Thank you Easter Bunny (Bawk Bawk)

First things first. BlogHer is running a little survey right now and they'd love to hear your thoughts. Take a minute and fill it out. All completed surveys will be put in a drawing for a FREE PASS to a BlogHer event. Thank you!

Check out the survey HERE!

Also, there's still plenty of time to vote in the Blogger's Choice Awards. I have 4 banners to the right -----> Go ahead and click on them. You can vote for my blog(and your other favorite blogs too) in any/all categories. I figure if only a tenth of my readers take a minute to vote, I'll have 1000 votes!

Like contests and give-aways? Check out Mamaslike for great items primarily from WAHMs, and the latest give-aways and specials! I haven't had much time to do reviews lately, but Angie's still hard at work searching for the latest fun products!

Yes, it's that time of year again. Time to freak the poor kids out by setting them on the lap of a guy dressed up like a giant rabbit. Time to let the kids run loose in an effort to find a few eggs filled with sugar, artificial flavors, and neon colors. Time to pay the therapy bills for the kids who don't find any eggs and subsequently fall into a deep depression.

Austin and Savannah are off skiing with Joe this weekend. You couldn't pay me to do that. Falling down a hill with giant sticks on my feet while I freeze my butt off is not my idea of fun. Anyway, while Joe was having some fun bonding time with the older kids, I took the little kiddos to visit my grandma today. They had an Easter egg hunt, and you could also visit with the Easter bunny. Although we love visiting my grandma, I don't think I'll ever go back for this event again. Ever. The kids were excited to find the eggs, but all the eggs were filled with candy that my kids couldn't have. Jackson was awesome. He understands about the diet and knows that he feels better and is more in control of himself when he sticks to it. Clay, on the other hand, is too young to really understand and he happily scarfed down a couple pieces of candy before I was able to take it away and replace it with candy that doesn't have additives.

Now, Joe and I thought the diet was working with Clay, but after the all-out screaming, insane, meltdown of epic proportions, now I know 100% for sure, that the diet is working. Not too long after eating the candy, he went into orbit and as far as I can tell, is still somewhere near the Andromeda Galaxy. It was a nice little reassurance that the diet is helping, and it was a great reminder of why I'm doing it.

Don't make me sit on this creepy bunny's lap! I'll cry! I mean it - I'll cry! And yell! I'm not kidding around! Get me outta here!

Jackson is saving Brooklyn from the bunny. Clay is telling me that the bunny is going to eat his ear. And Lexi is looking to make a quick getaway.

I think my nephew, Dominick, is saying, "What the...???"

Yes, I think the kids have been sufficiently warped until next Easter.

Oh and remember these beautiful pictures of snow?

\

Well, this is what is left. Not quite so stunning anymore, huh?

Yep, that's SNOW after it has been sitting around for a month.

I love when the weather starts getting warmer and the air smells fresh and clean. It's wonderful seeing the plants and trees that have been nothing but dry, dead-looking sticks all winter suddenly sprout spots of green. The sun which has been hidden all winter, starts making an appearance, renewing and energizing all it touches. The boredom and depression of winter starts to give way to the promise of spring. And, more importantly, the kids, who insist on spending every spare minute outside, track mud inside over every inch of floor and carpet because it's physically impossible for children to REMOVE THEIR SHOES WHEN THEY WALK IN THE DOOR!

Glad to hear the diet's working!

Your kids aren't conditioned to remove their muddy shoes at the door because you aren't conditioned to shriek, "Don't move! Take your shoes off!" every single time they touch that door handle. I sound like a broken record. And it only helps about half the time.

That bunny is even worse than the one that was beating people up in the YouTube video.

You'll probably get quite a few comments with the same question, but what candies can you give the kids while the family is on the diet? As a candy fiend, I'm hoping that there's something out there I can pretend is good for me. Or at least not completely horrible for me.

The big problem we have here is putting your shoes on before you go outside to shoot hoops on the street. Gross!

I would TOTALLY fill out all these blog surveys that my favorite bloggers have been posting but I never make it past the first question! My career is in advertising and thus I am disqualified from continuing the survey! Sorry!

New computer came today! Have been reading all day to catch up on week and a half I missed.
Anyway, I know what you mean about the mud. Kids played outside until dark today. Blue tile floor is brown.

Daughter - The floor is pretty muddy downstairs from all the shoes.

Me - Yea, someone should mop it tomorrow.

Daughter - Yea. M. O. M. M. Y.

I think she just volunteered herself :)

Dawn, I'm so bummed that your kids don't like the Easter Bunny! Ok, maybe my kids are just weird.

We went to the Kids' Expo in Schaumburg last weekend, and when Little Miss caught sight of the Bunny, she had to follow him around until she could catch up to him and give him a big hug. Then she wanted to continue following him around like a lost little puppy until I finally convinced her to try to find another large mascot like creature.

For some reason, my kids have always been into the big holiday guys and loooooooove having their pictures taken with them.

And Dawn, if it makes you feel any better, I'm certifiably insane. I offered to host an Easter egg hunt IN (not at given the mud outside but IN) my house for my babysitting co-op.

