I'm Moving!

I'd really love to move to my dream house which is located someplace that doesn't get snow. I want to be able to walk out my back door and feel the sand squish between my toes. I want the sun to warm my face, and I want to feel a nice, cool, salt-laced breeze through my hair. I want to smell hibiscus in the air and I want to sleep at night with my windows open, the sound of the surf lulling me to sleep.

Unfortunately, that's not the move I'm talking about.  My blog is moving to my domain.  My new address will be BecauseISaidSo.com  and you can bookmark the new site when the transfer is complete (in the next couple days).  Now don't stress out about it.  Everything else will stay the same.

So I spoke at a church in the Chicago suburbs this evening.  I got to meet a blog reader, Ellen, there too!  I have an actual fan!  Hee hee.  That was pretty cool.

I'm too tired to write tonight, so I'll leave you with a reprint of a post I did on 8/27/07

Clay came in from playing and announced, "Look at my friend! Can he come inside?" I looked around wondering which neighbor kid was over this time and upon seeing nobody, wondered if he'd taken up imaginary friends like Lexi. Before I could question him about his friend, he thrust this in my face.

"Ummm, let's just keep this "friend" outside, buddy."
I suppose it could have been worse. It could've been this friend again...

Or this friend....

Clay jumped up from the table where we were having lunch and ran outside to get his cup that he had left on the swingset. I continued to eat, while conversing with Lexi when she suddenly says, "Clay has a squirrel!"
"No, he doesn't. He just went outside to get his cup."
"Yes he does. He's carrying a squirrel."
"Don't be silly. Eat your sandwich."
"Mom, really, he's got a squirrel by the tail."
I get up and look outside and lo and behold, my 3 year old is indeed carrying a squirrel by his tail. As I open the door to scream, I mean, calmly, tell him to put the squirrel down, the neighbor's dogs run outside and begin barking so loudly it sounds like a kennel. The squirrel freaks out and tries to jump out of my son's hands which makes my son, in turn, freak out and nearly throw the squirrel. I witness, in slow motion, the squirrel kind of fly through the air and land safely on the fence. I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it.
"Yeah, sure honey, you can keep a rabid, baby rodent as a pet. Let's name him Skippy and keep him forever. Don't worry about the fact that he chewed through our garbage cans. It'll be fun."

Congratulations on your very own personal domain! I'll be sure to revise the footnotes in my "Friendship of Buzz, Blog and Swag" so Business Ethicists all around the world can find your "oily, gassy crapathon" post.

You really should implant a video camera in your forehead so we can all watch your life in real time! I would have loved to see that squirel flying through the air! funny, very funny!!!! I just read about your Oprah tickets and meeting the girls in person, soooooooooooooo exciting! I'm really happy for all 3 of you!

Well, it won't snow at your new domain, anyway. It never snows in the blogosphere, unless you want it to.

Reminds me of when we tried to teach a four-year-old nephew the value of treating animals with a little more respect. After a little talking to we found him outside trying to teach a woodlouse to sit.

Ckay is a regular Dr. Dolittle! Have you noticed him having any protracted conversations with any of these "friends?" I have a few around my house he would be more than welcomed to take home, How about I send him a box of sluggs for him to get to know? There's plenty in my yard to go around.

OOH! Can you just give me step by step instructions on how you do that? My husband gave me my own domain name for Christmas but I haven't a clue how to move off Blogger!!! Thanks (I know you don't have anything better to do...........!)

Come to Australia!!! That sounds just like my house...

Sorry you are tired, too many kids - thats your problem.

In my opinion, the sand squishing between your toes is overrated. Because....if it is squishing between your toes, it is squishing in every other crack and crevasse on your body as well. :) Can't wait to see the new site.

I think it's funny that you said you met a fan because I had a dream last night that I met you! You came into the restaurant where I work. You had 3 teenage boys and some lady was with you who I assumed was your agent and your husband was there too! It was funny, I remember saying "Is that Dawn Meehan?" and I wasn't the only one excited to see you, so we ran over and talked to you...lol!

