Picture This

Yes, she looks like an innocent toddler sleeping peacefully; dreaming about coloring books, mac & cheese, and dolls. But don't be fooled. This toddler has ninja-like reflexes. Ever watchful; constantly aware of her siblings' whereabouts; poised for action, Brooklyn sleeps with her eyes open.

Brooklyn helped Savannah make cookies. See how much she helped?

About 5 pounds of flour = help

The blanket I was crocheting. I was going to auction it to raise money for childhood cancer (September is childhood cancer awareness month.)

What the blanket looks like now. I realized I'd made some big mistakes on the first 7 rows. I tried to pull out the stitches from the bottom. It didn't so much work. Oh well, I didn't have anything else to do. Grrr

Tired of waiting for dad to fix stuff around the house, Brooklyn got equipped to do it herself. Think she needs a tool belt?

  6. I love the pictures of Brooklyn. The one with the tools in the diaper is hilarious. Reminds me of my eldest son and all the unique items I would find during diaper changes, as he put everything he could in it. The best was when I found my kitchen sinks plug in the front of the diaper. Interesting to say the least.

  12. Just wanted to say that I sleep with my eyes open too. It caused a lot of confussion at sleep overs and one night when I was being baby sat by a family friend she started screaming because all she could see way the whites of my eye and thought I was dead. I used to take airoplane eye masks to sleep overs so I didn't scare the other kids.

  14. the flour pic and the diaper/tool pic could have easily come from my own house.

My son tucks everything into his diaper, especially his tools :-)

    Cute pics and captions.

  16. hillarious. my youngest does the same thing. Not always with tools though. I often find hotwheels in his diaper when I'm changing him.

  18. Oh, I have probably 10 of those kind of blankets at my house. My husband says I am not allowed to crochet anymore until I actually take lessons so I can finish a project. Love the pictures of Brooklyn! I think she and my little guy must be cut from the same cloth.

  20. The boy sleeps with his eyes open too - you never quite know if he's asleep or away and plotting something.

  21. Its been 6 years since my youngest was in diapers but I stil remember the interesting things I would find in there!

  23. The tool belt diaper is the funniest thing ever!

  24. If you find a tool belt, let me know...I've been looking as my 2 year old son walks around looking like Brooklyn.

  25. From the looks of it, your blanket could still make for a pretty muffler/scarf for the upcoming cold weather!

My husband also sleeps like that with his eyes 'open' sometimes-it took me awhile after we first got married to get used to it!

  26. Very cute. :) My kids love to "help" around the kitchen too. It can be a costly endeavour.

I love the pictue of the diaper tool belt. How fitting that they want to help dad around the house also? :)

  28. I LOVE the tool belt. She has ingenuity.

  29. Great diaper tool belt, and so nice she's not just stuffing toys and candy into the front and back instead. You don't know how lucky you are. Plus, this way if she loosens a pipe or something with those tools, she can just whip off the diaper and plug the leak.

  30. I just can't figure out how your baby blanket turned into a scarf!

    It sure is cute, though!

  31. Two of my daughters slept with their eyes open and it was creepy. My girlfriend started to babysit my daughter at 8 months and it slipped my mind to tell her this little bit of information. She called me at worked because she was freaked out. My now 5 year old began sleeping with her eyes completely closed around age 3 so there is hope!!

  32. My grandma used to say people who sleep with their eyes open are really naughty. It's mainly because I have a cousin who's extremely naughty and he sleeps with his eyes open!!!

  33. This reminds me of my little brother, who used to use his under wear as his holster for his toy guns. And sometimes his pacifiers too.

  34. Ah yes, the "oops, I made a mistake back there unravel". I can't tell you how many times I have undone both knitting and crocheting. My husband thinks I'm too fussy - "you can't tell!"
Well, last night I was working on the baby sweater I'm making as a gift. The front, back, sleeves and neck are done and I was just doing the cuffs, then sew the underarms and I will be finished - Yeah! But what's this? As I finish the one cuff and I go to turn the sweater right side out, I seem to be having trouble telling which is the right side? That doesn't make sense, I haven't had trouble before!? This is when I discover that when I changed wool on the back and added in the extra stitches for the sleeves, I somehow missed one row of the simple 4 row repeat, causing the upper back to be knit "inside out"!!! I mean, come on, it was only 4 rows! How could I miscount? I have 4 fingers on one hand, I wouldn't even need to take off my socks for that one!!!
No way am I undoing this one. It will just have to go out as a one of a kind original.
    sigh

    Brooklyn's "tool belt" is hilarious!

  37. Be glad you don't have to duct tape her diaper to get her to keep it on. My son learned the art of shedding his diaper and indulging in some creatively disgusting "fingerpainting" when he was 9 months old and from then on until he was around 2 and started potty training, I had to put duct tape on his diaper because he couldn't peel it off like he could the diaper's own tape!

  38. My 5 year old sleeps with his eyes open, always has. When he was younger if you walked in front of him his eyes would follow you. Very creepy.

  39. Thats awesome! I can't let my 3yr old see it or else he'll try it!