This involves an egg hunt where each kid is supposed to get 12 eggs (not that all the moms have dropped off their eggs yet, but I digress as usual). Then the Easter Bunny is coming to visit them for photos, etc. Then we're having pizza. THEN the kids will decorate the egg shaped sugar cookies I will be making tomorrow.

We have 33 kids registered. 33 kids, plus moms in my house. You may not hear from me after 4:30 on Wednesday. Remember how I've mentioned that saying no isn't my strength?....

"Falling down a hill with giant sticks on my feet while I freeze my butt off is not my idea of fun."

Those are EXACTLY my feelings about skiing!!! Thank you for putting it into words for me.

I have yet to see an Easter Bunny who is not weird or scary looking. The one in your pictures has really freaky eyes!!

Oh, what cute pictures. :)

Wow, I thought I was the only one that remembered that M&Ms commercial. Your bawk bawk on the title cracked me up! Happy for you that the diet is working for the kids, even though it was hard dealing with the after effects when Clay slipped up and ate something not on the program!

Becky said...

What's with the tutu around the Easter Bunnies neck, I'd like to know? No wonder the kiddo's were a little wary...they probably thought it ate the last little girl that came through, lol!

I can't say I blame your kids for wanting to get away from that rabbit. He's sorta evil looking.

candy that doesn't have additives?!?!??
Didn't know there was such a thing.

Hi Dawn, could you take a moment to tell more about the diet you have your family on? I think my middle daughter has a sugar sensitivity, as she will break down into sobbing fits for no reason at all, and I've linked it to sugar and/or preservative-filled foods. I'm just sort of lost as to where to even begin. Can you perhaps point me to a link? Thanks in advance!

Jessica said...

I don't think I ever had to sit on the Easter Bunny's lap. I suppose I should count myself lucky. That's one freaky-looking over-sized bunny!

Creepy bunny pics are my favorite! Yikes!!! Can't wait to take J!

Don't you wish snow would just disappear instead of go from glistening white fluff to dark gray slush???

debi9kids said...

OH! See now, that is what I hate about snow! When it looks like that after it starts to thaw. So not pretty.
A ? for Sunday...
Where do you buy candy without additives?
My oldest had a soy allergy (that he has outgrown) and it was nearly impossible to purchase candy or chocolate without soy added. I ended up making my own chocolates from cocoa powder after consulting a culinary school in my area.
Fun fun fun

My kids do a really good job taking their shoes off when they come inside. I know this because of the 10-12 pairs of shoes that are currently sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor. Even so, they still manage to track mud and dead leaves all over the carpet.

That bunny is going to give me nightmares.

We're doing an easter beer hunt. (No children involved, we're all in college) But I remember those days. I'm sure my mother does too!

Unknown said...

I'm not sure if you've really posted about it before but if not, can you post a little more about this diet you have your kids on? :)

Also - that is the scariest looking Easter Bunny I've ever seen. What's with the horrifying blank black eyes? Brooklyn is right! That bunny looks like he's about to suck out my soul!

roseys madhouse said...

WOW we dont have the easter bunny where kids can sit on their laps?
We celebrate easter this next coming weekend. I am not looking forward to the kids getting chocolate either especially after losing 18.5 lbs.
Oh by the way I love the photos of the snow covered trees and you were right the sludge that it leaves behind is not pretty at all.

OMG...I SOOO miss that Cadbury Creme Egg commercial (from which you lifted your post title)! The kids at the end, especially the one who said, "Bawk, Bawk!" were just adorable! I remember the year those eggs came out, I was so fascinated by how they got the inside to look just like a real egg, and they were my favorite thing in the world for about 10 years until my adult tastebuds kicked in and I realized they're really just TOO sweet (and actually a bit gross). I used to stockpile them the minute they were in the stores every year so that they'd last way past Easter.

My kids don't really eat much candy, so they can be happy they get a haul in their baskets, but then I can hide it a few days later and they forget about it. Wonder how many more years I'll be able to get away with THAT?! Hmmm, but maybe then I won't eat it all....

Hi Dawn!
Love your blog, makes me feel sane when I can't handle my 2 kids and you have 6 lol. Anywho, I wanted to send you a site where you can buy organic lollipops. Started by 2 dads that wanted to give their kids a lollipop that wasn't full of preservatives and dyes. These are yummy and made w/all natural ingredients.

If you want to try a few, please send me your address and I'd be happy to 'pop' some into the mail for you hehee.

Man I thought it was dodgy taking my guys to see random men dressed up as Santa, thanks goodness in Aus. we don't have them dressing up like the Easter Bunny. I wonder if this is what the Santa guy does in the off season?

Dawn - love the Easter Bunny pics! We have 1 and only 1 picture of oldest son with the bunny - he was about 14 months old, has his face contorted into a full on screaming panic and arms held out for his grandma (just out of camera range) to pick him up N-O-W! It's funny, in a twisted "my kid is going to need years of therapy to get over this" sort of way!

Oh! And a ? for next SSO. Do your kids believe in the Easter Bunny? DS #1 figured it out last year, but still believes in Santa and the Tooth Fairy - go figure!

