HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
My husband and I have never made a big deal out of Valentine's Day. As long as he acknowledges it in some way, I'm happy. This year he got me a dozen pink roses that are very pretty. There was also a heart shaped balloon in the vase. That is, until Clayton got ahold of it and popped it. He also got me a card that reads-
"Some days are so busy that all I wish for is one quiet moment...
...just to tell you how much I love being married to you.
Happy Valentine's Day to My Wonderful Husband."
To his credit,Joe did notice that the card said "husband", and had crossed it out and written "wife" in its place. I had to laugh when I saw it anyway. He explained that he couldn't find a card that said what he wanted it to say so he picked up this one. Of course, there's a much bigger selection from which to choose when you don't wait until the day OF or the day BEFORE an occasion. That said, I have no room to talk this year as I completely forgot to get him a card at all. I know, I know. I did, however, get him a big box of his favorite candy so I'm not a complete loser.
And I'm sure no one will be surprised to learn that I found Lexington's glasses this morning. You know, because I gave up and ordered her a new pair yesterday. It only makes sense that I'd find them today. They were on top of a box under the girls' bunks. I hadn't actually looked there because my daughters assured me that they'd searched under the beds. My bad.
I'm going to Texas to visit a very awesome person - my web designer and friend, Kelli. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to a little sunshine! I'm not sure if I'll be able to connect to the internet while I'm there, but I'll try to update. If not, see ya Monday! I'm off to pack now. Have a great weekend!
I hope you aren't comming (didn't come) to my part of TX, we are suppose to have freezing rain and high of about freezing Friday.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! I just went to Kellis website and she is in Corpus Christi...OMG Dawn will be 20 mins from my home town..WOOP WOOP..If you get this before you leave please email me. It would so be a pleasure to be able to meet you and do lunch or something, That is if I can get off
ReplyDeleteHave fun ya'll. Don't you have to say ya'll? I think it is nice hubby picked a card that said what he wanted!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to be the one that has to tell you this, but there will likely be no sunshine in Texas this weekend. The forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday is all 70-80% chance of rain. But it's relatively warm, so that should at least be better than the snow!
ReplyDeleteAh, how sweet! Remember to take a picture of the flowers before you go -- before they wilt! I never believe the kids when they say they've already looked somewhere. Their version of looking is opening the door to the room, looking around for 1.3 seconds, and saying, "Mom, it's not in there."
ReplyDeleteIt's not Valentine's Day...
ReplyDeleteIt's Half-Price-Chocolate-Day Eve!!!
That stinks about the glasses, but hey, look on the bright side...now she'll have 2 pair, so when she loses one, she'll have a backup! :) Hope your TX weather is just wonderful!!
ReplyDelete~SA~
Well I hope you have some sunshire b/c here in Sugar land it is supposed to rain all weekend. As if I haven't enough rain this year. My sone has decorated his walls quite colorfully b/c of teh rain and he and his sister decided to play baseball the other day and he now has two holes in his wall. His sister is more covert in the decorating. Looked in her closet today and it is just as colorfull as my son's room. As for Valentines day you got more thatn I did from my hubby....(he is reading over my sholder and told me I am wrong, he paid off my balance for this past quarter at HBU and just bought me a laptop for school...Sorry honey!)
ReplyDeletehave a great, well-deserved time out!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giggles about the card!
What a classic husband/Valentine moment! I wrote a little Valentine post today, too, just couldn't pass up that opportunity. Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteDo I get some kind of prize for being the first to comment?!?
ReplyDeleteanywho- happy v-day :-)
(just a reader from NC)
I'm just wondering what the kid at the checkout thought when he saw your husband buying a card for his "husband". Hee hee!
ReplyDeleteWell, no one can say that they forgot Valentine's day here in Merida. It's a big day in Mexico, because it's called the day of love and friendship here, so lots of people get balloons and flowers, not just significant others. Anyway, there are at least 3 flower vendors set on on every major corner, and people just wandering in traffic hawking roses, and those big mylar balloons. I watched a lady try to sell a rose to a tourist on the top deck of a double decker bus, I don't know how they were going to exchange money and roses.
