Anyway, I've had a terrific time here in Georgia! I still can't get over how warm and friendly people are! It's really nice. :) I fly back home in the morning and I'm looking forward to seeing my kiddies. I miss them!
Here are a few pics from my trip...
my cute little rental car (still don't know what it is)
pretty covered bridge at Stone Mountain Park
It was so windy on top of Stone Mountain - you can see the ripples in the puddles
view from mountain
downtown Atlanta in the distance
carving in Stone Mountain
Slaw dogs from The Varsity
COLE SLAW on a HOT DOG!
The fountain in the shape of the Olympic rings downtown Atlanta
me in the green room (which was actually green LOL) at FamilyNet Studios
I've had this song in my head since I landed here in Georgia...
So, naturally I had to go check out Chick*fil*A. I'm in love with their waffles fries! De-lish!
Yay! Thanks for the good review of my state- I love it here! :)
ReplyDeleteYour car looks like a Chevy HHR.
ReplyDeleteLMAO at that song!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have Chick fil A's here in Ny! Now I'm jealous!! Oh and your car is a red one ;) LOL.
Was that the view from the TOP of the "mountain"?! You need to come to VT! Bring the kiddos.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you had a great time in my home state! :) Oh..and I LOVE Chick-fil-a! I always dip my waffle fries in the Polynesian sauce. So yummy! :D
ReplyDeleteChick-fil-A is the best! They have the yummiest chicken nuggets ever!
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny that you mention Chick fil A. I just wrote them earlier today, begging them to open one in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. Naturally, I got an automated response followed by a 'Ha, you wish' type of email from an "Executive". The closest one to Chicago is in Racine, WI and I've made the trip just for Chick fil A (and may go again on Friday to feed my Chick fil A addiction). I may buy the place out and start selling the Chicken n Biscuits in a lemonade-type stand on the side of the road. I can see it now...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, nice pictures! I love Stone Mountain... absolutely gorgeous, isn't it? So glad you had a nice trip. :)
You mean they really do put Cole Slaw on hot dogs at places other than my own kitchen!
ReplyDeleteYes, that's a Chevy HHR. Designed to look like a 1949 suburban.
ReplyDeleteI love your car! That's because I have one like it! :) Yep, it's a Chevy HHR. I love it cuz it looks kinda like an antique car & I love antique cars. The HHR's are modeled after the 1949 Chevy Suburban...
ReplyDeleteO Dawn! You're SUCH a Midwesterner!! Remember I'm from Rockford, IL - but I've been in the South for almost 25 years! Southerners are NICE to EVERYBODY!! Even if they HATE you they will still smile and talk nice to you! If you ask them how they like your haircut they will tell you it's gorgeous - even if it looks like crap! That was one of the hardest things for me to learn but I have to say I've acclimated very well!
ReplyDeleteO - and we put cole slaw ON BBQ sandwiches, too!! Well, they do, I've not acclimated quite that well. Next time you're down here tell somebody you want some BBQ - you'll really be in for a treat! But be prepared, it's nothing like what you get in Winnetka!
That song cracked me up! I love Chick fil A and forget about the Sunday thing all the time! I can't believe you don't have them in Chicago. Is Chick fil A just a southern thing?
ReplyDeleteI love TIm Hawkins songs. thanks for introducing me to a new one ( new to me at least)
ReplyDeleteWhat?! No pics of your hotel room???
ReplyDeleteVaristy Slaw Dog are the Best!!! Did you have a Chilli Slaw Dog? They are my favorite guilty eating treat. Glad you enjoyed Atlanta, we love our city.
ReplyDeleteYep, the car is a Chevrolet HHR, I have one and love it!
ReplyDeleteMMMMM!!! The Varsity!!!
ReplyDeleteTerrye in FL
Hi Dawn!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are getting to enjoy southern hospitality. (Of course the people in Atlanta are nice...I'm surprised that you are surprised...lol!)
I have to say I am totally jealous that you went to the Varsity. It was one of our favorite places to go when I was in college. Please tell me you washed down that delicious hot dog with a Frosted Orange, right?
I hope the book tour is going well, and I am looking forward to getting my copy. Now, if you want treated to some awesome barbecue and some Texas hospitality, plan a trip to Austin and I will be your guide!
Best Wishes...
Oh how I miss Chick*fil*A waffle fries! I haven't had those since I was 10 years old! They are the best fries I've ever had. The car looks like a HHR. It's a great color! Hope everything was a blast!
ReplyDeleteHEYYYYYY..you said you'd photoshop that picture of us. You know, erase the greasiness from my face, apply some decent makeup, do my hair, change my shirt (that was NOT the shirt I intended on wearing when I met Dawn but didn't have time to go home and change and freshen up...thanks for my SON breaking his heel. Geesh..kids **rolling eyes**), etc... LOL Glad you had a great time here and glad your interviews went so well. You really did rock the TV interviews!!! Can't wait to see you again. Wish I could swing a trip to Chicago this summer so I can share the blinged out shot glass with the Friday night gang!! Love ya, Sista! ;)
ReplyDeleteI *told* you Chick-fil-A was awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was cool to see your trip pics. We travel to Georgia every day. The vehicle you rented was a Chevy HHR. Chick-Fil-A is the bomb! We love eating there....and the song is so fitting!!! ha ha I just visited Stone Mountain for the first time this year. It's a cool place.