Clay would fit in quite nicely at my house. My kids act like squirrels.

Hi Dawn, I found a squirell that had been injured in a fight. He was laying in a mud puddle. He seemed to be dead. I took him in the house and washed up his wound. Then being the hair designer I am decided he needed to be blow dried. The sound of the dryer made him stop playing dead and he woke up and had a heart attack and died. I guess squirells don't like their fur professionally groomed! Kristine in Michigan.

I like it when you post previous posts. Your stories crack me up every time!

Happy moving --- good news - this time you don't have to pack/unpack the kitchen. That is the worst job EVER!

I know I will more than likely be the 100th person to ask but...

Why the domain change? Are you getting your own "offical" website?

Tell us Dawn...your readers want to know... :)

Congrats on your new site:) I got you bookmarked!

OK, the post is very funny from 8/27/07--and I needed that laugh today.

Great news about a successful talk (not that I doubted it would be) at the church last night. Way to go! You'll be an old pro soon and doing Letterman and Jay Leno! ;)

Take care! A fan in Dallas (aka the big D) :)

That is so funny! We too have renegade squirrels that do anything to eat thru the plastic cans to get at what ever their noses have directed them too! Thank goodness my son is afraid of squirrels.

We had a pet squirrel for a while when I was a kid. It was the only baby animal we rescued from the yard that actually lived! We had great fun with him, but rodent pee really stinks. Eventually, we moved him out to the garage with a big box of chestnuts we collected and he either died or grew up and became indistinguishable from the other squirrels in our neighborhood.

At least Clay's squirrel scampered away BEFORE Clay brought him into the house!

How exciting about the new website! You're moving up in the world. ;)
OMG! That story about the squirrel. HOLY! I think I would die if any of my kids picked up a squirrel! They FREAK me out!
My son Teddy though, every summer, brings us a lovely snake from the garden that he wants to "adopt". UGH!

Little boys and critters--yeah, no way to avoid it. I'm at a point currently with one boy too old to get them and the other too little--but one day I just know the little one is gonna get a lizard and then you'll see me head for the hills! (I hate reptiles! Well, with the exception of the one with an English accent on the Geico commercials.)

Congrats on your move, are you going to have a blog-warming party?
Love the old post - I once caught a shrew in my bare hands - my mom almost had a heart attack. I brought home critters of all kinds, still would if I could :)

Should I mention that when my dad was a little boy, he found a baby flying squirrel running around in circles in the middle of the road and took it home? My grandpa made a cage for it and they fed it with a medicine dropper until it was old enough to eat other things and it would ride around on his shoulder and climb up the curtains to fly to him and whatnot. Until his cousin played with it and didn't put it back in the cage and they found it later that day drowned in the toilet... so yeah, wild rodents CAN make good pets. LOL Though I think it's illegal these days???

and I'm shocked Clay didn't get ripped to shreds by scared squirrel's claws! ack!!!!

Reminds me of the time my 4 year daughter found a little gopher and thought it was a baby kitten. Fortunately we caught her before she picked it up. Your idea of moving to the beach sounds good to me too. I live in Southern California and when we receive snow it is just a dusting on the ground, but the desert is not the beach either. Hope your dream home comes true too. Hey, maybe you will become so famous, hubby can quit his job and you can work from your new home at the beach. Good reason to keep writing. Thanks Susie

At least you can be thankful that it wasn't a skunk he was flinging around, and hopefully this comment won't give him any ideas. As far as your "dream move" how 'bout a swap? I'll trade my Santa Barbara home where it is 70 degrees and sunny right now for a day where my kids get to experience snow :)

Just wanted you to know that I love you blog. It is such fun reading about all the things I live each day! ha ha! Oh and I love the larger font. Makes a quicker read.. either that or I am really getting old. Anyway keep up the good work!

Congrats on the new digs!

