60 Things

I'm busy working on revising my book these days. I've written a million words today and I just can't think of anything else to say so I'm dragging out this questionnaire that my friend Debra sent me recently. If you're a blogger and can't think of anything to write, feel free to copy these questions and answer them on your blog. (It's always nice to have a night off from thinking.)

Ooooo...I want to borrow this for my blog:)

You had pyloricstenosis?? I guess you are younger than me but still, I am kind of surprised they knew what it was back then. How long did it take them to diagnose it?? I have a friend whose daughter was born with it and it took the dorks over three weeks to believe my friend that was really what it was. She diagnosed her daughter herself (with my help:) Teehee) and they kept telling she was "just spitting up like all babies". It was SO HORRIBLE to watch the poor child suffer.

Anyway, this was a fun read, as always!

Are you kidding me? You were able to answer all those without thinking? I hurt my brain on the first one! (Thinking, "Back seat? The one directly behind the driver? Or the one all the way in the back? Good lord, I haven't climbed back there since the fam came back from their Thanksgiving exile -- er, trip! I wonder if that's where that haunting smell is coming from. Or -- wait, this couldn't be asking about all four rows of back seats, could it?")

Thanks for the invite to take the night off from thinking, Dawn. Yeah, thanks a lot.

LOL, love the list and your replies -- but what embarrasing topics were raised in questions 21 - 23 ???

Will take the list and use for a scrapbook challenge to write 500 + words on a page and no photos.... Thanks to you and your friend :)

Dawn,

I just can't imagine how you do all that you do, and still have such an incredible sense of humor. I guess that's what gets us all through each day, right? You're awesome!

Have a good trip!

Dawn, i read you blog everyday as most people in the world do. and i just read your question number 60 about scars and i thought i was like the ONLY GIRL who had pyloricstenosis as a baby. the doctors say that they usually only find it in first born males, well i figured i was just special because after having 2 daughters i know i'm DEFINATELY a female. anyways, i've lived with that horizontal 3 inch scar on my stomach until i was about 22 and i got a tummy tuck to remove extra skin from loosing weight from my gastric bypass.

did you know that now a days they got through the belly button and there is basically no scar left. my friends son had this surgery about a year ago. i had my surgery when i was 16 days old in 1981.

anyways, i guess it's a small world.

have a great day,
Frances in Jacksonville, FL

Hope you find the glasses. Did you look in the back seat? ;)

If her bed is against a wall, try looking between the wall and the mattress. Not that I'd know from personal experience or anything.

Anonymous said...

So what is pyloricstenosis? WebMd didn't know.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, my husband always says I drive a "rolling trash can" - my back seat looks a lot like yours. Probably smells the same, too. HIS car is pristine, however - we took it on a trip (from OH) to Hilton Head last summer and he wouldn't even let us eat in it!

Your blog has become daily humor therapy for me! Just wondering - do you receive more or less e-mail now then you did during the Pokemon auction?

Thanks for the daily laughs!

I just finished reading your "60 Things About Me" list, and I just wanted to say you are the only person I have ever "known" who had Pyloric Stenosis besides my son! Interesting...

Thanks for making me LOL! It helps with the stress of the day.

Due to lack of material, I am borrowing this. It'll probalby take me a few days to complete it though - LOL! I'll link to you when I do, of course.

What is it with kids and glasses?!?!? (Is it illegal to staple them to their heads?) I'm gonna make our 13 yo (who has been informed that he will be replacing the glasses he lost with his own money this weekend) wear dorky glasses straps to keep his on his head. He can have an array of colors for all I care, as long as he doesn't lose them again!

Love the blog, Dawn!! My DD was born with pyloricstenosis back in 2001. It took the military doctors a week to figure out what was wrong with her! What a week that was! Once again, just want to say that I love the blog and have never "met" any one else that has had pyloricstenosis.

You have a fantastic sense of humor--thanks! :)

It's so strange to hear you talk about the weather there in comparison to the bizzare weather where I live. We're in Castaic, CA and we've been wearing shorts and t-shirts since last Thursday. It had been in the 40's & 50's (warm to you I'm sure but cold to us)and then all of a sudden it went up to 77 degrees for almost a week now. My kids so wanted to go to the snow and then boom it gets hot out. That's CA for you; crazy weather but warm is nice. During the summer, not so much. Then we're stuck inside with 112 outside.

Love your blog & read it daily.

YOU ARE SOOOOOOOO ME!!!
Supposed to be writing a book and you are fielding silly questions...but from an artist's perspective (or just someone rationalizing wasted time) a random exercise such as this could be inspiring and uncover something you should write in your book!
:)
Maybe?

