Anyway, Mimi, Michelle and I were seated toward the top and off to the left in the "dork section". LOL! I haven't watched a tape of the show, but from what I heard from friends, they didn't show us in the audience. Oh well. It was pretty darn fun anyway!
None of us are big Mariah Carey fans, but we enjoyed seeing her and listening to her sing. Get this - (if you missed the show) Oprah showed a tape of Mariah's home where she showed off part of her 3000 square foot closet! That's right - her CLOSET is three times the size of my HOUSE! Can you imagine? I think Mariah now weighs 57 pounds and wears size 6X. Oh and she had some guy (who would've annoyed the snot out of me) who came out and combed her hair like every commercial break.
Oprah was sick and sounded like she felt kinda crappy. Despite that, she was still entertaining and made jokes and spoke with the audience on commercial breaks. When the show was over, she took the time to thank the audience and she told us how much she appreciated the fans who spent months trying to get tickets and who stood in line all morning. As she walked out, Mimi leaned over the side of the stairs and Oprah shook her hand! Michelle told Mimi that she couldn't ever wash her hand. Mimi, knowing that Oprah had a cold, ran to wash her hands right away! LOL!
Oooo, and we got a big bottle of Mariah's perfume "M" too! Thank you SO much Kendra! What a wonderful experience that we'll never forget. We're so thankful to have had the chance to meet each other in such a fun way!
The lyrics to Mariah's song go... "This is for my peoples who just lost somebody. Your best friend, your baby, your man or your lady..." Michelle and I kept looking at Mimi, wondering if she was going to cry. Oprah had boxes of tissues under the chairs, but we choked back tears and didn't need them. We all had a great time!
Harry Carey's - Sorry Michelle, but I just have to tell everyone how you thought that was DREW Carey. Hee hee
The three of us after our day of fun!
Umm yeah, well, yes, I'm hugging a yellow Lego-man with a chicken on his head. I'm not sure why, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.
He was a pretty cute Lego guy...
I took the girls out for REAL pizza!
Mmmmmm!
Yummy!
OK, we're not shoe people. Mimi was wearing her Crocs, Michelle was wearing her awesome bargain shoes, and I don't even like to wear shoes at all. Yet here we were, looking at all these fancy schmancy shoes. We'd break our necks if we tried to walk in them. And get this - they were like $700+!
Looks like my kids scribbled on these.
$800 for shoes with a heel that looks like a teacup
$1400 for these babies!
We had to drag Mimi away from the shoes! LOL! Actually, we all walked away pretty quickly after salespeople started giving us strange looks. Apparently shoppers don't often walk around taking pictures of their shoes.
Cute look, Michelle! At least she picked the "right" ones: the Cubs ones.
Chicago
Mimi came back to my house for a little while and hung out and played with my little goofballs.
Balloons for everyone!
:)
It's so nice to be home. I missed my kiddos.
P.S. Michelle, I hope your train doesn't tip over. Next time - FLY! ;)
Dawn - that is so awesome that you were able to work it out that all of you got together. It sounds like we were in the same area for Oprah but weird that our show won't air until Wednesday and we were there last Thursday! We had a great time and Maria was much prettier and nicer in person that I ever could have imagined.
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to see Mimi having a good time and smiling! I'm sure with the 3 of you it was a wonderful time for all of you!!
I can't wait to see the cover for the book. I pre-ordered it on Amazon!
Take care!
Tom
Glad that you had some fun!
ReplyDeleteDawn,
ReplyDeleteI am delighted to see your blog is quirky and excellent.
I know that your children are very young but could you perhaps report on recent teen phenomenon called "drive-fiving"?
It apparently is catching on across nation; students are attempting to drive toward each other at high speeds and high-five each other from moving vehicles. It is frankly terrifying, and I would like to hear voice of parent on situation.
Real pizza? You can't eat it with a knife and fork!
ReplyDeleteDawn: Glad you had an awesome time! You deserve it! :) Can't wait to see the cover of your book this week! So glad you got to meet Mimi. Isn't she just a doll? Blessings!
ReplyDeleteOPRAH! Awesome day :)
ReplyDeleteHi Dawn,
ReplyDeleteI have a picture of me sitting by the lego guy! So funny.
I love that lego guy! My friends and I took pictures with him a couple years ago.
ReplyDeleteSara (Michigan)
So peased you had a great time. One of my internet USA fiends watched Oprah and said she didn't see you or Mimi ( I was the one who gave her links to your blog and Mimi's carepage we all cried when Julian earned his angel wings)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the time you are on Oprah up on the couch sitting beside her being interviewed. I believe it WILL happen
Mmm....Pizzeria Uno's. YUMMY. Question - who eats pizza with a fork? (Other than Mimi & Michelle?) LOL
ReplyDeleteI watched the show and watched for you, too. Didn't see you. As much stuff as the shows keep giving away ("...and by the way, everyone in the audience is getting one to bring home!!!"), I thought they would give you Mariah's cd. Not sure if I'd want it, either. Not a big fan, but what the heck. I'd have fun at a show like that, too.
