I always feel like it's an act of cruelty when I send my kids to school that first day, weighed down with all their school supplies. Over the years, I've bought many cheap backpacks at the store and I was always afraid they wouldn't be able to handle the weight of those supplies the first day. They generally did hold up that first day, but they rarely had the strength and durability to last throughout the year.
Not only are they super-durable, but they're classic. A couple years ago, I bought Clay a Cars backpack. Not only was it falling apart this year, but Clay had outgrown the Cars theme. Lands' End backpacks (along with their clothes) are timeless.
I've since given up buying those backpacks at my local store. It's not worth the money I save on the initial purchase when I have to replace them every year (or in some cases, less than a year)! These days, I stick with Lands' End backpacks. These things are well-made. They can take the daily abuse of hauling text books to and from school, and being flung to the floor every day after school.
Lands' End offers backpacks in dozens of sizes, styles, and colors to fit your needs. Many styles come with matching lunch bags as well! And, as with all Lands' End products, the backpacks come with Lands' End Guaranteed. Period. promise. Right now, you can get free shipping on your order of $50 or more. Just use promo code FREESHIP and pin 4229.
Lands End is by far the best backpack! I get them at the end of season at a great price, my shipping order from last year:

That's right. $11.99 for the most durable backpack in the biz. The savings leave me more money for strappy sandals and hair dye.
Thanks also for the email. I'm saving it for you to sign at your next Chicago book signing - my closest brush to celebrity ever(outside of meeting President Clinton at an airport in 2011...he was much taller than I thought).
Great recommendation!
I remember having the same Lands End backpack all though high school and college! I still have it, though the initials monogrammed on it are no longer right. I loved that if it gets dirty, you just throw it in the wash with some laundry and it comes out good as new!
ReplyDeleteI recently bought my daughter a pretty pink flowered Land's End backpack and matching lunchbox to take to preschool this year - hopefully it will last all way through elementary school.
I have never shopped Land's End. I'm weird like that I guess.
ReplyDeleteWe ordered one for my oldest child a couple years ago & it still looks brand new. Granted we got to small of a size & she doesn't use it everyday, but it does get used a lot for sleepovers etc. I need to call them because the netting on the side pocket has gotten a hole in it. I wonder if that would fall under the replacement & if they'd let me pay extra & go up to a bigger size?
ReplyDeleteMy big kids are required to have see thru backpacks, which I have a hard time finding them. Otherwise, the backpack has to stay in their locker during the day. The school is so big they carry most of their stuff with them, as they do not have time to go to their lockers between classes.
ReplyDeleteWell poo! Wish I had read this two weeks ago! lol. My daughter wanted an Abercrombie one so, the boy got a cheaper one from a local store.

I agree 100%! After wasting money on other backpacks I purchased a Lands End for my daughter a couple of years ago. She's going into 5th grade and it still looks as good as new. That's 4 years old! Great value for your money and I will never purchase another brand ever again.
ReplyDeleteWe always used L.L. Bean backpacks growing up. They lasted for years, but they were SO expensive. When they finally gave out, my parents bought us Lands' End backpacks, and they worked just as well for a fraction of the price. Didn't hold quite as much, but they were still great.
