Dawn's World News Tonight Appearance

I started to write a post about my trip to the grocery store today, but after the first thousand words, I realized that my trip was really book material. Sheesh - at this rate, I'll have an entire chapter of shopping adventures! I'll just let you know that it involved an evil bank that takes over a week to clear checks that you deposit, yet checks you write, get put through instantaneously. It also involved a rendition of Funiculi Funicula with ah, new and improved lyrics, and an incident with crackers.

And for a few people who have been asking me for this, here's my World News Tonight appearance. Thank you so much Kelli, for getting this on here! You're AWESOME!!!

Dawn-

Love the footage! Like I have said before, you make me feel so "normal" and that I am NOT the ONLY one going through all these Mommy trials and adventures.

I do have a question. Do you feel overwhelmed by all this attention you are receiving? Do you feel "invaded" at times by all these people hounding you for writing a book, sitcom writing, etc.? Just wondering how you balance it all out and still feel sane.

Take care!

Yay! It was great to see that news spot Dawn. I'm really pleased for you that things are going so well. I'm looking forward to your book as well.

Time to get little Hamish dressed and feed him his breakfast. Got to go...

Very Cool!!!!! Im spewing that I couldnt hear about the shopping trip though lol

It seems half my blog is related to grocery shopping, and the other half related to food itself. My blog is not a specialty blog about food, so it worries me how much I write about getting it and eating it. I need help.

You've had great success with your grocery shopping stories, so I'm sure that'll be a laugh-out-loud chapter for your book!

Hmm... "Around the world", that's right. I like your blog, although I'm German. Go on writing, Your Blog is great :D

moms were portrayed so wonderfuly in this segment!! I agreed with it all and got a tear in my eye. So nice as a mom to get kudos.
Who would have thought all this would have come from pokemon

That was great! It's nice to get to have a voice behind the words...we don't watch TV, so I would have never gotten the chance to see your interview. It's nice to know there are other "real" moms out there (without perfectly coiffed hair and a spotless house...) Of course, you looked great and your house was fine...but I think you know what I mean. We can't all be Victoria Beckham...

I can't WAIT for your book!! I don't get much time to read, but I will make a special effort to when your book comes out. My 2 year old & 9 month old might just get to hear excerpts from your book at bedtime, instead of "So Many Bunnies" or "Pooh's Garden." Wait, that might give them ideas of things to do to me (or each other, or their siblings...) Maybe Daddy will have to start reading their bedtime stories once your book comes out. LOL!

Since I never get TV time (and that's a whole story in itself) I appreciate that you posted this clip. I've been reading about how your family is "real" but seeing your kids act like mine is refreshing. For me, at least.

WOW. WOW. WOW!!!

Very very cool! Nice job and YES I am all for the TV show! Good luck - and hey, tell them that you don't need a WRITER for it!

Congrats!

Totally awesome!!

Okay, aside from feeling a tad bit jealous that you are pulling in $4000 a month just from ads, I am wowed at your level of energy. I have half the children you do and a quarter of your energy!!

Keep going!

How exciting!! I think the story was done wonderfully.

Hi Dawn, I loved your interview. You did not look as bad as you said you did. I was wondering how many vacumes you go through? Or if by chance you have any pets? Other then squirells and critters. A dog makes a great vacume! Kristine in Michigan

I thought this was great, Dawn. You come across as such a warm person. You also come across as someone who is totally unflappable, even though that's hard to pull off with little ones running around.

Good job!

Do I really get to be first? Thank you for posting the video. It took me long enough to find it on the ABC site.

I find the comment made about moms turning to other mom before "experts" enlightening. I remember the experts didn't give me a whole lot of good advise when my son was younger.

Call it the mom's revolution. ;)

Have fun!

finally I have been waiting so long to see that. I visit yours and Trish's blog just about every day. I only get to read it during the work week since I don't have the net at home. Dial up is way too slow when you are used to DSL at work. Any how both of you have inspired me to make my own blog and now i am hooked. I love to read details of others lives and try to apply them to my own. Only if the are healthy of course. Keep up the great job and by the way I also stop in on Mama Likes too. your internet admirer!

Wow Dawn, I knew you were famous for the Pokemon thing but I had no idea you were on the news. Very cool!

Anonymous said...

This part cracked me up, said by the reporter...something like, "Moms today are turning to other moms for advice rather than the experts."
Ha! "the experts"....
How can they not get it?

Janet said...

I know that bank. Several versions actually. That's one of the (few) advantages of small town life - we just call Barb and everything gets fixed. We'll be doing adventures in shopping this afternoon as well, in (gasp) the Christmas section. Could be a costly venture, because I'm as bad as, if not worse than, the kids.

