I'm a single mom of 3 girls
and 3 boys, trying to juggle
kids, work and laundry with
the help of God, family,
friends and wine (not
necessarily in that order)
I loved that! "If Brooklyn throws up one of you has to clean it up." You are so calm and matter-of-fact. Cracks me up. And I think I hve that exact same chair. Don't think I'll show my 4 kids this idea. ;0)
The freakiness continues...I have a video so eerily similar, but it's the twins spinning the chair together. If we swapped kids one day we might not even notice.
Is that Clay, the same kid that scaled Mt. Refrigerator in your kitchen.? He does have a talent for turning your average middle class American home into an amusment park. Brilliant!
lol I would have got Clay to walk towards you lol being dizzy and watched him trying to walk lol thats what I do to my kids ( omg I sound like a really mean mum ) I was going to leave a comment on a previous post about telling you where we are so you can come here for the book tour but noticed there was 665 comment!!!!!!! How about coming to Australia for the tour too that would be cool
That is SO my house...bought hubby a new computer chair for early Father's Day and now the kids fight each other for spinning rights :S.... glad no one got sick. God bless.
you have got to have the most adorable kids ever! I work with kids and i they just think of the craziest things to do yet still have tons of fun! Btw i'm super excited for your upcoming book! If your book tour comes to Southern California i know i'll be there!
Well, if this writer thing doesn't work out, perhaps your family can be *safety testers* for various products. You could have your own seal (Like the Good Housekeeping Seal). *Passed tests by all 6 of Dawn's kids* OR *Safety Tested by CLAY*. LOL!!!
Hey--if a product had this seal--I would buy it!! ;)
Ah, the simple pleasures of childhood. Reminds me of birthdays and Christmas when, for the little ones, the box (or wrapping paper) is usually more fascinating than the present inside.
Thanks for the giggle! BTW, I hope Brooklyn never urped.
Hi Dawn, That was hilarious! I can see all the kids that see this video trying it. My 11 year old just tryed and about busted the chair. Have a Great Day, Kristine in Michigan.
You (your children) just made my day ten million bazillion quadrillion times better than it started (it's only 9am). I love children's laughter!! I would love to have a ticket to that chair right now!! And you're right, what a cheap way for entertainment...you had three children doing "nothing" at the same time!! I'm impressed!! Thanks for all of the videos, keep them coming!
Clay is pretty good at that. I bet he's a riot on the playground. I should lighten up more... when my kids do something worthy of videotaping, I miss the moment because I'm too busy having a fit. :)
I agree with the previous comment...the scariest thing about that video is the footage of Caillou on the TV! That bald kid just creeps me out for some reason.
Looks like they were all having loads of fun, but I'm glad my Clay-wannabe didn't walk in while I was watching it! I'm just a bit jealous that you manage to stay so calm amidst impending disaster. Must learn to channel Dawn....
Ahahaha! That cracked me up. It was funny enough to start with, but to see him flying without his feet even touching the ground... awesome!
Reminds me of the time my oldest two "modified" the toy shopping cart that we had. One boy sat in it, while the other one pushed him from one end of the house to the other. I got some great pics of the expressions on their faces as they laughed and carried on(and eventually slammed into their-then 10 month old brother who was in his walker and would totally brace himself for the impact).
I have six kids as well and now my computer chair only has one arm. I never could figure out how the arm "just broke off" - I think I'm on to something - Thanks!
My favourite part was soon after you told them they would clean up puke if need be, Clay's sweet little voice pipes up, "Are you getting dizzy, Brooklyn??" and it SO TOOK ME BACK to my youngest two when they were a tad younger!! Clay and Brooklyn remind me so much of them, although my two are even closer in age (16 months) but he just sounded so much like my sweet little "Clown". It just so happens that I posted a few days ago something kind of cute about them. In one of your spare moments, maybe you can go check it out:) LOL
I am amazed you actually have any furniture left in your house at all! When my son was around two years my mum called him "Sid Bishop" as this was the name of a Demolition Company near where she lived. Their slogan was "watch it come down".
