Be happy, Dawn, at least she put the "r" in there!!! ;o)

  2. So cute. Yep. At least she's got the "r". I have a cousin who just couldn't manage that. He used to get so excited when he saw a truck. He'd exclaim, loudly, "Big truck comin'! Big truck comin'" Well, he tried to say that - he just couldn't actually get "truck" out. lol!

  3. I'm glad my kids aren't the only ones who stop performing as soon as I get the camera out. Too funny!

  4. I thought the post title was "WHY does Mommy drive?" And then I thought, "Woah, baby. How many pages is this post gonna be?"

I guess my reading skill is about on par with Brooklyn's enunciation. And I'm not nearly as cute.

  5. I know you like to keep this blog G or PG, but there was no "r" in what Brooklyn said. Sorry. Didn't hear it.

  6. OMG - memories of my middle son (now 26 years old) His grandfather (my dad) would die laughing asking our son to say "Dump Truck"
    You can only imagine...

  7. I work with kids and one day as we were taking a walk one of the kids pointed at a truck and said look and instead of truck out came a word similar to your daughter's but without the r. I had only been paying half attention at that time but he had my full attention at that point. I asked him to repeat himself (without loosing my cool so he wouldn't) and sure enough that word came out, but luckily he was pointing at a truck (which was empty) so I corrected and we kept walking.

  8. My son did NOT have the "r" at that age. We had a yard sale and my sister's boys sold some toy trucks, that he of course fell in love with while he was running around in the yard during the sale. Someone came to buy them and he started screaming "Truck! Truck! Truck!" in his "special" pronunciation. The woman just looked at me with this horrid look... yes, I taught my 18 month old to say that word! Please! His word for fork was the same. Ahhh... fun times. Thankfully my 18-month-old twins are late talkers and aren't anywhere close to swearing their way down the road :-)

  9. Wow. That was hilarious! At least she got the r in.. although I had to watch it again to make sure I heard it right. lol!

  10. LMAO! That was way too funny!

Good thing we are military and the kids all grow up saying vehicle before car or truck!

  11. My youngest used to say "fruck" and one day my sister got all bent out of shape cuz he said... Look Look a fire fruck and she heard differently... LOL sooo cute at that age.

  12. My sister "Auntie Kitty" was called a rather humorous variation on her name because my daughter would replace the K sound with a T sound. Funny thing was, she is not at all gifted in that area, if you know what I mean.

  13. HaHa, seems that lots of toddlers have trouble managing the 'tr' and replacing it with a 'f'. My son used to the same thing.

Also, if he wasn't sure what to call any particular object he'd say it was a 'fonk'. We still call something 'fonk' to this day when we aren't sure what something is called, or forget it's proper name.

  14. Ya know, good thing you wrote it down because I didn't hear the r. Too cute!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Nope, sorry, DH and I have both listened to it quite loudly and neither of us can hear an "r" in there!!
Problem with toddlers is that when you laugh, they perform - it'll be her favourite word now!!

  16. That's too funny!

One of my students the other day, a foreign student, asked for a "rubber" during math. "A what?" I asked. "A rubber. I messed up my work".

Ohhh... we call it an eraser!

  17. Too cute Dawn! You home must be a "fun" place to live :)

  18. HEHE, too funny. as least she said fruck... lol.
    Shes a cutie!!!

  19. The meanest mom of an undefeated base ball team, and a frozen butt to boot!
WHOA!! Doesn't get any better than that.

I love Brooklyn. Can I have Brooklyn? You'll still have five.
I can take her to Brooklyn every weekend to show her the area she was named after.
    Think about it ......

    Picture this..(I loved Golden Girls)
Sitting in church on a hot summer day with an irritable 2+ year old.

Off in the distance you can barely hear a fire truck heading off blaring through the street.

All of a sudden, when an appropriate response should have been a quiet Amen, you hear this shrill scream .... FIRE F*UCKS!
    FIRE F*CKS!

What started out as muffled giggles ended up with roaring laughter.

This lover of fire trucks is graduating from Tufts in a week; to do what with is life, only God knows. I am so proud, yet so sad.
    (now can I have Brooklym?)

  20. That's exactly what my daughter said...let me caution you to hold off teaching Brooklyn about "Dump Trucks" for a while. Mine often exclimed "Daddy! A Dum Fwuck!!"

    ReplyDelete
  21. My son used to substitue "f" for "s"... imagine how fun it was standing in line at the bank with a toddler screaming his head off that he WANTED A *UCKER!!!
    Ahh... memories :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. We also have a "Fruck", except our two-year-old misses the "r" half the time ;). We are quietly amused as well, but out in public we quickly say, "yes, there is a TRUCK" and ignore it. E seems to get very excited about trucks and likes to scream her special word every time she sees one. For some reason, all riding lawn mowers also fit in the truck category. Fun times :).

  23. What a sweetie! My nephew use to like to go eat at Kentucky Fried Chicken. When asked where he wanted to go eat he would say Kentucky by replacing the T with an F.

  24. I am gld that I am not alone. My little one always said her "s" as "f". So imagine my embarassment, when her foot was "Stuck" in the neeler at church. I will let you guess what word she was screaming!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ahahaha! Love it.

Now, is it just me, or does Mzzz Brooklyn sound a lot like her mama? Only the 2 year old version, of course lol. I imagine that that's exactly what you sounded like as a kid.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm also a SAHM and am a member of a local mom's group. The mispronunciations are hilarious. The 's' is sock is commonly replaced with a 'c'.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So cute. My brother was a "fruck" kid as well. My DD was a d for the f so it was a druck. And of course a "dinger" and a "dork". I love kids.