Oh Dawn, what a fabulous segment! Congrats :)

Wow, a sitcom?! That's amazing. Congratulations on all of your success & upcoming ventures brought to you through the blogging world. $4000 in ad payoffs? I need to start looking into that oh and get a larger reader base. ;)

Way cool to finally see the segment, Dawn! And yes, the pudding for breakfast was entertaining knowing that there WAS a context that wasn't shared with the general audience.

FYI, with regards to your posts that you are holding back for your book... is this something that your editor is requiring (anything for the book shouldn't be on your site)? If not, please consider putting some of them on your blog, even if in condensed form and not all of them. I miss hearing some of the hi-jinx, and I can promise you that it won't keep me from reading your book!

congratulations on all of your success! we had 6 kids in our family growing up and i have no idea how my mom did it, especially without blogs to help her laugh about it all!

Dawn,

I have been reading both your blogs for quite a while now and I LOVED the tv spot. It really summed up what I think we have all been feeling. Reading blogs and "talking" to other moms really does make the day at home a whole lot better.

Thanks so much for the smiles that you so generously give out!!!

Great news story :) I'll definitely be getting your book when it comes out

I have been reading your blog because I got the Pokemon listing on eBay. It is great I decided to try my own blog, I guess I will see how it goes.
You still crack me up even though I only have 2 kids (both boys 9 and 3) I can totally relate. I have come with a few things I didn't need also. I have learned to go shopping on my DH day off. I get the shopping done and some alone time, while he gets to bond (or walk around and clean up messes). Keep up the posting it is great.

Thanks for sharing, that was fun to watch!!!

I really enjoyed the news blurb - I never get to watch the news anymore (or the "mews," as my 2 1/2 year old calls it), so was unable to watch it when it first appeared. Thanks for making even the most mundane of household duties humerous. I try to remember your adventures as I try to find the humor in my situations! LOL

Anonymous said...

Fantastic! I'm so glad I finally had a chance to see this!

You were PERFECT...just like I imagined your household, as crazy as mine...thanks for posting

So if you are saving all the good stuff for the book what are we supposed to read about now? I can't wait for some book! My 4 year old son learns his sense of immediate gratification from me!

Dawn,
Loved the video. I'd also like to give you a tip we've used at our bank. Now granted it is a credit union so it is a little more easy to work with. We (my hubby) literally talked to the manager and complained. He refused to back down when we all know good and well that in today's world they can clear a check for deposit the same day or at the latest the next day. If they don't put the $ in our account then we assume it is b/c they are holding it to get their own interest. Ridiculous. You should mention the $$$ you could be rolling in soon from book and or TV deal and would they prefer you take your business elsewhere? For us, there's a note on our account that they deposit immediately. Good work hubby!

Dawn: re the ABC show, I think that you did GREAT, for all your worrying. I also think that more Moms should be like you--making sacrifices every day to invest in the 7 things in your home that are eternal. You go, girl! Thanks for making me laugh!! ; ) God Bless!

It still blows my mind that you get so many hits.

You write funny stuff. I hope your book sells like crazy.

Thanks for posting the video. I never watch TV, so I was hoping you'd put it on here. :)

I'm curious about your answer to the question about being overwhelmed by all the attention you and your family have received lately.

Anonymous said...

Just a thought...
People read your blog for the long stories about your hectic life. If you discontinue sharing such stories, fewer people will read your blog, and thus, fewer people will purchase your book.

Unknown said...

Thanks for posting the news footage, I never could find it on ABC's page.

And I am in agreement with you on the check clearing crap. Of course today my problem was not having the checkbook, and not having my debit card. AHHH Still can't find the debit card.

Thank you for posting the interview. I thought I had missed it. I have to admit I did knowingly giggle about the chocolate pudding. Thank you for making me smile after a long day at work and while I am on the second shift at home with the kids!

Ok, seriously, they said that we are turning AWAY from experts? Um, what else is a woman who is raising 6 children? Does that make me with (only) 3 an ametuer? Really, my pediatrician asked if I had ever heard of you! I explained that I would be happy to pay my copay to you if you can tell me how to get my son to quit coughing all night long.

Dawn,
I have to tell you a little secret, you are the opposite of birth control for my plans. I see how well you write and how graciously you handle a big family and it makes me believe that I can do the same, in a couple of years, once I completely lose my mind.

houseofdanes said...

Dawn, it's been awhile since I was able to take a look at your blog. I think I'm caught up now. I loved your interview and you are exactly what I imagined but your voice it different than what I thought. Isn't it something how we get images in our mind and then get to see what it really is... great job and I look forward to your book.
Not sure if you read my blog but our Great Dane finally had her puppies on Veterans Day.... NINE of them... I helped birth 7 of them... it's amazing but it's so much like when we had our babies... I felt like a regular puppy midwife.
