A sun visor. Where else would you put it, but on the roof?
The Little Mermaid - I guess she's sunning herself.
A blurry picture of a tortoise trying to flip over so he can crawl off the roof. (No, it's not real.)
Is it more confusing that a doll is on the roof or that the doll has purple hair?
And what roof would be complete without a frisbee?
(Yes, we know we need a new roof. It's on the list!)
So umm how exactly did you get up to the roof to see what was on the roof? I've always assumed that there's nothing on my roof, but maybe there's a whole 'nother world I just don't know about yet!
ReplyDeleteAnd is "the list" one that has everything happen once your book is a best seller or is it the one where things get done when Joe gets to it?

I see that you too are a "Frisbiterian." We believe that when you die your soul gets stuck on the roof of your house.
ReplyDeleteLOL I think it's great that you have such lovely decorations on your roof. :) Just today we discovered a nifty pink cell phone in our garden....
ReplyDelete~Shirley Ann~
Too funny!
ReplyDeleteWhat a way to store stuff though!
ReplyDeleteThat is too GREAT! I may need to do a "What's on Debi's roof?" post! LOVE this! (I am not sure I could top the turtle or the doll with the purple hair. LOL)
ReplyDeleteLOL too funny! My daughter loves to throw balls up on the roof and then hit them after they fall off (like volleyball). Guess our roof is just the right pitch for that.
ReplyDeleteha ha ha! That's pretty funny. We've so far been save from toys up on the roof. I should knock on some wood or something...
ReplyDeleteHi Dawn,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see that my kids aren't the only ones who manage to get whatever is in their hands onto our roof. We have a tree conveniently located near our roof. I think my boys throw things on our roof just so they have an excuse to do some roof stomping! Thank goodness it isn't a tall roof.
Is that ice on the roof or is that just how the roofing material looks? Eek! Are you STILL getting snow? When does it ever stop snowing there? June? August??? I'll send some of our Texas weather to you... but be careful... it can change in an instant!
BTW... love the ticker showing how many days left until the book release. Can't wait!!! WOooHOo!

ROFL!! That was classic, Dawn. Your trademark sense of humor shining through, lol. ;)
ReplyDeleteI would just LOVE to know what was going through your kids minds in the moments prior to these items landing on your roof. Were they playing keep-away from a younger sibling? Practicing with a waterballoon slingshot? Doing some MythBuster's-esque jet-propulsion experiments using 2 Liter soda bottles and these were their crash test dummies? Or (God forbid) experimenting with huge numbers of helium balloons trying to see how many it would take to lift them off the ground?...
I think your kids may have discovered a way to add square footage to your home. "Hey kids pick up your toys and throw them on the roof..er I mean the toy room."
ReplyDeleteThere's no end of fun with kids, is there? Ours threw a toy onto the roof and I caught them hanging out the upstairs bathroom window trying to climb onto the roof.
ReplyDelete(SSO question?)Is new roof on "the" list, or *Joe's* list? Is that among his DIY capabilities?
ReplyDeleteTina
OK...so this is really a bit long for a comment...but it made me remember when I was working at an old-folks home and one of my ladies came to me and said there was a 'little problem.' She wouldn't say what. Turns out she was out on her patio and noticed a pair of undies on the roof below her porch. The lady above her had been drying her laundry on her porch and had wondered what happened to the errant undies. I had to fish them off with a broom!
ReplyDeleteNot sure how sad this is but that doll with the purple hair is from McD's and it is from the Strawberry Shortcake group of toys. Thankfully I do not know her name. And yes, we have too many McD's toys, that one included!
ReplyDeleteIs that also FROST on your roof? Hope Chigaco gets warm soon.
ReplyDeleteHow is your son's school project going? Wasn't it due this month? Don't remember ever working on anything so neat back when I was that age. How cool for him! What was it all about anyway? What was he doing with all the post cards?
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing what kids toss up onto the roof. I have found frisbees, dog toys, parts to the transformer toys and more. How on earth do these little bodies get all that junk up on the roof??
ReplyDeleteHi Dawn,
ReplyDeleteDid you remember to check the gutters? I'm sure that's where the rest of the toys are hiding. I know I have a few darts in mine.
Also, I wanted you to know that you inspired me to start my own blog. You didn't inspire me enough to have 6 kids. I have 2 boys, well 3 if you count my husband and I changed my name to Dawn... Ok, so my parents may have picked that name. Anyway, the point is that I don't know how to log into Blogger without going to your blog and then clicking the "sign in" at the top. Hope you don't mine being my entrance into blogland!