I could see my 4 heathens doing that, too. Thank goodness I don't have a spinning desk chair! My kiddos would either break it... or they'd break a bone trying! ^_^ I'd have been laughing too hard to get video of it, though.
Love the video...so great to see them having so much fun for no money!! We play that game too...but I'm often the CHAIR:(
* I think I'll have to invest in an office chair like that one. Debra P.S. I'm a fellow Minneasotan( sp?) I've been in Texas long enough to say 'ya'll ' with ease...but I miss the north. We lived around Lake Nokomis and left before Mall of America was built - someday I'm going to make there ~ you just put that 'yearning pang' to return and check out that mall back in my heart...a few blogs ago;)~
This just made me laugh on an otherwise not so hot day. I'm the mom of 2, an 18 month old daughter and a 4 month old son. Things have been rough lately. My husband has been away from us for almost nine months, the last six he's been in Iraq, and we still have eight months to go before we get him back from over there. Your blog, whether it be funny, serious, about your kids or about your most recent trip...never fails to brighten my day. I've been keeping up since the auction and will never be able to thank you properly for how you've helped me day to day. I will admit there's been a time or two at the end of a day I don't know how I made it through, I'll look back at the entries about your kids making a mess, or how you found things most humans would shudder at and it makes my toddler's tornado not seem so bad :)Thanks for sharing your life. Keep up the great work! I can't wait to get your book!
We had an office chair exactly like that, and guess what? The kids broke it swinging off the arm. We had to replace it with a new chair, since we couldn't replace the cheap plastic arm. Ah, life with kids is like disneyland every day!
That "Hi, Mommy!!" was so cute!! It's so funny seeing the things kids can come up with. Sometimes I wish I still had that much creativity left. Or, you know, that I weighed enough to be able to do that!
That was GREAT! I need to know what brand of chair that is that can withstand all that spinning and weight hanging on the side??? My computer chairs keep getting DESTROYED by my kids!
Yep we have that chair at home as well! Mine try to move it around but my younger two are small so the chair keeps on tipping when the oldest tries to move it around to fast. :o
I read your blog daily but dont comment since I know you are flooded with comments. But today after seeing the video I just wanted to tell you how envious I am of your family :) I have one son but I always wanted at least 4. And you have done such a great job of raising all of you kids. Way to go :)
Wow. I need to keep Little Miss away from this blog! She and Mister Man play the spin the chair game all the time -- they even take turns being the spinner and spinee -- but no one has swung off the side yet. He isn't strong enough to do it, but she certainly is, and she hangs and swings off everything else, so if anyone ever gives her the idea... I'm sunk!
I think this is so cute. Apart from appreicating Clay's creativity, I think Savannah is a really good sister. And Brooklyn speaks so well as a 2 years old!Dawn you are blessed.
LOL! my cousins used to the the same thing when they were younger. anything that spun turned into a disney world ride. heck. anything that MOVED for that matter. the youngest one (who's 6 now) still does stuff like that, although he can't get anyone to sit in spinny chairs anymore. last time he tipped the chair over.
Oh yes, I'm definitely doing this at the office next chance I get ;)
Love your blog. I have a postcard that I keep meaning to send in for Austin's (?) project--it's even addressed and everything!--except, well, I haven't written it yet. I also have no idea where I put it, or how much it costs for a stamp to the US, or if I'm supposed to go and buy American stamps or just use Canadian ones, or...I don't know enough about the town I've lived in my whole life, apparently. Maybe I'll get it in before May. Maybe.
Do we have the same kids?? My 3-yr-old spins my 2-yr-old while hanging off the side of the chair like that constantly... like a mini-merry-go-round : )
LOL! My son did that to my chair too many times. It completely unscrewed itself the last time and a bunch of screws came out. We never did get it back together properly.
Our two new chairs, we don't let him do that anymore. But, He likes to race himself across the family room (wood floor) and try not to crash into anything (Mom's rule).
Most times he makes it without crashing or hitting the dog. :-)

