I awoke this morning to Brooklyn breathing in my face. I cracked one eye open and lo and behold, there she was, a half inch from my face! Nothing like waking up to a giant pair of eyeballs to scare the crap outta you.
Brooklyn said, "Mama, do you have your ears peered?"
In my, "I haven't had coffee yet!" state, I had no clue what she was saying.
"Huh?" I croaked.
"Do you have your ears peered?"
"What are you talking about?" I asked, trying to shake the cobwebs from my head.
She sighed, exasperated at my obvious stupidity and spelled it out for me. "E G S T K!"
I was suddenly awake, cracking up at her spelling. "Ohhhh", I said. "Are my ears pierced?"
"Yes!" she squealed, happy that I finally understood her.
"You're silly, Brooklyn."
"No, you silly, Mama!"
That's better than an alarm clock any day. :)
LOL At least you didn't wake up to her trying to peered you ears, with a needle and potato. LOL
ReplyDeleteoh, Dawn. My first big laugh of the day. Thanks
ReplyDeleteF-G-Q-I-L-E
Thats adorable....love the spelling!
ReplyDeleteA-D-O-R-A-B-L-E!! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, thats a cutey story. Waking up to that adorable face, big eyes and morning breath all in one, lol.
ReplyDeleteReminded me of my son's way of waking me up (17 years ago). He'd come in at the crack of dawn and pry my eyes open with his little stubby fingers and then say "Sun's Up!". I am not a morning person at all but this always cracked me up.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing better. Even beats coffee!
ReplyDeleteLove Love that story.
ReplyDeleteWhen my middle son was little he would come in my room as soon as the sun was up and say "Mommy the sun's awake". I'm so not a morning person but how could I refuse a cute little face and voice when it's said like that?
She spells just swell!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! My 19 month old son sleeps with us (that wasn't the plan, but its the only way he'll sleep through the night). He woke me up at 4am the other day with a big slobbery kiss, said "hi Mommy - night night" then he laid back down and went back to sleep. No idea what that was about, but its the only time I actually smiled about being woken up at 4am!
ReplyDeleteoh what a lovely story! The wild ones are the cutest aren't they? Our 21 month old also sleeps in our bed - well at least from whenever she wakes at night which sometimes is only from 5 or 6am, and she does the cutest things too - like kiss us awake. Sometimes she'll even share her dreams, like saying "ahdis" (for Upsy Daisy from In the Nightgarden - do you know this programme in the US? Probably not, it's very charming and lovely). To be honest, there's nothing nicer than waking up with her (and sharing the one hour of her being not hyper) and though we never planned to co-sleep, admittedly we're enjoying it a lot.
ReplyDeletePeered ears are the best! Reminds me of a limerick I learned in grade school:
ReplyDelete"There was a young man who said "why? can't I look in my ear with my eye?
I'm sure I could do it if I set my mind to it.
You never can tell till you try!'"
Now why is it I can remember that but I can't remember where I laid my glasses? Oh, I turned 60 today, that's why! :)
I LOVE the spelling it out, that is so awesome!!!! lol
ReplyDeleteThank you for always being my daily doze of reality and laughter.
ReplyDeleteADORABLE!
ReplyDeleteOMG that is too funny (& familiar!)
ReplyDeleteThat is a cute story..I think she looks a lot like you..Beautiful family!!! I have small kids as well and there's nothing better than hearing their sweet voices first thing in the morning (before all the fighting and yelling starts) :0)
ReplyDeleteSo cute - especially the spelling. My now 5 year old sun went through a phase where he thought he was a dog. (3 year old daughter is there now.) He crawled into bed with me one morning and woke me up when he licked my face. Ick.
ReplyDeleteHow cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great wake up call! She sounds like a real live wire. :)
ReplyDeleteTOo cute
ReplyDeleteAnd *THAT'S* why we love 'em so, right? What a cutie! At least she didn't have underwear on her head (don't ask).
ReplyDeleteAwww. When our son was little I would wake up with him breathing in my face and he'd say "Get Up. I's stovin' haf to def." Always made me smile....even at 5:30 am.
ReplyDeleteAww what a cute story!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your new 'do. Bangs suit you!
I'm a Bare Escentuals Addict. Order the Buxoms from QVC in a kit, they're cheaper that way!
When we were stationed in NC, and living in base housing, our boys got the room that faced east. I'm not a morning person regardless of how much sleep I get or what time it is. My oldest (then 3, now 15) came in one morning as the sun rose, and cheerily said at a loud volume "Hi Mama!"
ReplyDelete"ugh, it's early, why are you awake?"
"cuz the sun's up!"
Of course. DUH. I learned he took everything I say literally at that moment. After having difficulty settling him down at night, I'd been telling him to stay in bed till the morning. He didn't comprehend "morning", so I tried to put it in 3 year old terms. It worked. He stayed in bed till the sun came up in the sky. Looking at his sleep habits now, I it wouldn't suprise me if he staked out the window to watch for the sunrise.
Well, she was staring at your ears, so I guess that makes them peered.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite parts of the day is when my 4-yr-old wakes up because he always comes and snuggles with me first thing.
ReplyDeleteAWWWWWW! How cute!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! Those are the moments you must love being a mom :)
ReplyDeleteWell dont leave us in suspense are your ears peered????????????
ReplyDeleteLove it, I'd take that wake up call any day!
ReplyDeleteYou've won an award! Come and get it.

My just-turned-four-years-old-today son loves to come into our room at 7:00 a.m. and say "the sun is on, get up" and then "can I watch TB?" (yes, a B). He knows you can only wake up adults with kisses.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day!
One sweet moment like that makes up for 50 bad times! Isn't motherhood the greatest?
ReplyDeleteWhere do we sign up for the "I Love Brooklyn Fan Club"????
ReplyDeleteShe's TOO cute!!
Donna in PA :)
that was cute. I just get a baby girl crawling up my legs roaring like a lion and a little boy who wants to hit me on the head. Fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI had pierced ears ntil I was pregnant for 2 years. The first tug by our first child--Well that was the end of that. Haven't worn earrings since and that was 16 years ago. I guess I am now too old to care. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteShe spells as well as I do. :)