Now I wonder what they would find if they dug up your back yard?
ReplyDeleteVery funny.
My brother often jokes that he's a Frisbeetarian - they believe that when you die, your soul gets stuck on the roof and no one can get it down.
ReplyDeleteShade and Sweetwater,
K
My roof has holes (rain in the bathroom! what fun!) and squirrels and mice and... I am doing my best to avoid letting the starlings and the wasps build their nests around here.
ReplyDeleteThe fun part is that this is a rent house, so the Landlord has that responsibility, and he is hesitant to fix it (he'd rather patch it).
A new house is on MY list. :-)
How fun! A "what's on the roof?" post! You always come up with something clever, Dawn.
ReplyDeleteYou need a taller house. This would force the children to use physics to ensure they still got stuff on the roof.
ReplyDeleteAlternatively, you could get one of those chalet style roofs (rooves?), steel and steep to prevent snow -and toys- from sticking.

I am afraid to ask how they got on the roof to begin with!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I just pre-ordered your book through amazon.ca, and was informed it would ship September 2nd.
That is too funny!! We have a two-story town home and with our walkout basement, the back is like 3 stories--my boys would have to work pretty hard to get things up there...LOL!!
ReplyDeleteOkay so my 7 year old daughter said "What is that? It that the blog you're always looking at?" They are going to have to start a 12 step program for your blog...nice roof collection btw...and I don't buy the story about the fake turtle...the blurry pic is just a little too convenient...
ReplyDeleteMr. Schmitty is afraid of heights. And he won't let me up on our room. I guess because he's afraid of heights and even seeing me up there will make him weak in the knees. God and the birds only know what I've got up there.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to know that I am not the only one that finds "things" on the roof..I never knew the excitement of throwing things on the roof could cause....
ReplyDeleteA frisbee I can understand but the rest ?????
ReplyDeleteDo you have a single-storey house?
My son and his friends were good at getting those pocket-money polystyrene aeroplanes on the roof, but we just waited for a good wind to bring them down again!
ROFL ROFL Kathy's comment is GREAT!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking you might not need a new roof if Joe didn't have to climb up there weekly. ;)
SHHH...Don't tell my kids, but I used to DANCE on my roof!
ReplyDeleteOur family room was HUGE and only one storey, so I could climb right out my bedroom window and do my thing. Our front porch roof was where we would sit to watch sunsets...my parents made the mistake of teaching us how to get out "in case of fire" and then not setting limits...Dad used to get worried calls from the neighbors...NO ONE EVER fell off.
Hey, stop by my blog if you "have time"! Blessings & Peace, EJT
Seems like a standard roof of anyone who either has kids or lives next door to kids. My personal favourite is the tennis balls that end up in the gutter then stick in the down pipe which you discover the next time there is a down pour and the water can't get down the pipe so it goes over the edge
ReplyDeleteMy kids like to throw things over the wall. If it ends up in a nieghbor's yard or in the wash too bad for them, because it's lost.
ReplyDeleteI'd say the Ariel there was doing the sun salutation or the downward dog... but she's doing it backwards, and frankly, it just makes her look like a brazen hussy.
ReplyDeleteLOL, that looks familiar. Our roof is very high so we don't go up there to clean it, we're in Florida so we just wait for the hurricanes to blow stuff back down every few years;-)
ReplyDeleteAs of right now we have 2 sippy cups, 1 bouncy ball, and I just discovered this afternoon- a hairbrush. Of course, I have a helpful 4-year-old who loves to climb on the roof to get stuff down. I think he has a future career in construction...
ReplyDeleteokay where the little rascal who keeps throwing stuff up there? I think he needs to be put on the roof. LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one with a roof like that. They get it from their dad who decorated up there with Santa and all one year, a huge flag hanging off it another year. I have had to get kids down who got stuck on the shed roof trying to get stuff down and my husband had to go to the school one day to get my son's shoe off the roof of the school so he'd have it to wear the next day.
ReplyDeleteWe have a two story house. No way I'm going up there to find out if anything is on it and my husband is no handyman Joe. I own all the tools in this house!
ReplyDeleteSorry that I don't read ALL the comments so ignore me if I'm repeating a question....I was wondering...did your son ever "pass" the battery?
ReplyDeleteSome left overs that drop out of Santa's sleigh?
ReplyDeleteWe still have our Christmas lights on our roof. I hate to think what else is up there.

Busy Mommy - Surviving Motherhood One Mess at a Time
So you send your children play on the roof.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one to live at the 6th floor? What could we find up there?
How did I miss this one?
ReplyDeleteI am cracking up over here. We have one of those squeaky toys up on ours.. it's the shape of an aligator.
Imagine how funny I found it when one of our neighbors was beyond convinced that it was a dead squirrel ;). I just let him go on thinking that. I'm sure that he eventually figured out that the "squirrel" never decomposed.
There are only toys on my porch roof. At least, that is the only roof we get them off of. If there are any on the upper roof, they can stay there until we get our metal roof repainted next year. I'm sure the painters will throw them back down to get them out of their way.
