Showering 101

So, I know I said I'd try to update from California, but I have been so busy and so amazingly overwhelmed at this conference that I just haven't had the chance.

Thank you everyone who emailed me to let me know that they were getting weird error messages on my blog. My blog loaded normally for me, so until you let me know, I had no idea. Apparently the person who did my blog design (who is no longer in business) did a horrendous job coding it and it took my awesome, wonderful, talented web designer and her team 3 hours to fix it.

I know, not everything is exactly the same, but it's readable now and considering she did all this work fixing something she hadn't even messed up in the first place (and on a Saturday too), I'm beyond thrilled! Thank you so much, Kelli and team!!! You rock! And she's in the process of developing my website and when it's up and running, my blog will be moved off of Blogger and over there. Make a note that it will be at BecauseISaidSo.com. You know, because you wouldn't want to miss one minute of my mediocre posts.

So, back to BlogHer...Wow is it insane! 1000 bloggers all packed into a room. I have had so much fun here! I've met tons of great people and I have a whole new slew of blogs to check out. I spoke on a panel called The Commercial Momosphere: Policies, Outreach, and Ethics (or something like that) and I didn't throw up or fall of the risers so all is good.

And I only flooded my hotel room a little bit. OK, maybe a little more than a little bit. Dork that I am, I didn't realize that the shower curtain wasn't tucked in when I took a shower tonight. I should have noticed the curtain was outside the tub because it wasn't sticking to my butt every time I turned around or bent over to shave my legs. But alas, I was unaware. Until I stepped out of the shower, that is. That's when I saw there was an inch of standing water covering the bathroom floor. Oops. I threw 4 towels down thinking that would sop it up. Nope. I rung the towels out and repeated. Again. And again. I just kept imagining the poor person on the 11th floor below me. I could see them just sitting there going to the bathroom, minding their own business when suddenly - drip. Drip. Drip. The ceiling started leaking, dripping on their head. And even worse than that was my paranoia that I was going to slip and fall on the wet bathroom floor and knock myself unconscious on the toilet seat and the maid would find me like that the next day.

I'm really excited to see my good friend from high school, Heather, tomorrow. She now lives a couple miles from my hotel and is going to spend the day with me doing the whole tourist thing! I think I may have to go buy some Rice-a-Roni and have her take a picture of me on a cable car.

More later....

Glad you had a great time. I hate that shower curtain trick. Especially when the kids do it at home :(
Hope you had fun with your friend, too.

Sorry about the local weather! Until late August through early October, summer is often more of a concept than a reality. I want to install a dumb waiter to the garage because I feel like a yo-yo going back and forth to get colder-weather clothes. Cable cars ARE fun to ride - catch the line at the Powell Street turnaround that goes all the way to the foot of Hyde Street (you have to transfer once). Skip the touristy parts and head out on the Muni pier for a wonderful view back towards the city. I'll keep a good thought and hope the fog lifts for you.

I really like the new design. It looks professional and still fun. It is more smooth and fresh looking. Your new guys did a great job.

I live in San Francisco for a year when I was in the army. It is beautiful. You will get all your required daily exercise and more if your walk around.
Places I loved- Fisherman's Wharf, The Cable Cars, Lombard Street, Coit Tower, The Guiradelli Chocolate factory, China town. The mall called embarcadero center was interesting. It is built over several streets, and covers a few blocks. The Presidio was really neat. We used to run across the Golden Gate Bridge for our PT run.

Glad you're having fun, Dawn. From what I've read from bloggers there, it is a real blast!

My real question to you though: given your paranoia of knocking yourself unconscious and being found by the maid, did you get dressed before cleaning up the water or take your chances?

Dawn,

Your site issues had to do with your photobucket account being over usage for the month (see what happens when your popular). If your going to use photobucket you may need to get the professional account in order to not get these in the future. I was in a forum with the people in charge because another site had the same problems and I thought it was my computer or them. It also turns out if you use Firefox 2 you didn't see this problem. If you use IE or Firefox 3 you did. Thought you'd like to know since I see your new designer removed the images which were the problem.

I didn't email you on the problem because I really thought it was my computer. I could do everything on Internet Explorer but not on Yahoo. I couldn't comment or anything or even exit out without having to Alt/Ctrl/Del. It was driving me nuts!!! I'm so glad it's fixed. That's how much I love your blog. I was going back and forth between browsers just to read it. Glad you're having fun!!

Dawn:

I wanted to email you this, but I couldn't find your email address anywhere (and who could blame you - I'm sure you get a zillion emails everyday.)

Don't ever, ever, ever, ever call your posts mediocre. Ever!

I used to do a podcast and we used to joke about what a crappy podcast it was until someone took me aside and told me to stop saying that and that was the best piece of advice anyone ever gave me and there are two reasons.

1. Lots of people come to your blog everyday to read what you publish. If you don't believe that it's good, why should they come and read? By saying your posts are mediocre, you're insulting and alienating your readers.

2. You work hard. You're a wonderful mother. You're a great wife. You're an amazing woman. It's easy to be negative and self deprecating. It's harder to write about your life in an honest, humorous way about the way it is because other mothers work hard and want some credit too. When you give yourself a little credit for doing the hardest job in the world, it lifts everyone else up along with you.

Seriously, humor is funny. Insulting yourself or your blog is not.

"I should have noticed the curtain was outside the tub because it wasn't sticking to my butt every time I turned around or bent over to shave my legs." LMAO! (Oh, don't you wish we really could!)

So you didn't like your surfing time in the bathroom? Ha, ha.

Maybe you can share the name of the person who fixed your blog? I know there are a BUNCH of us who were either waiting on a design or had a design from that company that went out of business! (I paid for a re-design and never got it - grrr!) Oh well, jJust a thought.....if your web buddy needs some more work.

Glad you are having fun and I'm sure you'll give us more details soon!

Isn't it nice to know that the person below will never know who the person above was. Unless of course he/she/it reads your blog...........

Don't feel badly. Did the same thing in our bathroom. Those double headed showers were confusing. I wanted to love them but they flustered me.

I do however totally love you. You are hilarious and gorgeous and I plan to drag you to the zoo soon!

Can't wait to see pictures!! I'm glad you had a great time, bathroom incident and all. I heart SF, coolest city ever.

Hi Dawn, For awhile now I have not recieved email updates for your blog. I have been just going to becauseisaidso.com and get to you everytime now. Can't wait to see the new changes. About your shower adventure, I had a waterbed that leaked into the downstairs apartment before. It was leaking through their dining room light and onto their table. That was awfull. Glad you're having a great time and meeting new people, despite your man-made pond in the bathroom.

Thanks again for taking the time to hang with me a bit while you played "Shell answer woman" to all the bloghers looking for the Newbie party. Running into you on the elevator was just the first of many of those "coincidental" occurances that made the trip so fun. I hope playing tourist with your friend was the same experience for you.

After meeting you Thursday night we played tourist on Friday. My little guys had a grand time riding the cable cars up and down Powell (past the hotel). My 5 year old cracked us up with his "I love this city" "When can we come back to The City?" (Maybe San Francisco rightly claims the title of "The City" if even a 5 year old instinctively calls it that.)

Hope you had an uneventful trip home (although I suppose an eventful trip would make for better blog fodder)!
