Beauty School

I was giving Austin a haircut outside today so he'll be all handsome-like for his graduation on Monday. Clay came out and said, "Look Mom! I have armpit hair!"

I turned around to see this...

Yep, Clay scooped up the pile of hair from the garage floor and stuffed it under his armpits. A few minutes later, he ran inside and reemerged with this brand new hair cut...
Note the before and after pictures. Great new hairstyle, don't you think? Uh yeah. I asked him, "Clay, why did you cut your hair? Do you know how to cut hair? Did you go to beauty school to learn how to cut hair???"
To which I heard this reply, "You didn't go to beauty school to learn how to cut hair either."
Touché!
Then I buzzed him. That kid's gonna be the death of me.

  1. Perhaps a buzz haircut will trick the Chicago weather into warming up. We can hope.

  2. HAHAHAH!!! well at least he's a boy and you COULD buzz him. what happens when a girl does that???? I'm so worried about my 2 girls. I'm sure one of them will do it. yikes.

  3. At least you could buzz cut his hair! My daughter did the same style, front and back, 3 days before her very first day of school!

  5. Your kids cracck me up. Never a dull moment in your house. Buzz cuts are easier to do anyways.

  6. My daughter gave herself a similar haircut when she was 4, plus an addition hunk off the side. Just before we could go do the holiday family pic - yeah, we didn't get it done that year.

Almost 14 years later she DID give herself a buzz cut, just before leaving for the navy. Fortunately, it's been 2 years, and it's getting back to its gorgeous long curly self.

  7. That's too funny Dawn! Both of my boys, within days of each other, took their school scissors to their already buzzed hair and gave themselves little semi-bald patches up front. The Head Demon said he didn't want his 'fro growing back and the Demon-In-Training was trying to cut all the brown hair off to get to the blonde hair at the bottom. (He doesn't get that the SUN is turning his hair blonde). I think its just a summer madness gene that strikes all boys under the age of 15.

  9. At least it wasn't the kid whose hair you just cut. His armpit hair cracked me up.

  10. I love the arm pit hair and would have laughed myself silly over that one. Are you going to take a picture of the buzz cut? He is such a cutie pie.

  11. They ALL cut their own hair at some point. Or they cut a sibling's hair. Just a fact of life. Sigh.

  12. My daughter once cut her hair at the back, luckily it sort of blended.

I had a friend whose daughter cut her fringe the day before she was bridesmaid, it was a spiky mess!

  13. Dawn I've come to the conclusion the kids do things to see if they make it in to your next book LOL. Is Clay your only child to give him/herself (or a sibling) a haircut? If so you are very fortunate !

  14. Ah, a "Right of Passage..." moment.

I think just about every kid does this at some point. As soon as I saw the title, I figured it was either Clay giving himself a haircut or Brooklyn one. :)

  15. Hahaha, fabulous!!! =D

Oh well. A buzz cut is easier to take care of anyway.

  17. Too funny! And his haircut was so cute before!...oh well. This is why I keep all scissors waaaay out of reach of my girls - oh, the trauma they could cause their poor mom!

  18. WHen my boys were 6 abd 4 the 6 year old gave his brother a haircut. WHen I asked him why, he told me they were playing robbers and Shaun's hair was showing to much under the hat and people would know who he was :)

  19. oh yeah, at least Brooklyn didn't see him do it, did she? just so you didn't have to buzz her too, hehehe

  21. When my daughter cut her bangs down to the scalp and the left side of her cute pageboy on the 3rd day of Kindergarten because "she wanted it to be long" (don't ask!), I thought that was bad. We had to brush forward all the hair from the back to cover the two inch wide bare spot where her bangs were (and were sweeping up Barbie hair and stuffed animal hair from her hair cutting rampage for days), but the worst case I ever saw was a girl in her gymnastics class a couple of years later.

This poor girl had waist length beautiful ringlets. Not only did she cut off most of her hair, but she had to have stitches in many places. Poor thing. She was so embarrassed.

  24. Both of my kids have cut their hair. My daughter actually did it three times! The last time was the day before kindergarten school picture day. It's a lovely photo, let me tell you!

  25. Ohhh, the "funny" comebacks they throw at us! I told my 7 year old daughter that it was against the rules to have kids younger than her climb up on her bunk bed. She relplied (with much head wagging and attitude) "What?! It's rule in the United States?!"

  26. LOL!!! That is so funny! Something one of my kids would do too. hahaha.

  27. That armpit hair is tooooooo funny! The haircut is not so funny, but that's kids for ya! At least it will grow back! Have a blessed day!!

  28. Fake armpit hair and self haircuts? Are these the kinds of things I have to look forward to with my oh-so-sweet 7-month-old little boy? I guess if that's the worst, then I'll probably be lucky. And at the very least, entertained!
