"Mama, I have clay stuck in my ear and hair."
"What??? How is Clay stuck in your ear???"
"No, not my brother, Clay. This kind of clay! See?"
"No, not my brother, Clay. This kind of clay! See?"
Brooklyn turned so I could see a glob of clay pushed inside her ear. After scooping that out, I got to work on the chunk that was embedded in her hair. I think, by the time I was done, I'd pulled out enough hair to make a small wig.
"Mom, will you paint my nails?"
"Didn't I just paint them yesterday, Brooklyn ?"
"Didn't I just paint them yesterday, Brooklyn ?"
"But it's washing off. I want more on. Pleeeease?"
"Oh ok, but give me a minute. I need to finish folding this laundry."
A few minutes pass and I notice the unmistakable smell of nail polish in the air.
"Brooklyn! I told you I'd paint them in a minute! Grrrrrr!"
Isn't my carpet pretty? Just like Brooklyn's nails.
"I was throwing it up and trying to catch it in my mouth," came his innocent answer.
"Well that was a stupid idea not the best idea you've ever come up with. You just wasted a bunch of cereal. Now clean it up and DON'T DO IT AGAIN!"
"What the... Again with the nail polish? Really? REALLY???"
"Clayton, did you think my washing machine was a piece of paper?"
"No."
"Haven't I told you that you can only draw on paper?"
"Yes."
"Then why did you draw on the washing machine?"
"I dunno."
"Uh huh. Makes perfect sense to me. Guess what, Clay."
"What?"
"You're washing the ink off and then you're going to bed."
"Why?"
"I dunno."
well, I sure needed that laugh right about now!!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure you were at YOUR house and not MINE? I LOVE my Mr. Clean magic eraser, but it doesn't get the etched name out of my bathroom door. I have no idea how to remove clay from hair, but cooking oil works very well for removing gum from hair. There is ALWAYS cereal on my floor and no one owns up to it and the kids make a worse mess cleaning it up (which I still make them do) and you can read how I removed nail polish from my carpet here:

We do still have some, but it's up HIGH and my kids have heard me call the gypsy hotline to find out when they are in my area picking up trouble-making kids. Either they believe it or they haven't found where I put the polish.
(BTW, It may rain Saturday so Lands End is our backup plan if the game gets rained out.)
I love reading your blog, but one question why do you have a high chair? Your baby is not that kind of baby anymore. Just wondering. I am thankful my children keep their artistic talents to the paper for the most part:)
ReplyDeleteJust because I don't have enough chairs for my table. It's either the high chair or an over-turned bucket.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly why I don't paint my nails!
ReplyDeleteHang in there Dawn. All moms have days like this. You are a good mom and I love reading your blog!
ReplyDeleteWell, that's a Calgon moment if ever I heard one. :)Never a dull moment in the Meehan household.
ReplyDeleteLOL -- ah life with kids is always an adventure!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHope today is better!!!
Dawn, Dawn, Dawn....when will you ever learn? Markers and nail polish have no place in the home of under aged children! If said products must be present, keep them under lock and key!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA, I love the highchair face, very creative. Wouldn't be quite as funny if it happened to mine though, but it's hilarious when it's happening to someone elses'. ;)
ReplyDeleteA Mother's job is NEVER done! All I can say is "Hang in there". :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be honest, I laughed. BUT... only because I know how it feels to be the only one home and have to constantly put out fires or clean up messes. ;) I hand it to you!!!!!! How mother's keep their sanity is beyond me. No wonder when the kids leave women get empty nest syndrome, their minds are too dormat after years of going!
ReplyDeleteSounds like Supernanny needs to pay a visit to those two! Good luck!!
ReplyDeletelol, all pretty manageable messes, and you handle them soo well:) how is Savannah's knee post surgery?
ReplyDeleteCheck out this nail polish....Piggy Paint. Cleans up super easy and actually stays on their fingers as well as having no chemicals in it!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I was having a heck of a day here at work and decided to glance at your blog. You do my heart good, Sweetie! I sure wish we lived closer to one another. Your children are a riot (in a good way). Thanks for the smiles.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless,
Robin E from Mississippi
OMG!!! My daughter did the same thing with finger nail polish. She painted my couch, my walls, my railing on the stairs, my tv, and stand holding the tv up! To this day (1.5 years later) I still have dark pink nail polish on my railing and on my tv stand. I think I finally got most of it off my walls. Of course, my walls need to be painted now. So feeling your pain right now!
ReplyDeleteTo remove the polish use non-acetone nail polish remover. Use it generously and blot. I had to remove red, red that no one did.
ReplyDeleteWe have so many barbies and polly pockets that have nail polish all over them. If I had a high chair I am sure it would be painted with nail polish too!
ReplyDeleteOh Dawn! I know you're trying to take it easy while trying not to blow up!
ReplyDeleteAt least you didn't have to take two kids to the pediatrician at once because one got an eraser stuck way down his ear and the other got a piece of rolled up electrical tape in his... I love your line-I dunno. I think I need to use that one more often. And whoopee on your new book coming out soon! P.S.my daughter just asked when her brothers painted that picture on the washer...it looks just like our artists' work.
ReplyDeleteo. my. so frustrating. but "i dunno" is a keeper. i'm using it!!!
ReplyDeletecheck out the great recipes and hilarious videos at www.stickycook.com
HAHAHA, I love the highchair face, very creative.
ReplyDeleteVery funny!
ReplyDeleteYou'd be so bored if you didn't have six mess makers!
Great news on the book =)
Sometimes you just have to give up and do the cleaning once a year. The kids draw on everything, the carpet needs cleaning, Play-Doh is forbidden. Spring cleaning is that time for us to get things back in order. Once everyone gets started, it's easy, it's just getting the kids to start. They already filled two garbage totes of old junk, toys and clothes, and just as much to donate. And everyone has an area to dust, vacuum and clean.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any ideas or tips on spring cleaning?
You are a saint. Really & truly.
ReplyDeleteI know you might be a little busy for this, but I posted your blog info in my post today & nominated you for a cute blogger award. I think you're amazing!! Hope you can pop by and check it out.
Thanks!

oh I so needed that laugh today! It has never occurred to me to same i dunno when sending them to their room/bed!! I am gonna try that!
ReplyDeleteSo how does nail polish remover work on plastic anyway? Sounds like everyone over there is having a bit of spring fever.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel any better, I told Little Miss that standing next to her chair at breakfast time - with her breakfast sitting on its plate at her place - complaining of being starving was about the dumbest thing she could possibly do. She was deeply offended. I explained that it was fact and not meant to offend. *sigh*
My sister found out recently that bug spray takes nail polish out of carpet. I haven't had to try it yet. And no, she doesn't have any kids, she spilled it herself.