ReplyDeleteWith the shoe pics, I would like to see the white ones (second shelf from the top, third shoe over)in about an 8 or 8 1/2...
Sounds like a great time! I love shoes but must admit all of mine put together aren't worth $800. I'm more of a Payless girl.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Sounds like a great time! The pictures were great too! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Dawn, Wow it looks and sounds like you had so much fun. I taped the show and would pause to look for you but did'nt see ya. I was wondering if there was a hair person that fussed on Oprah during commercials? Also what did Mimi think of Chicago? Welcome home, Kristine in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun!!!! Thanks for telling us all about it!!
ReplyDeleteSue
So glad to see you took the girls for "real" pizza at Uno's! As a Chicagoan transplanted to Texas for 33 years now, I can testify that Texans don't do pizza right. They do lots of other things right, but not pizza. ::choking back sob::
ReplyDeleteI was watching Oprah yesterday and thought of you while I was watching. It sounds like you had a wonderful time - so happy for you. They say that the camera adds 10 pounds, do you think that is true?
ReplyDeleteI so thought that was Drew Carey too! hehe...
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice trip!
I did see about 5 minutes of that Oprah show... perhaps because I'm 7 1/2 months pregnant... I thought... 'who cares how skinny Mariah is and how she did it... hmmm... I wonder what there is in the fridge to eat?' Surely just a little envious... obviously. She looked great... as did you all in your photos! =)
I always get so homesick for Chicago when you post pictures from downtown! Now I don't only miss Chicago but I am reminded AGAIN, how wonderful the pizza is! My family and I are actually comeing to Chicago this summer, Giordano's here I come! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks again for sharing!
I didn't catch it... I'm an Ellen fan. But what fun to be there. I thot it was Drew Carey too, until the "Holy Cow".
ReplyDeleteI think I'll scribble on the insoles of my next pair of sandals. But how am I ever going to scribble in such a symmetrical fashion? If not for the symmetry, I really would have thought they were done with a sharpie.
ReplyDeleteI watched the Oprah show with my daughter and hoped to get a glance at ya'll but alas didnt see you.
ReplyDeleteLooks like ya'll had a great time. I'm so happy you got to meet in person.
I LOVE Pizzeria UNO. We used to have one down here in Arlington Texas when I was growing up but it didn't last long. Guess Texans just didn't care for it, but we were faithful to the end. I was especially partial to their Tortellini and toasted ravioli, YUM!!
Have a great day Dawn
Sounds like you ladies had a great time. I'd rather see the 3 of you as guests than Mariah Carey anyday!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your recap and your many glimpses into your world (which at times is very much like my own world).
You rock! (But you already know that, right?)
Sounds like a great time was had by all!! I watched the show and didn't see you guys either. I suppose you were in the equivalent to Oprah's "nose bleed" section??
ReplyDeleteREAL pizza is made by Italians in NY. :-) (Although I agree UNO's is good food, it's just not really pizza.)
ReplyDeleteChicago is such a fun city. And Oprah tickets too? Lucky girl.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your day trip into the city! It's a fun place, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI have been away for awhie because Mom is sick and had to get her set up with Hospice, and then popped in here and my heart jumped a beat...only to be disappointed. I thought YOU were going to be on Oprah, not in the audience but as the GUEST!!! I am sure that will happen in time...
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the book, how do I get an autographed copy?
It looks like an awesome time was had by all!!
ReplyDeleteDawn, I tried so hard to watch Oprah yesterday, but, Mariah Carey is definitley not one of my favorite entertainers to watch. She comes off as superficial, and egotistical. And, I had to laugh, when you mentioned she weighs 57 pounds and wears a 6x! I have to say, 20 of those 57 pounds are strapped onto her chest! And, who the heck is she to give out dieting advice. I had to turn if off after that, (and run to the toilet to lose my lunch j/k), but, I couldn't take it anymore, although I really wanted to see if I could find you and the girls in the audience! So, how did you manage to sit through the Queen of Ego's interview? Did you hold your laughter in? I mean, was she for real? I would have been kicked out of the audience. I feel badly that you didn't have eye candy to look at, like, George Clooney, or Matthew McConeghy (sp)...you had to see, well, MC. Bummer! But, all in all, I guess I would have not cared who was there, as I got to see Oprah, and go to her studio! So, that is very cool!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that you will be a guest on Oprah one of these days, Dawn!