But let me tell you, moving IRL isn't all it's cracked up to be.

The worst thing, and I truly appreciate you're fed up with snow, especially this year, is people.
You don't have your PEOPLE. You don't have that friend walk up to your car, push you out of the way to take care of the child who just barfed on herself. (see, I HAVE been reading!)
You don't have your mom within a stone's throw.
Your kids need a new Ped and you have to find a new grocery store.
People. In the coldest of winters (and Spring and Fall) your people are there to warm you.

From the military wife who has missed her people with every move.

I was a little freaked at first when I saw you were moving. I sorta like thinking that you're somewhere floating around in a county near me... glad it's just a fancy domain type move!

Glad your talk went well, Dawn, but it was your fault that I wasn't there. My husband went into school (he's a math teacher) and didn't get home until about 20 minutes before I had to take Mister Man to a playdate, so I couldn't go running until after dinner. So I went running and wouldn't have made it to Schaumburg by 7:30 as it was already 7:20. So I took a bath instead. Hopefully next time! Do you have any more scheduled (cuz, ya know, I'm a fan too ... but obviously not a dedicated enough one!).

Congrats on the move, Dawn.
What amazes me is --- the number of people in a week that STiLL say they are your fans and this is the FIRST TIME they're commenting.

I know just around the corner is 3 million hits to your blog (it is hits, right?). But, how many people are still out there who still have never commented?

You don't have "a fan" miss, you have like a ... what was your word... bazillion?!
God Bless you, Dawn. And thanks for sharing.

Your fan - Karla

Once again, a hilarious post. Thanks for bringing laughter to my corner of the world. It's a good thing that you blog or you woudn't be able to convince the future spouces of your kids that they were so entertaining when they were young. Keep up the good work.

Jen, to say the reason she is tired is because she has too many kids, and not just that, that it's a PROBLEM...?! I was waiting for you to suggest she just get rid of a few of them. You're never tired with your three? It doesn't matter how many you have, everyone is tired for one reason or another, it's so easy to blame kids. Good for you....

My 5 year old nephew lived in a city flat with no garden, so when he went to visit family friends in leafy Surrey he was delighted by their patch. He came rushing in from the garden with a very large very furry caterpillar.

"Mummy, Mummy, LOOK. Can I keep it? I've always wanted a wild animal."

Love you, Dawn. Take a few days rest - you're precious.

Great Post, Dawn!! Being a fellow Illinoisan, I am truly sick of the cold and snow, but Spring is right around the corner. What is the saying...If you don't like the weather in Illinois, wait 20 minutes!

We live in the country so animals are around an awful lot. Since my husband and I are both Zoology grads they don't bother us a bit. Having said that, the other day my kids found a baby opposum in the front yard. They thought it was really cute and came running into the house exclaiming their wonderful find. In the midst of their excitement, my oldest mentioned how cute it was that it already new how to "play opposum". Get where I am going with this??? All the mommy alerts went off. I went to see this wonderful little animal that was "playing opposum". It wasn't "playing opposum", IT WAS DEAD!!!!!!! I immediately made them all go wash their hands, placed the animal in the back of my husband's truck for immediate burial. OK, so the hubby isn't so quick with the burial and the kids found it again. This time they wanted it to live in the flower pot in front of the house. After coming back from a short excursion, my oldest freaked out and realized the opposum was gone. She thought someone came to the house and stole it. After an emotional 30 minutes the opposum was found. Of course, half eaten by the outside cat. Oh well, this time the hubby was a little faster on the burial process.

Thanks for the daily laughs!!

Aha. Yeah, remind me to tell you about the time my 2nd oldest (when he was 3)caught a chipmunk by the tail at the zoo.
and, of course, I couldn't help but put all of the blame on his father, asking him "WHY DID YOU LET HIM PICK UP A CHIPMUNK!" to which he replied "HOw was I supposed to know that he'd actually be able to catch it?"

And Yay for you having your own domain! Awesome!