Glasses lost! I had this problem after Thanksgiving and you won't believe where I found them. . . .drumroll. . . .They had fallen in between the seats in the back of the van and when I went to take the seats out to go pick up a table that's when I found them THANKS BE TO GOD! I wasn't ready to spend another $200 for my irresponsbile 8-year-old!

In regards to Lexi's glasses, I just had to share... too bad it's not summer or they might be here too. My daughter was 3 at the time and just got her glasses - first pair. Couldn't find them - searched the house high and low - tore it apart! Finally got it out of her and she took me outside to a spot in the grass. All I could do was close my eyes and I shook my head - my husband mowed the lawn last night. Yep, you guessed it. There they were - an arm here, lens here, part of the frame over there. We look back now and just laugh. Good luck! Maybe you should look out in the snow!

We had the glasses search just the other morning .... they were taken off when my daughter was getting dressed and she put them in the dresser drawer, an closed it ..... of course she could not remember where she had put them, so we tore the room apart - it was actually clean the moments before the search, so that why it was soooo baffling to not be able to find them right away in a room that was actually clean!

I'm glad the worst thing you say is "crap." You could be like Frank in Raymond and say "Holy crap" if things get really bad.

You are pretty funny. Only five flags at six flags, huh?

Thanks for the peek into your amazing life.

okay, so aquamarine *reminds me of a movie my daughter watched on Disney...I think* is your birthstone...which means March...when is your birthday and what do you want? :o)

For eye glasses, I gotta tell ya, http://zennioptical.com is awesome. Prescription glasses for only $19 just can't be beat. I currently own 5 sets from there, different styles, different shades, and have been very pleased with them. My wife ordered a pair. She has a very strong prescription and said they work fine and likes the way they look. They're not $200 designer frames, but all mine are good quality. I've been using a pair I bought from there for 4 years and they are still great. You just need to match up the prescription and pick a frame with the correct dimensions. Maybe the eye doc can help with the numbers (unless they have vested interest in selling you the $150 pair) Hmmm. I sound like a salesmen for Zenni Optical. But it is a good deal and perhaps might save some funds or at least have some decent extras. Now let me tell you how much money I've saved with the Robocut haircutting system... ;-)

My 8-week old daughter had surgery for Pyloric Stenosis when she was 5 weeks old. Funny to read how many other females here had it, too! Oh, and they DID go in through her belly button.

Alot of people outside of Chicago don't know who Bozo is. Are you kidding me?

WHat do you mean the last time you went running was in high school? You just ran a couple days ago!

And yes, I do consider that running because I do the same thing and then I MUST be running. Otherwise I'll have to completely rethink my whole excersise routine.

I had pyloricstenosis, too! Everyone is always so interested in the scar, too, for some odd reason. I also think that Will Ferrel had it, too, haha. He appears to have the same scar.

Not sure if you really wanted to hear how many other people had or know people who had pyloricstenosis but my son had it too! :) Thanks for the questionnaire! I'll have to fill it out for myself when I get a chance! Have a good/safe trip this weekend!

I've been a faithful blog follower for a while now and haven't posted until today. Here's a shout out to all the pyloricstenosis survivors. My husband had it too and barely survived. But sadly his cousin lost a baby too it just two years ago. I find it incredible to believe that some doctors STILL can't properly diagnose it.

Love your blog babe.

Sorry about your glasses woes. All four of us were early glasses wearers. It got much better when we got to JH and could wear contacts. For some reason, we took much better care of those. Anyway, until then, my mom had us convinced that she would make us wear "old lady" around-the-neck glasses holders if we lost them or damaged them by being irresponsible. I guess we believed her because she occasionally followed through on her threats...like making one of my brothers sit down for a whole week for missing the toilet...maybe you could try that threat on your boys? Hope it works. It didn't on my DH. :)

Also, you and the other commenters are the only girls I've heard of with pyloric stenosis. I'm 36 weeks along with boy #1 in our family and dreading what the outcome could be since all the other firstborn boys on my side have had it. Yeah, and depending on size, they can do it laparoscopically nowadays. That's at least some relief. Did they make your incision off to the side or straight across the middle? I've seen both kinds...

Heather said...

First time posting a comment here! Just wanted to say my daughter (now 8) had pyloric stenosis as a baby & surgery to correct it. Did you know it is rare in girls?? Normally happens in first born males. Anyway, maybe one for your "Sunday Shout out" Did any of your kids have pyloric stenosis? it is genetic. Love your Blog, try to read it every day!
