Scattered Pictures

You asked if all my kids shared bedrooms. Nope, I just put them on the book and game shelves to sleep.

Ni-night kids

Hibiscus blooming in February! The picture turned out pretty light, but it was absolutely beautiful in real life.

The night I got home from Texas, I tucked Clay into bed and walked out into the family room. Immediately, he started yelling, "There's something outside my window! I'm scared. I don't wanna go to bed." Used to his stalling, I, of course, replied, "There's nothing outside your window, now go to sleep." He seemed pretty freaked out though, so Savannah took pity on him and went into his room to settle him down. A second later, she yelled, "There's something outside his window! There's an animal!" We all rushed back to take a look. This is what we found sitting on the window sill...

An opossum! It's not like we live in the woods or anything. I have no idea where this little guy came from, but he posed nicely for his picture, didn't he?

Last night we had a full lunar eclipse here. Austin and Savannah went out and took pictures as the eclipse progressed. Cool, huh?

OK I'm off to make birthday cakes...

  2. Did they come with bookcase or where they sold separately?

  3. I love the picture of your little ones on the shelf! Very cute!

  4. When I worked in child care, the babies loved to knock all the toys off of the shelves and lay on them. I used to take their pics and email them to the parents.
Good times! I miss the babies.

  5. A oppossum? That's awesome. LOL!

The lunar eclipse was way cool!
Too bad the rain clouds covered it up...not that I'm complaining! Rain in AZ is almost as rare as that lunar eclipse! Haha

I miss being able to fit into places like that...those crazy kids of yours ;) Haha

  6. Very cool pics of the eclipse, and I just love how Savannah took pity on her brother and went to him to make him feel better (even if she got a fright too....lol)
A big sister who likes their younger brother?? As a big sister myself I did not know that option existed and I was under the belief that he was solely here to torture me and me to belittle him....hmmm :-)

My bookcase looks like that often as well, I mean with the books scattered in front of it, my 3 haven't decided to climb onto the shelves.....YET!

Thanks again for being here, we love you DAWN!!!

  7. You might check Clay's room... that opossum looked hungry.... lol. Thanks for the pics of the eclipse. I was too wimpy to go out in the cold to take any myself. Speaking of moon, do your kids act out worse when there's a full moon? Some months I just know there's a full moon without checking the calendar.... like today. The natives were restless and wild today. Driving me crazy (alright, not a long drive - ;0)

  8. We had way too many clouds in the sky for me to see the elcipse from here , so i'm glad you posted them. The kids got really great shots of it.

  9. Runs in the family, huh?? Your parents made you sleep on a shelf, & you make your kids sleep on a shelf! :-)

  10. It was cloudy and rainy here so we missed the eclipse - thanks for sharing!!!

  15. The shelf picture cracks me up b/c I just posted a picture like that this week of my 3-year-old. Only, instead of being a couple inches off the floor, he had climbed up the closet shelves to the one that is about five feet off the floor! My friend actually suggested that if I keep on having kids, I could just stick them all in the closet for bedtime.

  16. very cool photos of the eclipse.
Our possums look nothing like those lol

  17. Years ago when my kids were little we were playing "hide & seek" and my second son pulled all the pots and pans out of the cupboard and hid on the shelf....as if no one would notice the stuff all over the floor. Your kids on the shelf reminded me of that...good picture and good memory!!

Nice eclipse pictures too...looked the same in California!

    'possums...yeck!

  18. Love the photos, especially the kids on the shelf. Oh how I tried to get eclipse photos last night. I don't know how many times I wandered outside with the camera, but wouldn't you know it sunny San Diego actually decided to get a ton of rain and it was horribly overcast that I couldn't see a dang thing.

  19. Wonder what your son did with the booger he picked in that picture. It probably stuck between the pages of one of those books by his head. Are you gonna take a picture of that, too? HA! I can't believe I just typed that.....

I wanna know, do which kid get along better with which one? Seems like Clay and Brooklyn are partners in crime :)

  23. How adorable:)) They are soo cute.
We tried to see the lunar eclipse in Dallas Texas but it was so cloudy and drizzly that we didn't get to see much of anything. Nice picture taking from Austina and Savanah.

  24. Maybe the opossum was looking for a turkey and cheese sandwich?
Be careful of those things. They are MEAN and dumb. They do not know to rub when you try to scare them away. When my kids were little I had set a bag of trash right outside back door because it was raining. It had baby food jars in it. An opossum came up on the deck and was eatting into the bag. I opened the door thinking it would scare it away. NO!! He sat up, looked at me, and beared his big ugly teeth at me. OMG, what if he'd ran into the house???
    Nasty nasty critters!

Cool picx of the moon and I love the one of the kids in the shelf. You have some tiny kids or that shelf is much larger than mine!

    Love your blog!

  25. The kids "sleeping" on the shelves is hilarious! The eclipse was cool. We got to see it too (in Florida).

  32. I hate oppossums!! we have them here. (NWI) AT one time we thought we had a cat sleeping in our garage, I found a baby oppossum sleeping in a bucket!! eewwww My husband got into a fight with it, with the oppossum at one end of the broom and him at the other!! My husband had to use the hose to get rid of it!! They are ugly!! I hope your son is able to sleep now, my wouldn't!! Keep us laughing!! I read you every morning!!!

  33. Cute picture of the kids on the shelf. My daughter prefers the kitchen cabinets - which is probably why a lot of my cookware and bakeware ends up in a toybox. It was funny to see your photos as I posted a toddler-in-the-cabinet picture yesterday.