ReplyDeleteI have been traveling so I haven't been keeping up with my reading, what is the map project? I keep trying to find out but haven't found the right post yet.
I'd be glad to send a post card, it's take about 6 to 8 weeks to get there.
regards,
Theresa
I know I can't possibly be the first. But by you monitoring all the comments, it sure does make a girl feel special. LOL
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Do the normal folks in your life know of your online success? (Such as your pastor, doctor, grocery store check out girl) Or, is is still safe for you to go outside the house without paparazzi following you? I mean it's only a matter of days ya know! If I were you, I'd stroll thru the store in my best Squidward voice shouting "I have arrived."
Honestly, I love your blog and I'm sure you have inspired many to start their own blog - if you don't know any others, count me as #1 :D
Welcome to Texas! It's supposed to be a bit chilli this weekend highs in the 50's atleast in East Tx. No snow though. :)
ReplyDeleteCan't believe I came out of lurking just to say that.
Enjoy the sunshine Dawn! Sounds like you deserve a nice break from reality! You should have your husband update while you are gone. Maybe he would give us a new recipe that includes jello!?
ReplyDeleteIf you are near Webster give me a shout! Oh and I took a lesson from you and took a picture of dinner tonight (the fancy Valentine heart shaped pizza we ordered from Papa John's). Happy Valentines and enjoy our not so little state :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you found the glasses. My 3 yr old broke the 7 yr olds glasses the other day. If ti ever happens again I swear by 39dollarglasses.com they have lots of great pairs and come standard with the poly/carb safety lenses (and the thin ones too!). I swear I am keeping them in business.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog and have been reading since the auction. I am a single mom to 4 kiddos and it makes me feel better that I'm not the only one out there. I love reading the comments people leave you too.
Well, I'm a complete loser because I got my huband zilch, nada, nothing. He came early with not only roses for me but flowers for our two oldest girls. Just plaster a big "L" on my forehead for everyone to read!
ReplyDeleteAnd of course, a BIG happy Valentine's Day to you, Dawn!
ReplyDeleteYou'll be happy to know that I read through the entire text of the card before my befuddlement was lifted. I was utterly amazed that Clay had managed to come up with such a touching bit of prose and that a boy, a boy CHILD, was that in tune. Oh yeah... by "he" you meant Joe. It made SOOOO much more sense then.
I got my edible arrangements. Only *8* chocolate dipped strawberries and *7* pineapple flowers. Didn't they used to do so much more and better? I won't even comment how my entire arrangement still smells like cigarette smoke from the delivery guy's car. Yuck! Had it tasted funky, I was ready to call, but it's Valentine's Day....
Hope everyone had a happy and loving Valentine's Day!
Michelle
Dawn,
ReplyDeleteI don't celebrate Valentines Day. My partner & I have been together for 16 yrs and we rarely argue even with 2 kids in tow. We try to tell each other XO at least once a day. That's good enough for us.
Enjoy your trip.
Michelle
I hope you have a fun & safe trip. At least now you have a spare pair of glasses. For a little while anyway.........
ReplyDeleteSafe Travels! You'll find Corpus windy, yet charming in someways. My dad grew up not far from there and it was a vacation spot when I was a kid a lot. The aquarium and the USS Lexington are cool if you have time. :-) As far as food goes you'll find yummy fresh seafood about 30 minutes away in Port Aransas - it has a very Jimmy Buffet feel.
ReplyDeleteWould you believe I opened your site before I checked my email. Just can't get enough of you, you're awesome! Love the note you wrote "...cookies, shhh" You're too funny.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day to you, too! Happy packing and safe trip to Texas!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh!!!! I don't think I have laughed that hard in a long time! Thanks for making me stomach hurt......
ReplyDeletehusband, wife.......I am still laughing and I read it 10 minutes ago......
