California or Bust

I had a dentist appointment today and was going to write about it, but instead I think I'll make a video blog about it when I get back home.

After my appointment, I went shopping for a pair of shoes because I'd decided that I couldn't wear my Crocs to BlogHer. I went to 50 shoe stores! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a pair of shoes that look cute and yet are super comfortable? I found dozens of cute pairs at every store. They were adorable! Unfortunately, I would break my neck if I ever tried to walk in them. Still, I tried a couple pairs on for kicks. Keep in mind, that at this point, my mouth was still completely numb. So here I am, stumbling around in these heels, my mouth drooping, probably drooling on myself and I couldn't stop thinking about that Seinfeld episode with Kramer and the shoes and the Novocaine!

So, I went to tuck my kids in tonight and I gave them extra hugs and kisses and told them I'd miss them. Brooklyn was ok. Clay was ok. Jackson was ok. Savannah was ok. Lexi cried and told me she'd miss me so much. It broke my heart. Then I tried to give Austin a hug. He jumped away from me and screamed, "Ewww, Mom germs! Quick! Stop, drop and roll!!!" as he fell to the floor and writhed around in apparent pain. I had to pull the guilt card, so I said, "That's nice. So when my plane crashes into the ocean, you can remember this moment for the rest of your life." At this point, he burst into laughter and pointed out the obvious, "There is no ocean between here and California duh!"

Let me tell ya, after the past couple weeks where I feel like all I do is scream at the kids because all they do is fight and make messes, I am so looking forward to this trip! I'm just sad I'm going to miss Austin's championship baseball game tomorrow night.

I'll be bringing my laptop and will try to update from the BlogHer conference. Have a great weekend everyone!

Wait until you start your landing in San Fran. You'll see plenty of water.

Have fun at "Bloghim", or "her", or "it", whatever.

Well, you will probably circle over the ocean or the bay before landing. Just sayin'

For comfy attractive shoes get some Dansko sandals or Clarks' new brand--cute stuff! There is a big ol' Macy's right by the hotel hosting BlogHer so go shopping!

I'm sure he will miss you but was embarrassed to say so. Boys. Please don't fall in the ocean. That would be some serious pilot error there.

"Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a pair of shoes that look cute and yet are super comfortable?"

Why yes. Viva la happy feet also known as Birkenstocks! Not just the two-strap-across-the-foot hippie style (of which I own three pair, but I digress) but different and CUTE styles! Example: http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s211/OhHeyItsBeej/1-3.jpg

Happy happy feet.

I hear ya about trying to find shoes that are both cute AND comfortable. Sometimes an impossible combo. I mean, Jimmy Choos are adorable (albeit WAYYYY out of MY price range) but comfy? I doubt it.

Anyhoo, I have one word for you: Danskos. These run about $120 a pair (which is a lot, for shoes; at least for me!!) but SO worth it. They are cute and oh so comfy. I threw away 3/4ths of the Payless Shoe Source shoes in my closet b/c I never wear them now that I have Danskos. I have three pair and I wear them ALL the time. They last really well.

Enjoy!

TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!

You can pretend I'm your assistance.

I'll make sure you are kept on schedule for all your important meetings, like lunch at Mickey D, or point you to the best, and cleanest food vendors.

I can discreetly pour stuff on your newly highlighted head so you won't scratch so much. I'll even brush the dandruff off your shoulders.

But most important, I will find the best places for your evening cocktail hour ...... with the appropriate entertainment.

Have fun. Bring me home a present.

So what's wrong with Crocs??? I wear them everywhere, I have pink with mouse holes, green with shamrocks, navy with da Bears, sandals, beach, etc. I love those. I only wear shoes that start with 'C' - Crocs or Clarks clogs - I have red ones, brown, black, navy, etc. dressy, plain, and so on. I don't care what my feet look like just so they don't hurt! from Sparkle

Hi Dawn,

I hope you have an awesome time at the Blogher event. It's good to know that Austin left you with yet another funny memory. That boy is a hoot! He soo reminds me of my 13year old.

So, a question for you to ponder.... What new & quirky things will you encounter in your home when you return from your trip? What do you miss most when you are gone?

Take care, be careful and have fun!

I just got a pair of Chaco sandals. They are so comfy and supportive of my sad fallen arches. Chaco has lots of casual-but-not-too-casual styles. A little pricey, but worth it!
Have fun in sunny CA!

That Seinfeld was on last night-it's one of my favorite ones! That one and the one with Elaine dancing.

Dansko's. I hope you ended up with a pair of Dansko's. They would be perfect in San Francisco and anytime you needed to play grown-up. Comfy clogs that last forever and look respectable. I've heard them called the official dress shoes of Portland, which is practically San Fran and VERY into our comfort.

Has anyone told you that it's cold in San Francisco in July? Don't expect sunny California, because that is a different part of the state. Other than that The City rocks! Eat some sourdough bread for me. Don't forget to ride a trolley car and go on the steep part of Lombard street. Walk across the Golden Gate. Eat in a hole in the wall restaurant in China Town or at least have dimsum. All that fun stuff. We used to cut class and take the bus to The City when we were in High School.
If you are into making jewelry or costumes go to General Bead on Minna Street they have a room upstairs with findings and stuff that is awesome. Then there is the Gunny Sack Outlet Store though I think that is in South San Francisco now, not in San Francisco. Have fun! Take a sweater!

Theresa

(I love these last ones and I'd love to try them! I don't know how comfy the high heels are, but they have to be more comfy than other high heels....)

However, in my search for some of these shoes, I found a curious blog: www.ihatecrocs.com. LOL!

BUT you'll most likely fly over the Pacific or SF Bay before landing. Tell him a flight attendant told you that (I am!! Really!) The guilt will haunt him forever ;)

Have a wonderful time! I used to live in SF, it's a great city! Go get a hot fudge sundae at Ghirardelli for me :D

Dawn,
Hope you packed some warm clothes. Growing up, we used to go to Candlestick Park (where the Giants use to play). We would have down jackets, sleeping bags and hats. We would watch all the mid-westerners show up in shorts. By the 3rd-4th inning, the fog would roll in and we would get the biggest laugh watching people who lived in winter snow scramble out of their seats to get warm. A game could drop 40 degress in a heartbeat. I think it was Mark Twain who said" The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco!" Hope you have a great time in that beautiful city by the bay!

Okay, so I ws reviewing the SSO from July 13th, and saw that someone had asked about Brooklyn being on the St. Jude's website. I'm fairly new to your blog, so did I miss something?!? Was she sick when she was an infant?

The only Brooklyn I saw on their website was a Brooklyn who was four, and lives in Washington State with her mom Dani. I'm thinking that isn't YOUR Brooklyn?

I think Brooklyn's only 2-1/2 now right? Could someone post the link to her pic on St. Jude's site? She is so adorable. I hope she is healthy now. :-)

Just heard a really good re-mix of that song:-)
Ever heard the saying,"friends don't let friends wear Crocs."?
Did you really go to 50 places?Wow!
Mephisto Shoes are recommended by doctors, and they come in cute styles.