ReplyDeleteYup the car is an HHR. Ugly sumbitch. But whatevs. LOL
ReplyDeleteIndeed, your car is an HHR (As if to add obscurity to curiosity, HHR stands for "Heritage High Roof." The roof of the Chevrolet HHR two-wheel-drive SUV is high, and its heritage dates to the 1949.) Apparently they are REALLY good on gas, but not overly spacious for a family of 3 kids.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip!
why oh WHY would it occur to someone to put cole slaw on a hot dog??? i though saurkraut was bad!
ReplyDeleteDawn,
ReplyDeleteI hope you made it to a Truett's Grill--they are sit-down Chick fil-A restaurants with great atmosphere and a bigger menu. We go almost everytime we travel through Atlanta (how about that scary traffic?)to visit family in AL and TN. ;)
Never heard of Tim Hawkins, but that was really funny. My teenager thought it was hilarious.
ReplyDeletethe car is a chevy HHR kinda cool little car my friend has one ...gets great gas mileage too! Glad you are enjoying Ga we are a great bunch here in the south!
ReplyDeleteOk you were so close to Tn why couldn't you come up here?? Anyway the car is a Chevy HHR we had one as a rental when we went on vacation.Hope you come to Tn soon i know you would love love love dollywood!
ReplyDeleteThose slaw dogs look SOOOO GOOD! I didn't realize it was a southern thing- we put slaw on our hamburgers too! And you have never had Chick-fil-A either! Have a safe and uneventful trip home!
ReplyDeleteI've only been in the airport in Atlanta as it was a stopover. Your pictures make me want to actually see the city!
ReplyDeleteYes! Cole Slaw on hot dogs. Only, I think you're s'posed to spell them "dawgs" when you put the slaw on 'em. What's even better is chili - slaw dawgs, some of the the messiest best eatin' in the south! I can't get my mouth around them so I cheat and eat what I can, then scoop up the rest with a fork. Just don't let anyone see you do that or they'll call you a danged Yankee. I've been told that's what proves I merely live in the south but wasn't born southern. Alas, I do my best. "Snap!" (that was the sound of the fan being opened so I could flutter my eyelids and do the Scarlet bit. ;}
ReplyDeleteI don't even eat chicken, but I go to Chick fil a all the time for the waffle fries and lemonaide. Cookies and cream milkshakes hmmmm probably have about a thousand calories in them but yummy!
ReplyDeleteI told you Chick-fil-a was great! Can you bring some home for me??
ReplyDeletewas cole slaw on a hot dog tasty? i was thinking maybe with some melted cheese on top it would be tasty :) horribly bad for you, but tasty none the less.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I've never seen that particular Tim Hawkins one before.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the fuss is about Chick-fil-a. I ate there once and it was icky gross.
My son Ben is making me write "No, it's amazing. Have you ever actually had Polynesian sauce with their chicken sandwich and also their waffle fries with tartar sauce or Polynesian sauce. It's amazing. I don't know what my Mom's problem is. Please excuse her lack of taste. Or brain. Or liver. Or any other organ."
Ok, FINE, I had a salad. And it was gross. I have not had Polynesian chicken.
mmmm....waffle fries......drool.... and they have great Sweet Tea, too.
ReplyDeleteYes - Sweet Tea should be capitalized. It is that important.
That "cute little rental car" looks like the one we got in Milwaukie. 'cept ours was a butt-ugly dark grey and the turn signal drove everyone nuts. Da-Doink! We figured that alone was the reason GM is going broke!
ReplyDeleteBecause of the picture of you slaw dogs. I had to go to our local hot dog joint and get one. Since I am in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia , it was not Varsity but Hot Dog King, but just as good. I love Atlanta too but only to visit.
ReplyDeleteSeiously .. I normally HATE people who post without reading the comments or just reposting for the heck of it ...but i am in such shock ...really chick-fil-a isnt everywhere?? I had no clue!! That was my first job ...at 14! they will hire 14 yr olds with so much red tape Im not sure why my parents let me...oh wait the windshield I broke thats right... can only work so many hours a week, must be after school hours and off by 7 i think it was. My husband worked there too (before he was my hubby but after I quit.) Its like a staple here in SC. BUT i guess its like trying to find sweet tea in Texas ..grrr that drives me crazy!
ReplyDelete@jennhoop
Looks like so much fun! I absolutely need to get the family mobilized on a trip this summer. Our youngest is almost old enough to enjoy a vacation too! It'd be great to travel as a family again!
ReplyDeleteDawn! I'm so glad you got to go to my home town. And OF COURSE you go when I'm out of town and can't meet you and get you to autograph my book! On your next trip you have to see the Aquarium :-)
ReplyDeleteVery fun -- and those onion rings look yummy! But cole slaw? I'm not sure about that one. I've heard great things about Varsity Dogs though....
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great trip and the inteviews went well!