Hi Dawn, That Easter bunny is Scary! I can see why they were freeked out! The snow is finally melting here in Michigan too. I am so happy to think of the coming months. The tulips are sprouting up here too. Have a Great Palm Sunday. Kristine in Michigan.

wow not sure I've ever seen a bunny with a tutu on his neck! i'd cry and run away too!

That Easter Bunny is scary to even adults!

I went out early this morning and took pictures of trees and a horse barn because we had a dusting of snow and I wanted to have those pictures available in case I ever want to paint again, which I probably won't, but... It's likely to be our last snow.

Good luck keeping the kids on their diet. I know life at your house will be so much easier--if not so entertaining.

Your kids wear shoes outside? Mine only do under protest. They have them on their feet when they walk out the door, but come inside bare foot. Then I have to remember to find their shoes before night, to have them for the next day.

Good grief, the survey took FOREVER!!! But I did it for you - figured you got a brownie point or something for me doing it.

Don't you just appreciate me and my poor worn out fingers from all that typing?

I'm starting to see the tiny tops of the tulips and daffodils coming up out of the ground. It has to mean it is getting warmer. IT HAS TOO. My kids never liked the whole sitting on the Easter bunny's lap. Santa they might endure for toys but the Easter bunny no way.

We just took our 15 month old twins to an egg hunt and meet Mr. EB himself yesterday. The results were not so mild. My daughter screamed anytime the bunny even came near her or looked in her direction. The torturer I am, made them sit on his lap for photos-sake. Just posted the pics last night...

MaBunny said...

oh yeah, I remember the beautiful white new fallen snow and how ugly and nasty it looked a few days later mixed with everything under the sun to turn to gray mush. You can come down here to Dallas Tx, where a week ago we had snow in the morning, and by Non it was all gone. This past Friday it almost reached 90!!!
Anyway that picture of Brooklyn on the bunny's lap is adorable, she looks just about ready to get that lip quivering. Hope you get Clay back to Earth real soon.
Take care and hope you had a great weekend. Hope Joe and the kids come back with all limbs in tact.

Ew! That's like the snow we had around for the entire month of December. It usually gets warm enough here within the same day it snows and everything gets slushy and melts. Not this past year though! The snow was around forEVER, and was sooo nasty by the time it all finally melted.

My kids haven't sat on the easter bunny's lap in years. I got tired of the exact same pic of them every year, with huge tears running down their bright red faces, mouths agape in silent screams.
lol I figured that was just a bit too much torture for the tykes.

Dear Dawn,

I'm 20 years old and I'm frightened of that bunny. Brooklyn, Jackson, Clay and Lexi are far braver than I!

Elizabeth said...

Maybe I missed it...but what diet for Clay and the other kids are you referring to? No judgement here...possibly this is something for my own kids, 6,2,1. If you feel like sharing your dietary tips and the reasons behind them, please let me know. I am very interested.-Elizabeth

LEAPING LEPUS! That rabbit is one SCARY HARE! Are you sure that it wasn't the infamous Rabbit of Caerbannog? He looks to have "a vicious streak a mile wide" as well as "nasty, big, pointy teeth!"

Brooklyn looks in readiness for a fast retreat in case he gets "a bit bitey"..."RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!" Could it be the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch that I see tucked securely in Clay's hands?

I'm thinking that perhaps the entire Monte Python group had at least one thing in common with each other...yearly visits to THIS Easter Bunny!

Sincerely,
Nancy Binky

I thought about your post today when we saw a kid punch the bunny at the mall.

The kid was freaking out in line and you could see he was scared to death.

I felt sorry for the scared kid and poor teenager spending his weekend in a hot bunny suit contracting all types of kid germs.

Ok, now I feel not only like my kids are unusual for liking the Easter Bunny, but I think I'm officially into the bad mom category.

I was at Party City (or one of those) today and bought what looks like almost that exact costume for my Easter Egg hunt on Wednesday. And I guilted my dad into wearing it. Here's hoping I don't induce any tears!

Even though it's no excuse... I cannot vote for you because I don't have an account. I don't want an account, I want to just come here and read your blog, and enjoy myself with no strings attached lol.

Oh, and we celebrate Easter next week, and there are no giant dressed up bunnies anywhere around here as far as I know. I've never in my whole life seen one thank goodness, cause yours was pretty creepy.

But for you... I did fill out that long survey gladly :)

YEOW that is one big bunny! (Here's one thing that I never thought I'd leave as a comment! LOL) Love your Easter post! Sooo I have missed a lot and didn't know that you were starting the Feingold diet! We've been doing it for a couple weeks and man it is hard to be stage 1 compliant!!! Anyway, I grimaced when I saw on the news all the way down here in Orlando about the Chicago tradition of dyeing some river GREEN for St. Patty's day! (happy St. Patty's Day, BTW!) Don't worry, they also showcased some Manhattan pizzeria for their moldy looking pizza. I hope it works for your family. I we ALL get through this upcoming weekend without people slipping our kids candies! I'm taking mine to an Easter egg hunt next weekend and then a private one at a party... and she's only 3.. you know the younger one's don't understand as well. Ah well, love your blog! Bawk, bawk!
