"What's wrong Brooklyn? You had a bad dream? Nooooo! Oh, please don't ask to sleep in my bed. Please, please, please. Brooklyn don't you want to go back to sleep in your bed? Oh, sure you do. Your bed is comfy. You don't want to sleep in my bed. Go back to sleep in YOUR BED, Baby."
That's what the logical person (who desperately needs a decent night's sleep) in me wanted to say.
But this is what I really said...
"Ohhh, it's okay, Baby. It was just a dream. It's okay. Mommy's here. Do you wanna sleep in my bed tonight? Hop in, Sweetie. Try to go back to sleep now. kiss kiss Go to sleep. I love you."
THIS is why I wanted to tell her to get back in her own bed.
For some reason, she always sleeps horizontally across my bed. It's like she's a compass or something. She automatically magnetically points north. I scoot her over and turn her around and two seconds later, she's horizontal again. I push her back over and flip, she's back like this!
It's fun for me because I get to be kicked in the butt all. night. long. I've tried putting a pillow barrier between us, but she still manages to sneak her feet under or over the line of pillows. And she's hot! She's like a little heater which is wonderful for a perimenopausal woman who wakes up drenched in sweat ordinarily.
Sigh. But she's cute and snuggly and she's my last baby. How can I possibly turn her away when she throws her little arms around my neck and kisses me and says, "I love you so much, Mommy!" a hundred times a day?
This is exactly how I treated my last one, too!
ReplyDeleteGee, you do have a problem don't you ;-). Maybe you should turn your bed so it is orientated north and south.
ReplyDeleteMy two kids are the same way. I'm frequently in bed with one or both of them. The boy is always either perpendicular or on my pillow with me. The girl digs her hot little feet into me so hard it hurts! But someday I'll wish they were small enough to still snuggle in bed. I assume.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Brooklyn will grow up to marry my son because he does the exact same thing! Only my son must face East-West.
ReplyDeleteWhat is double fun is when he lays between me and my husband. One of us gets the head in the middle of the back, the other one gets kicked with feet. I tried to solved this problem by placing my son between myself and the edge of the bed. He will just push and push on me until I am practically on top of my husband and my son has the other 3/4 of our king size bed.
One time, while sleeping on the other side of me, he actually kicked over me and kicked my hubby.
Dawn,
ReplyDeleteMy son sleeps the same way. But like you, he's my baby and I love those little arms around my neck.
Hugs!
Could be she doesn't want a pillow, and she's avoiding them by sleeping that way? Who knows the workings of a preschooler mind.
ReplyDeleteIf you know how to sew make here some new PJs out of a parka and footsies. Extra padding on the feet!!
ReplyDeleteLOL Yeah.. my hubby is deployed right now, and my baby girl sleeps in our bed too! We have a King size and she manages to sleep practially ON TOP of me!!! And we have 2 dogs that sleep in the bed too!!! Granted I have allowed all of this to happen, but I love it and wouldnt change it for the world!
ReplyDeleteYou could try sleeping sideways, too.
ReplyDeleteThese are the moments that get you through the hardest times. :) You are a great Mommy!
ReplyDeleteI completely know what you mean. My baby girl does the same thing. It seems we tend to give in easier to the last one too. We can't help it. :) We're moms that's what we do. :D
ReplyDeleteafter many nights of waking with me on one couch and hubby on the other... Our daughter slept the same way... we finally kicked her out of our bed... she was 6 ish... both of our kids slept with us... and just for all parents with young kids ... they will occasionally come back home and still sleep with you if you let them... my son is 23 tomorrow and a couple months ago was here for something and crawled into bed with me and slept in our bed for several hours after i got up...my kids are both parents now and thankfully are still close enough to want to be close to us once in a blue mooon :) it is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteThis brings back lots of memories for me. When my daughter and son were little and my husband went out of town I let them sleep with me. That didn't work out well so I let each one take turns.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say that didn't last long either...... the bruises I had and the aches just wasn't worth it. LOL
I often worried how they ever would get married and be able to sleep with their partners...
I guess it is a 'kid' thing.

For some reason, _this_ is exactly what kids seem to do -- must be the definion of the term "kid": when sleeping in their parents's bed, they sleep horizontally, ;-).
ReplyDeleteSo long,
Corinna
haha too funny. My baby is 12 now and she was sweet to sleep with when she was little, but now she is so tossy turny you are liable to wake up with a black eye!
ReplyDeleteMy Kobe used to do the SAME thing! He'd get in between my hubby and I, then turn ACROSS the bed just like Brooklyn. We'd turn him and he'd be right back where he'd started. AND he hated being covered up but since he slept in the middle that meant he'd hold the covers down by sleeping on top of them. We'd try to cover him up and in the middle of a sound sleep, he'd raise his legs straight in the air to avoid being covered. LOL!! Kids are CRAZY! But you just gotta love 'em!
ReplyDeleteAh haha!!! My almost 10 year old daughter does the EXACT same thing. She's always been that way. She usually doesn't wake us up anymore, we've trained her to just go to the couch! lol
ReplyDeleteDo you watch "The Middle"? They recently had an episode where their youngest (BRICK)came to sleep w/ them and they both ended up leaving the bed because he's a bed hog. Funny stuff!!!
Hi Dawn, I hear you on the night sweats. When you wake up your hair looks like a crazy woman ;) I was cleaning under my couch cushions yesterday and found my son's pacifer. Wouldn't be such a terrible thing if he wasn't 14 now:O Ya think I need to clean there more often? LOL Kristine in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteMy little one (well, he's 11) sometimes needs me when he's sick. He'll arrive in the middle of the night, feverish or chilling, and want comfort. By the morning, I'm on the couch and he's diagonal in my bed.
ReplyDeleteGood to know it's not just me that has that "it's my last baby" syndrome! They are just so darn cute!
ReplyDeleteOMG - that's exactly what my 3 year old daughter does, only she does it across our pillows so I get her running her feet through my hair. She really has a hair fettish. If she's not touching my hair - either feet or hands - she cries. It's made for some very long, sleepless nights and fights between me and my husband. But, like you, I can't turn my baby girl away.
ReplyDeleteSomeday we'll have to set up my 5 y/o and Brooklyn. They'd be perfect for each other! My son does all the things she does, including the little heater bit. They can sleep happily-ever-after, sideways with no blankets.
