After that, the UPS guy stopped by to bring me a box of :::::::drumroll::::::: my books! My actual, real, honest-to-goodness book! It isn't a dream after all!
After I rolled around in the pile of books for a while, Karen from Guideposts stopped by. Because I'm going to begin videoblogging for the Guideposts website, Karen, videoqueen extraordinaire, flew in from New York today to teach me how to shoot a video, how to hold the camera steady, how to shoot a "B roll", and how to keep a log of the footage I've shot.
Karen suggested getting some footage of the kids playing outside. I suggested getting some footage of the muddy footprints they tracked inside. She suggested getting shots of Brooklyn playing with her dolls. I suggested getting shots of Clayton taking her dolls away from her just to hear her scream. She suggested getting Savannah cooking dinner. I suggested getting Savannah dropping the entire bottle of bay leaves in the stew.
Karen has 2 kids. On her way home this evening, she made an appointment to get her tubes tied.
OK, I'm just kidding. She actually had the same ideas (and way more!) that I had. We both thought of filming me blogging my idea at the beginning of the episode a la Carrie Bradshaw. Except without the sex. And the city. And the shoes.
I'm totally looking forward to doing this! We're going to have so much fun making these videos! And I really think you guys are going enjoy them too!

Congratulations, Dawn! I remember the feeling of opening that first box of books. It certainly was a surreal moment. I flipped through the pages, muttering, "I wrote that...I wrote that too...I wrote that too!" What a mind-blowing thing to see your thoughts turn into words which turns into a manuscript that ends up as a book. It's a HUGE accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck on your journey. I know you'll be great, and most importantly, I know you'll walk the path joyfully.
Blessings,
Theresa
How exciting to get your books!!
ReplyDeleteHmm that reminds me I haven't received any of my Guideposts I subscribed to.

ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS on your books!!! How wonderful. =)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Dawn!
ReplyDeleteHad to blog about your ebay ad after going to the ladies from laughing so hard, what a gift to us all, can't wait to buy the book.
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm so excited for you! Since being about ten, I have always loved that scene at the end of 'Back to the Future' when everything's changed and his dad opens that package with twelve copies of his newly published book that have just arrived. It's every wannabe writer's dream!
ReplyDeleteI have a SSO question...
We have four kids but they're fairly close together in age, and although I'm part of a large exteneded family, we don't get invited round much! I think I only notice because my brother and his wife have two perfectly behaved girls and are always getting invited to go away for weekends with other family members and things like that. I try not to dwell on it too much - we made a decision to have a larger family and I'm happy with that, but sometimes it bugs me. Do you ever struggle with that too?
Your Book! Yea-a-a-a! ;)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
Love the cover on your book! You could go swimming in those clear blue eyes.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Dawn! It truly is an amazing thing to take something from an idea to a concept to hours (and hours and hours) of work to reality! I can't wait to get my copy. I'm checking Amazon.com now to see when I can get it!
ReplyDeleteSandy in Tucson

ReplyDeleteAnd wow, you really rate. The Fed Ex guy does not bring my Guideposts magazine! :-) I just got March and was looking through it for you, but then realized you are in next month's issue. Can't wait!
Is there a way to search your blog? Once upon a time, I think you linked to kids medical ID bracelets. I can't find that..but maybe it wasn't you...hmmmm
ReplyDeleteNevermind, I found how to search..but no luck. oh well, thanks anyway.
ReplyDeleteDude, you are livin' the dream! (Well, MY dream, anyway... I would love to be a published author!) Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteYeah! Congratulations Dawn! You've worked hard for this moment. I'm glad it really is a reality..and not just some crazy dream. I can't wait to get a copy of your book. = )

ReplyDeleteWow, Dawn, I'm going to mark this down on my calendar today. I *did* get excited the other day like I told about it on FB when it came up with a delivery date (baby?) of 4/7 and it hit me how soon that was. I couldn't help but joke a little on FB about checking out the author. It really has excited me at a time when I needed it, too.
ReplyDeleteBig congratulations on your receipt today!!