ahhh...the work of a child is PLAY and they can find it anywhere with anything! Looks like fun, Clay!
OMG you guys have my chair! Though I admit my toddler doesn't have QUITE as much fun with our copy, she does use it as her own personal playground.
LOL! That is something my kids would totally do. Now I remember why we don't own a desk chair.
That's awsome! And I love that the baby is clearly trying to still watch the movie, any chance she gets!
Oh, great. My daughter just saw it a said "Oh, toll, können wir das auch mal machen" which means something like "Oh yeah, can I do it too??"
Thank you, for bringing ideas like that in the old world:-)

I absolutely LOVE how you just let your kids be KIDS! It's awesome!
I got so dizzy just watching that video! Your kids are adorable.
What a brilliant idea! I must get together a few of my friends to try this...
That is hilarious! I have a 4 yr old who would love that if given the chance. Great video Dawn!
OMG, *I'm* getting dizzy watching that!

Aww, they're so cute!
Well that's one versatile chair! I'm glad my children didn't see this - they don't need any ideas.

I sincerely hope my DD never sees this clip - we'll never get her or our son off the chair!!
OMGosh... thank you so much for cracking me up this early in the morning! Are you bracing yourself for the hate mail? :)

Peace!
thats just way too funny!
I think I am a little dizzy now.
Such fun for the little ones.

OK< that was hysterical! And the fact that you are videoing it and cracking up shows what a good, fun mom you are!
And by the look of your over 600 comments from a few days ago tells me that you will not be sitting in bookstores by yourself!!!
Oh man... that was amusing. But at the same time, I couldn't help but fear that Clay would be a daredevil, let go and and he'd go flying somewhere.
How absolutely funny. Who knew Clay knew so much about physics to know that he needed that exact amount of weight so that the chair wouldn't move?
Karen
Hi Dawn, That was hilarious! I can see all the kids that see this video trying it. My 11 year old just tryed and about busted the chair. Have a Great Day, Kristine in Michigan.
Who needs spinning teacups when you can have a fully loaded spinning office chair? Looks like fun, hope the chair survived!
hee hee hee.......
That looks like great fun. I love fun moms. So many people would yell and scream but that just looks like a great time and a fun memory.
Oh and I have the same chair! LOL

LOL. Round and Round motion gives me motion sickness. I'm glad they had fun though.
Clay is pretty good at that. I bet he's a riot on the playground. I should lighten up more... when my kids do something worthy of videotaping, I miss the moment because I'm too busy having a fit. :)
I've been dyyyying to go to Disneyland, maybe I can convince my hubby to try the chair with me later! :D
LOVE it! That is one strong chair!
That looks so fun! So glad I am not in the chair though, I would call that a barf a rama.
Blessings
Troy
Very cute...It's great to hear you with your kids....Have a nice day.

It's a good thing that chair seems more sturdy than the ones in my house.
Don't you wish we were small enough to do that too! Looks like fun!!! (btw I can't stand Caillou!!)
Oh My Gosh, we have that same exact chair. LOL. Brooklyn is so cute!!! Loved the video, Dawn. Your blog is the best
CUTE CUTE CUTE!!!
That is hysterial! A future imagineer at Disney!
Isn't it grand how children can make their own fun? No need to spend thousands on toys, after all...whew.
Shade and Sweetwater,
K
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who allows spinning on the chair, though after yesterday's "fun", we might hold off for a while.

Just paste it onto one line. (Yes, you will indeed learn there can sometimes be consequences beyond a little throwing up.)

Amazing how many people have that exact same chair and yet my kids have never thought up something like that! Great imagination, Clay!!!
I love that you video all of this stuff for us to see. Thanks

Tooooo funny!!
Here's one.. possibly for your Sunday Soundout --
Are those cork floors??
I wanted to puke from dizziness just from watching!
Of course, I just downed a glass of champagne at 3:00 ...
WHAT?
We had to. Someone was celebrating a birthday in our neigbhorhood.
WHAT?
It's her fortieth.
It's not like we do it for everyone's birthday.
OK. We do.
We had an office chair exactly like that, and guess what? The kids broke it swinging off the arm. We had to replace it with a new chair, since we couldn't replace the cheap plastic arm. Ah, life with kids is like disneyland every day!
My computer chair is exactly the same as well . No kids to swing on it these days, just me

I'm impressed you lasted through that just watching. I would have been kicking them out of the chair so I could have a turn.
That was GREAT!
I need to know what brand of chair that is that can withstand all that spinning and weight hanging on the side???
My computer chairs keep getting DESTROYED by my kids!
Oh yeah, my Eli & your Clay kindred spirits for sure!!
I would have heaved all over if I had been sitting in that chair. What fun, though! Who needs to spend foolish money on toys?

can Clay come spin me I can't get the speed up like I use to!
It's amazing what kids can find to entertain themselves.
