Home From Atlanta!

I'm home from Atlanta! On my way to the airport this morning, I stopped to fill my rental car up with gas. I pulled up like I always do, got out of the car, grabbed the pump, and realized the tank wasn't on that side. What the heck? I thought all tanks were on the driver's side! I felt like Clark Griswold!

(This is a long clip - just check out the part at 3 minutes and 10 seconds into it.)
*** Someone just brought to my attention that after the 3 minute, 10 second mark, there's an R-rated portion. I try to keep my blog family friendly and just wanted to give you a head's up.***

And driving in Atlanta is an experience! Every highway is at least 15 lanes across and I swear the roads all go in circles! It's crazy! Even with the GPS, I got turned around a time or two and had to backtrack.

Anyway, I loved Atlanta, but it's nice to be home. Well, it WAS nice until my grandson started screaming. Yep, you read that right. Austin, for part of his Life Skills class, brought home a "Think It Over Baby" today. I'll tell you all about that tomorrow. But now, I'm exhausted and need sleep. I have 15 radio interviews tomorrow starting at the ungodly hour of 6:00AM!

  1. One of the girls on my daughter's high school softball team had a "Think It Over Baby." While she was playing, her mom was "babysitting" in the bleachers. My 6 year-old was fascinated. She rocked it the whole game. Remember bag when that life lesson was a sack of flour or an egg? Technology is great, right? Except when it cries at 3am.

  2. I got my learners permit at around 16-17 years old...shortly after that my mom and I went on a huge trip. we live in alberta canada and we drove from here down through n and s dakota, minneapolis, chicago, down to charlotte, atlanta, mississippi,Lousiana, texas and back up to home(and all the other states in between.30,000 KMS in total)...I did mostly highway driving but when we got to atlanta I just kept driving..I figure if I can drive downtown atlanta in rush hour, I can drive ANYWHERE!!

  3. I would think Austin would be exempt from any "Think It Over Baby" exercises due to the fact that he has 5 younger siblings. Wouldn't you?

  5. on your gas gauge, it will have an arrow pointing left or right, whichever way it is pointing in the side you tank is on! some brilliant person came up with that one!

  6. I agree with you about mornings! If I could sleep until 8:30 am, I'd be a much more patient person.

  7. Atlanta roads are nuts! Yes, you truely were driving in circles - and while on those crazy roads the name changes 3 times! Even when you never got off the same road! Atlanta is fun to visit, but crazy to live there! As for chick-fil-a, I will be at any opening in Chicago the first morning, just as you were with Sonic! They just need to open one here though!

  8. I can relate to your gas tank story, I've had that happen before, and I love those National Lampoon's Vacation movies!!! When I got my first new car in high school I went to fill it up. I found the tank, I just couldn't figure out how to open it! Then, the grandmother of a kid I went to school with pulled up and opened it for me!

  9. My best firends SIL got one of those babies. She brought it to my BF's baby shower, the thing cried the whole time. Finally my mother took the thing from her and shoved it in my diaper bag. The looks of horror my mother got were priceless. She got all mad and handed the thing over muttering its just a doll lol.

  10. There are two versions of the Think It Over Baby - one cries a lot more than the other. Here's hoping you have the quiet one...

  11. Does it actually cry in the middle of the night?

  12. I would rather drive in Atlanta any day as to have to drive in Jacksonville Florida. I lived in Atlanta and although Peachtree Street manages to wind around for miles and you end up in the same spot....it's relatively easy to get around in...but Jax FL? Oh my stars!

  13. Just a little FYI .. the gas tank is always on the opposite side of your gas gauge on your dashboard...if its to the right of the steering wheel your gas tank will be on the left...and vice versa....who the heck came up with that one????

  15. SSO Q: you said that your dog passed away at the last sound out, well i read your book and on the:we arent having chicken! part you said that brooklin tossed food to the dog,did you get a new one or something? And you also said it when you talked about clay having all those clothing changes on the day of Lexi's birthday, and it said he poured dog food down his shirt. I was just wondering

  16. In your book on the thing about all those clothing changes with clay, you said he grabbed Lexi's cake for the first change, then the second because Lexi poured wet sand down his shirt, I'm guessing thats cause she was mad!

  17. I was wondering, have you ever played the online game Runescape? It is seriously addictive and if you could find the time I bet you would like it! I know this is random but me, my 3 kids and my husband ALL love it.

  19. Oh man. I'm hoping Tommy doesn't bring home that Think It Over baby. I hope he just has to take care of an egg or a bag of flour.

I always forget what side of the car my gas tank is on. I've had to turn around before and some guy filling up his truck totally laughed at me.

  24. I have a friend who moved to Atlanta and curses the lack of city planning(street names) all the time!

  25. I absolutely agree about the crazy Atlanta traffic and highways. Lived in Charlotte, NC for 33 years-husband took job in Washington, DC (was like landing on another planet, but did learn how to get around over the next 2+ years). Then we were transferred to Atlanta. Now I know that the move to Washington was to prepare me for the aggressive driving in ATL. After 13 years in NW suburb of Atlanta we have recently moved to rural NC. So funny how I cannot find my way around a country-like setting, but managed pretty well in the bigger cities. The closest Walmart is 10-15 miles away and there isn't even a gas station or quick stop between here and there. Every time I get in the car I turn the wrong way at the chicken coop-and my then 12 year old was the one that had to point it out!

  26. I've heard tales of the Atlanta highways, and I don't want to drive them. Congrats for surviving them! Glad you made it home, but ohhh if only you had been able to be gone while the baby was there ;)

  27. Random info for you! 99% of all cars made now have an indicater IN the car for which side your gas tank is on! Not that it necessarily helps you NOW, but maybe in your future car rental endeavors, if you look at the gas gauge at the picture of the tank, or somewhere intertwined in the gas gauge is a little arrow, it points to the side of the car the tank is on. Or of course, you can keep on griswolding it too :o)