Thanks, Dawn. You always make me laugh and I needed it today.
Have a great weekend.
Have fun! Of course you found the glasses! Are you going to see Mimi?
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentines Day!! Have a great trip. If it's any consolation, I forgot to get my hubby a gift for Valentines too. Not chocolate or a card. I hope he doesn't hold it against me...lol. At least you remembered the chocolates. God bless
ReplyDeleteUmm, you are visiting your web designer and don't know if you will have internet access???? Is that just a cop-out to get a break from blogging?
ReplyDeleteI would still pack your jacket - high on Saturday here in Central Tx is 47* and it will be raining. Safe travels to you though!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby is sick today so as I was walking out the door to do some grocery shopping he says, "Why don't you buy yourself some flowers so I won't have to go out." Now that's romance for ya!
ReplyDeleteHave fun Ya'all
ReplyDeleteAll cards written "WIFE" have been sold? Yes? And there was only those written "Husband" left! Interesting! Is there someone for an explanation: The sales bring to light that husbands feel more thankful for their wife than ...the opposite, no? I can't see an other explanation :)
ReplyDelete(hope everybody understand my english).
Have a good week end in Texas, Dawn. catherine
Your email's down, but now I get it. It's because you are in Texas and your email box may be OVERFLOWING.
ReplyDeleteIt's sunny here today.
Hi Dawn!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry that you had to pick a stormy weekend to come to Texas, but I hope you have fun anyway! I second the recommendation about the USS Lexington, and the Texas State Aquarium is, although small, a really cool place! Definitely worth seeing. I only wish that your web designer lived in Austin so that I could lure you with a barbecue meal.
Hope you have a great time and a safe trip!
Hope you have a great trip! I didn't get my husband anything either, and I asked him about it...his reply to whether I should have gotten him something? "NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!" I guess I'm off the hook!
ReplyDeleteEven if it is raining when you're in Corpus, it's got to better than 500 degrees below 0!!! I used to live in the snow and I'm so happy to be back in Texas! Whenever it gets hot I just say, "Well, it could be snowing!"
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Corpus. I used to live there and loved it!
Dawn,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to assure you that, while we Texans occasionally still use horsed as transportation, and most of us have some sort of firearm on our person, we do indeed have the internet down here.
Have a great trip!
(I’m sorry for the sarcasm, but I just couldn’t resist. :o)
did you find a new winter jacket yet for your kids.. I can't remember which needed one. I got one for my son on super clearance at Sears. Also try Steve and Barry's at Spring Hill or Randhurst.
ReplyDeleteYou might not have access to a computer 'til Monday???
ReplyDeleteAaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Hyperventilating here... For my sake, I hope u do!
Joe has good taste in cards . . . I bought the exact same one for my husband!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found the glasses. Having a back up pair will be good, just make sure to keep them someplace safe, but not too safe or you will never find them when you need them!
Thanks for providing a bright spot in my days.
I had to laugh about your "husband" card and the fact that there would have been more options had he gone earlier. I planned a romantic evening for my husband and I the Saturday before because it was better than a "Thursday" and I knew my husband wouldn't. You want it done right then do it yourself I say. Anyhow, on Valentines Day I went to the store for milk and had to laugh at the hundreds of men shopping at 5:30 pm frantically looking for a card, flowers, balloons, candy, & etc. It was hysterical; not one woman in those sections, just men. I was chuckling the whole way through. My husband himself had ran to the store at 4:30 (got a card, left it on his work bench, still don't have it as of Friday). I told him about all the men and he said, "well they were probably working all day like I was and this was their first chance". My response was they had 364 days since last Valentines Day. I know there are exceptions out there but after seeing all those men I guess it's not personal it's just the way they're built. My husband said he wants to do something nice for me this Saturday when he's off - as long as he does sometime I don't care about the date all that much. Your "husband" card just cracked me up & I give him credit for caring that it said the "right" words (minus "wife" anyhow).