  34. Those pictures of the moon look so great!!!!I wish mine and come out like that (hint hint hubby). Gotta love those silly kids.

  35. I love your pictures of the eclipse! We knew that it was happening but it was too cloudy for us to see anything. We hardley ever get rain down here in Southern California and the one night we don't want it we get it. Checking your blog is my daily routine. Love it!

  36. those pictures are too cute... if only i had shelves big enough!! your oppossum totally reminded me of something and has given me something to blog about today. :)

btw, i stumbled on your site from the bloggers choice awards... and i love it!

  37. Sigh. If only we could "put them away" when we're done playing with them.

    Cute, cute, cute.

  38. ahaha! Love the pics of the kids on the bookshelf. Reminds me of when my *almost* 20 month old clears out the bottom shelf of my linen closet and climbs in. She hardly fits, and screams everytime she does it, but still insists on doing it over and over again.

Your eclipse pics are great!! My friend(here in CO) said she watched it with her son the other night and I wish I'd known about it before the fact.

I thought of you this morning. I was in my boys' room and saw my sons paint set(Spin N' Paint) on the floor, exactly where I told him NOT to put it last night. Now, upon putting it in the closet, I made a discovery that I thought you might appreciate. I must preface this with the fact that I don't go into the boys' closet all that often. The oldest 2 have the majority of their clothes in there, and when I do laundry, I make them put their own things away. This is why it's taken until now for me to make the discovery that my 8 year old took a box of doughnuts OUT of the trash that I threw out almost 2 weeks ago. My husband had bought them, we didn't eat them all, I threw them out about 5 or 6 days after the fact, and at the time, said 8 year old started jumping up and down, talking about how he wanted one. I refused, because he doesn't need to eat them, and they were stale. Unbeknownst to me, the child TOOK them out of the trash and not only ate, like 4 of the stupid things, but then he stashed the box and the remaining 3 doughnuts in the top of his closet.

I guess I should be labeled a bad mother now too, for letting doughnuts chill in the top of my kids' closet for almost 2 weeks.
TWO WEEKS! I apparently need to investigate the closet more often.

  40. Oppossoms freak me out. I'd have passed out if one were looking in the window......

By the way, is it 'an' oppossom or 'a' oppossom? What is the rule when the 'o' is silent? I've always wondered.....maybe one of your readers will know. I've always avoided putting the term in written word.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The opossum picture really weirded me out. About a week ago I had a dream that there was an opossum on my window sill and I let him in and was carrying him around the house. The dream alone was bizarre enough, but now to see that opossums actually do go up to peoples windows........

  42. LOL on the Possum...I guess my little guy should be glad all he had was a cricket!

Your son will never, ever forget that!

  43. Hi Dawn, I have a few question's for sunday sound out. #1. How long have you and Joe been married? #2. Did he propose to you in a unique way? #3. What time do you put the kiddo's to bed on school nights and weekends? Kristine in Michigan.

  44. Ewwwww I hate opossums, they look like huge rats with an attitude. I prefer to see them as roadkill, much better than the skunks we get around here anyway!
And those pix of your kids in the shelf...soooo cute!

  45. Wow, its cute pictures, especially a lunar picture... very nice..

  50. Hi dawn, I think it's cruel to let 2 children sleep on 1 shelf, should let them have a shelf each & call them bunk beds!!! Seriously, cute picture. I used to sleep in a drawer - for real!

I started my own blog about 10 minutes ago, nobody has commented yet, any tips? You can save teh question for Sunday if you like, long time reader, first time poster, thanks for making me laugh

  53. Possums are cool! They are actually quite beneficial to have around. They eat slugs, snails and small rodents. They also clean up roadkill. Their body temperature is too low to incubate the rabies virus so there's no worry of them being rabid.

  54. My oldest used to clean out the entertainment center and climb under it too. Kids are so funny!

  55. Now that you're a famous mom, you probably get this a lot, but I must tell you the smiles on your two tiny ones are just gorgeous. What a beautiful family you have. So adorable!

  56. I love your blog. It is hilarious and so down to "true life"! I have three of my own and they make my head spin at times. I am usually the one with moldy food, Just Kidding! Thanks for sharing your stories! I love them! Wish I could get over here more to see your daily posts!

  57. Wow! Clay and Brooklyn have the same bedroom I had as a child, only my doors were the sliding kind. I, too, have the picture to prove it. Mine was actually a record cabinet, but it was my favorite hide away place until one day the cabinet just shrunk!!! I thought Mom was going to have to use Crisco me to get me out! Ah, the good old days when Crisco was good for you, oh and yeah the fond memories of hiding in a place where you could eavesdrop on the grownups without detection, until one of them played the stereo and found out about your wonderful hideout because your wiggling kept making the record skip. Dads take it very serious when their albums get scratched. Oops, now I have aged myself :oj
P.S. I live in opossum country and my girlfriend actually ate opossum stew!!(of course she was told about it after the fact -did NOT taste like chicken, according to her) Mean and nasty little critters, even the cute babies.

    ReplyDelete
  58. At the very least you could let them sleep on separate shelves! Cute picture!

  59. The picture of them in the bookcase is priceless! My 18yodd use to love to climb in the kitchen cabinet, one of my favorite pictures of her! Enjoy them, the days pass quickly.

  60. oh, that 'possum is WAY scarier than the neighbor's cat that tried jumping and jumping and jumping into my window in the middle of the night when I was in elementary school.

But I'm so glad your kids got pics of the lunar eclipse...we missed it because it was too cloudy out that night out here in VA.

  61. Nice pictures! When they grow up, they will remember and appreciate you more as their loving and kind parent.
