn't hit us too!!!
I actually watched Stand Up to Cancer on Friday and heard Julian's story and wondered if it could be the same sweet boy.
Thank you Dawn, again for making us laugh and cry. Julian's story and life is never far from thoughts. His fight and his courage can teach all of us adults something.
I was sorry that I had missed Stand Up to Cancer, and I really do appreciate your finding a way for us all to view this powerful show.
THANK YOU for the link! I missed it too the night it aired and was kicking myself for not watching it. It really was a great production. It was very moving to listen to Mimi's words and see Julian's picture up there. Thanks again!
Thank you for posting this. I lost my aunt on Thursday because of cancer. Tomorrow is her wake and memorial. This coming weekend we are participating in her honor in a walk to raise money for research for earlier detection of ovarian cancer, which is what she had. Thank you again, because somehow I missed that this was on, and I am glad to have had the chance to see it.
Thanks so much for posting SU2C - totally missed it on tv, but so glad to see it. So great (not the right word) to see Julian -heartbreaking to see him and hear Mimi's words. That was amazing that she was able to link up with SU2C.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for putting up the link-I was so upset when I realized that I missed it!
Thanks for posting the link. I missed it too.
I clicked on the link and found where Forest Whitaker read her words, lordy I bawled my eyes out again! I remember when my dad went through a years worth of hard experimental drug therapy (hospitalized 90% of that time) for Leukemia (which he died from in 4 years). He was 68 years old and said he only did the experiment for the children. He lived a good life but he felt horrible for the children who hadn't lived yet and wanted to help them. He is my hero :)
I have an intersting statistic for you. My brother in law passed away at the age of 35 2 weeks ago from anaphlaytic shock from getting stung by a bee. The statistic for that is like 1 in 6 million. And no on in the family even had an inkling that he was allergic to bees. Every one is now getting tested just to be on the safe side.
I'm so glad you posted this! When I watched Stand Up For Cancer the other night I was wondering Jullian was the same Jullian you have shared with us. Forest Whitaker did a wonderful job readin Mimi's very moving words. I was a puffy mess by the time the show ended. Did you hear they have raised over 100 MILLION so far?!?!?! Amazing.
I noticed Julian right away. And 1:3... I had a lump, and 2 ladies at church did, too. One had cancer. Thanking the Lord I was okay. My dad is a prostate cancer survivor, as are both my grandfathers. My childhood girlfriend is a victim. I miss her.
I can't even think about seeing King Julian and hearing Forrest Whitaker read Mimi's words without crying. It was all I could do not to wake up my 4 and half year old and hug him after seeing it.
I just posted on this very same topic on my blog. I've lost a few family members and friends to cancer, but never have known a child with this horrible disease. I saw Forrest Whitaker and didn't realize he was reading about Julian. I will have to go back and watch again. So very touching. A great cause. We all need to do all we can to fight this horrible disease, and hopefully one day find a cure!
Kristin
I was very suprised to hear "4 yr old boy named Julian" I was like wow now that story got around. It was wonderful.
I have it recorded on my tv and hadnt watched it yet..Thank you for that link, I didnt realize how much it would make me cry again. For anyone who hasnt seen it yet it is at the 44 min mark
I forgot about this too but I happened to be flipping the channels and just caught Forest Whittaker's reading. I immediately started crying. God Bless Julian and Mimi!