ReplyDeleteLooks like y'all had a ball together. Bummer Oprah wasn't giving out cars or something that day, though!
ReplyDeleteThe one and only time we were ever in Chicago, we had Connie's pizza. My mouth still waters at the thought of that pizza.
I love your book cover Dawn. I watched Oprah yesterday and thought to myself even if I did see you I'd probably not realize it, then thought that I should have posted and asked what you'd be wearing so I'd have at least an Idea of who to look for lol. Glad you all had a good time.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading your blog. It gives me a laugh and some days tears(Only for the sad things you post though). I am glad that you share your blog I appreciate it.
Everything is fine with this post, except that you must have been confused about what city you were in. "Real" pizza is found in New York :)
ReplyDeleteFunny that you should talk about her closet. I thought when I heard that...I wonder what Dawn thinks of that since Mariah's closet is bigger than her house. Bigger than my house too. Wonder if she gets lost in there? :)
ReplyDeleteMariah's lingerie closet??? Is she KIDDING me??? My "lingerie" consists of some old sweatpants (complete with holes) and a paint-smeared Flyers sweatshirt. Certainly don't need an entire closet for that. Now, that's glamour! haha Don't get jealous, girls!!!!
ReplyDeleteWas hoping to see you in the audience, Dawn. That's okay, I'll just wait until you're a guest on the show!
Donna in PA :)
Do they even allow the shoppers to touch shoes that cost so much? LOL I would be afraid to drop it or something.
ReplyDeleteOh, I think I would have died and gone to heaven. I LOVE Mariah. Actually, I loved Mariah before she turned slutty. I mean, she dresses slutty, that is. I don't know if she's truly slutty. lol
Totally looks like Drew Carey to me!
ReplyDelete"I'd rather see the 3 of you as guests than Mariah Carey anyday!"
ReplyDeleteI second that!
Dawn,
ReplyDeleteSo glad ya had a good time! I would love to see Oprah one day. I am a big shoe person, so I'd be walking around that store with drool hanging out of my mouth!
Oh and you mean Pizza Hut isn't real pizza?! LMAO
Your friends eat pizza with a fork? What classy friends!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great time!
Silly me, I thought you were going to be a guest on Oprah! I even turned on Oprah to see you...when I saw Mariah Carey I turned it off...not that I have anything against Mariah, I was just hoping to see you. When IS that going to happen?
ReplyDeleteOK, although $700 is outrageous for shoes, I adore those teacup shoes! Any idea what brand they were or what store you saw them in? Maybe I can find a pair on eBay . . .
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Hubby went in all of the fancy stores with me in NYC and humored me by looking at all of the expensive shoes. He even went as far as to tell me I could get some! I was smart and realized that he had no clue what we was agreeing to and informed him of a pair of AWESOME sandals at the Fendi store since they were.. you know.. on clearance. He hopped right over to the dude and asked him how much they'd be after the discount and about crapped himself when the guy replied with "$205". And there I sat, giggling the entier time.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you had fun!
Dawn,
ReplyDeleteIt just looks like SOOOOO much fun!
I love going "window" shopping with friends! (esp window shopping for stuff I would NEVER buy! LOL)
Debi
My friend just sent me your blog, she said you had gone to see oprah so I had to come check it out. Her and I went a couple of weeks ago. We were there at the show about puppy mills. Not an ultra exciting show, but we saw O in a very sad time in her life. She broke down BAD during the montage of her and her dog sophie and then during commercial. She went into her UGLY cry as she calls it. I felt so bad for her. She was just up ther SOBBING infront of ALL of us. It was really uncomfortable. Of course if someone's voice cracks I cry so thankfully like your show she had tissue under our seats, so we all were making use of those.
ReplyDeleteUnlike you we didn't get a gift. Its funny how EVERYONE that asked me about the show asked if we got something free LOL, I guess people just assume she gives out free stuff all the time! :-)
We had a great time and like you said it was all very orderly!! I can't wait to go back! Glad you had a great time! You can see pics of our trip on my family blog http://ourhoffmannfamily.blogspot.com/
LOL about Mariah weighing 57 pounds. I saw her on Idol last night and couldn't believe how little she is now.
ReplyDeleteSo what does the perfume smell like?
When I first saw the montage of pictures, I thought you were taking them to Harry Caray's, and I was somewhat disappointed. It's not a bad restaurant, but it's not Chicago food really. Uno's though is definitely acceptable. I could really go for a stuffed spinach right about now. And yes, I've already eat dinner.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great time!
I'm with Michelle. Looks just like Drew Carey.
ReplyDeleteHaha. I think that this place is silly. Those shoes look like a hot air balloon. Hahahahahahahaha