    ReplyDelete
  28. My son was worse. In addition to using "F" to start the words "truck" and "soccer", he'd take the last consonant and use it to start the words also. This made interesting words out of "sit" and "socks" .

    ReplyDelete
  29. Brooklyn is adorable! Okay, I think your post has now become a hot debate over whether there was an "r" or not! Once again, reading your reader's comments always proves to be an additional source of entertainment!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wait a minute--in all the amusement this almost got by me--do you really drive a truck? I mean, how do you fit six kids in a truck?

    ReplyDelete
  31. HAHA! Too funny!

My son just came up to me to tell me about Percy from Thomas the train, although it didn't sound like Percey...kind of no "r" in there..think very crude word for a part of a woman...

    ReplyDelete
  32. My kid sister had the opposite problem of strawberrymama... she actually DID...um, kinda echo things she'd heard Mom and Pop say. In fact, I think her first word was, umm...less than savory. In front of my grandmother.

    "She said 'truck', Ma..."

    ReplyDelete
  33. She is so cute. It is amazing to look at her "chocolate picture" and look at her now. She has changed a lot since you started blogging!

    ReplyDelete
  34. no "r" in anything I heard! potty mouth! LOLOL

    ReplyDelete
  35. My 3 yo likes to replace an L with R.

So when he is clapping, he will say "Look Mom, I'm crapping! Crap wif me Mom!"

If only he could apply that to potty training.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You probably shouldn't ask her that in church! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  37. you're not the only one who drives a fruck...but it's even better when your child is playing with one in church and blurts it out!

  38. Dawn,
What program do you use to edit your movies? My program doesn't do the cool titles yours does.

    ReplyDelete
  39. That is so cute! I heard no r in there tho'.

  40. Brooklyn is so cute! My middle son used to say something similar about his Dad's truck, but forgot the 'r'. LOL

  41. Dawn,

This amazing girl, Kristin, was just on ABC World News as the Person of the Week. She is sixteen and has a rare and deadly form of cancer. When Make-A-Wish Foundation asked her what she wanted, she said she wanted an orphanage for children in Africa orphaned by AIDS. She is amazing and your readers need to know about her. Here is a link to her story and how to donate: http://www.faithwest.org/features/KristinElliott.html The ABC feature can be read here: http://abcnews.go.com/WN/PersonOfWeek/Story?id=4776877&page=2

  43. At least that's better than what my oldest son used to call my cat. The cat's name is Ashes and we used to call it Sweet Ashes Kitty. When it came out of my son's mouth, he failed to pronounce the "h" in Ashes and replaced the "k" in kitty with a "t". You can only imagine the reaction of friends and family when they would come over and hear him talk about his "special pet".

    ReplyDelete
  44. LOL, I'm sorry to laugh, but I had the volume on high & you should've seen the look on my kids' faces when I played that, oh gosh...that was good.

    She is adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  45. We are careful now to call all fire trucks fire engines, whether or not they have a ladder (because there is apparently a difference).

We are also careful never to call big navy boats ships. We've just had one too many awkward moments in public places with my 2 1/2 year old, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Brooklyn is just so adorable!! My three year old used to tell me that she wanted to go to Frucky (minus the r) Fried Chicken for supper. I nearly died laughing every time she said it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. She is so cute! I love the "Uh huh!!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  48. LOL!!!!!!! When my middle child was 18-ish months old or so, that's pretty much how he said truck as well, and he LOVED trucks. And he'd shout out truck everytime one would drive by. Only it definately didn't SOUND like truck!! One particular day, we had arrived to drop my daughter off at preschool and a big moving truck drove by and Jared was just beside himself with excitement shouting it over and over again, and other moms were giggling away about it... LOL

  49. AHHHH HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!

  50. I'M PREGNANT WITH #2! DH wants to wait until I see a doctor (in 4 weeks) before we tell anyone. I can't keep my mouth shut so I'm posting it annonymously here. (I hope that's ok!)

  51. OMG that was too cute. LOL

  52. When my daughter was little she couldn't say FLAG.

I remember one evening we were standing in line at Sears, my daughter spotted a flag and started pointing and yelling.."A FAG...A FAG". I thought I'd die.

    ReplyDelete
  53. That provided a good laugh. I have a question for you - how's it going with your on-line surveys? I'd love to hear an update and if it's still worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. ROTFL. I was wondering what you were working on there. Too funny.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Haha, as many other commenters my daughter says the same thing..only shes almost 5 and sometimes it seems as if we can't blame it on the fact that she is little. She also says "Trunk" with an F. One day she told my husband that his Mom had a Fruck on her bed... these are the things that get us all through the day!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yeah, my little cousin said the same thing. although he didn't manage the r... so at some point his older brother missed a shot at pool and went "OH- ugh, GARRETT! SAY TRUCK!"

(maybe a sunday sound out question?)
what other words have your kids mispronounced over the years?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Def no R in that word!!! :)

Its like a lil girl I used to babysit/clean house for her parents... She had a hard time with FROG & it came out like yout truck.. so. of course her dad thought it was funny & had her saying mother frogger (fr*cker) ALL the time. She is 4 now & it still slips out from time to time.

    ReplyDelete
  58. She is so precious! ;) Thanks for sharing!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. At least Brooklyn got the R in there. I never managed the R when I was little and my mom still blushes when she tells stories.
