Take Some Notes (Heck, take ALL of them!)

This is a little notebook I carry in my purse. If I get a story idea, I jot it down because I can't remember anything these days. I make notes about chapters and such when I'm working on a book. I keep track of how many words I've written and how many more I need to write. I actually have several notebooks like this scattered around the house.

Anyway, tonight I pulled this particular little notebook out of my purse and I flipped through the first few pages...

Some notes and word counts...

more notes and numbers... looking for a blank page...

more scribbles and chapter notes...

Ahhhh, here we go. Apparently Clay got ahold of my notebook...

and Brooklyn did too...

"and this is you, Mama. And this is Daddy and he's getting stung by a jellyfish..."

still looking for a blank page to take notes...

...still searching. Looks like more jellyfish perhaps?

Oh look! Potato people! Still searching for blank page...

"Mom, this is you!" Brooklyn squealed. Beautiful. Are there ANY blank pages left?

"This is you too!" Yep, short and fat. That looks about right.

Oh yeah, still searching...

Nice. Think I can use any of these scribbles to help me write my next book?

Nice...

almost looks like a tracing of her hand...

Beautiful...

Seriously guys! Didn't you leave me ONE page???

Ugh!

That's great. Looks like I could use a new notebook.

...the last page. Looks like my calendar's full this year. Thank you Clayton and Brooklyn!

  2. It resembles the notebook I carry in my purse for notes in church. Most of the pages are very colorful scribbles. My 5 year old son did surprise me one Sunday with a page full of musical notes. It was a song just for me. Sweet.

  5. Adorable . . . future illustrators in the family !! Are you hiding the calendar for 2009? They kept you busy in 2007 & 2008, according to those calendars.

    Blessings,
    Gail

  6. That notebook looks very familiar...I think maybe I've seen it somewhere before...hhmmm.... oh yeah, at my house! That's what all of our notebooks look like too!!

  7. This makes me chuckle because just this morning I was looking for some computer paper and all I found was a bunch of papers that had drawings on them, some of them with a little tiny drawing. They ruined half a stack of paper.*lol* I can laugh about it now but I wasn't this morning :)

  10. Ha! This looks exactly like all of my notebooks! I am a math tutor, so I buy tons of those multi packs of spiral notebooks when they are on sale at the beginning of the school year (with the idea that I'll have enough for the entire school year). They're normally all filled up by, oh, October.

  11. That is hilarious. That is why you are so good... you write about stuff that people can relate to. I have two notebooks on my desk right now that look like that! (I work from home.) I occasionally have meetings, and this is when I discover I have no blank pages... it looks real professional when you are trying to find a blank page amongst all the scribble! ;o)

  12. When Tara was younger, I would find notebooks and blue line tablets all over the house like that! Isn't it fun!

  13. You mean you actually have a notebook??? My kids just take ownership as soon as there is any possibility of blank paper to write or scribble on, I think they can smell it! Oh, and my 5 year old is obsessed with envelopes, too. I get a lot of "mail".

    Cute doodles:).

  15. Dawn,

I try to keep an extra small notepad in my purse for those moments that my kids get the urge to draw all through out my notebook...it never seems to work...they like mine better. Why not....what's their's is their's, what's mine, is their's! ugh. i give up.

How's the second book coming along???

Love your blog. keep smiling and laughing and hopefully stay sane through it all?

  17. That dinosaur is pretty good, and it leads me to believe that maybe Clay and Brooklyn aren't the only culprits.

  18. Why weren't we told that nothing is ours anymore once we pop out the little munchkins?

  19. YEP!! you can have a whole chapter about where your kids draw and what.

  20. Hmm. I see at least two or three empty pages. Your standards are way too high. That or I'm just cheap enough to write around the drawings... ;)

  21. I think Brooklyn is about the same age as my 3.5 yo, as we have lots of potato people! I read some where that around age three, you add a quarter of a year for each body part a child can draw...so Brooklyn is at least four in intelligence years, lol!

  22. Well, I now see that my children are totally normal, just like yours. I have several little notebooks that look like that, LOL! Ever since I have been reading your blog and getting to know other parents, my self esteem has shot upwards to the stratosphere since I can now say with confidence that my household is as normal as everyone elses. My house, thankfully does not meet the show on Style Networks show "Clean House" so that is a guaranteed plus! Thank you, Dawn for making me feel normal! *hugs*

  23. I'm sure that happened to Tolstoy a lot. Jane Austen, too...

  24. LOL!! I thought you would find at least one page...oh well. Wait 'til they start borrowing your make-up and hair products!

Next time someone keeps looking at you, say "Are you looking at me?" in your meanest Robert De Niro voice!

    Have fun in Philly!

  25. Thanks Dawn for sharing your notebook!
I used to bring a notebook with me when my son was young to write down funny things he did or said I discontinued bringing it with me now that he is older. Your post has reminded me of how fast time goes by and how treasured those memories are. I think I will start carrying my notebook --although I can't let my son know --he would be completely emabarassed!!

  26. Has anyone else said that their handwriting looks just like yours? I looked at your notes and numbers and seriously thought you had somehow gotten ahold of one of my notebooks...that was before I saw the pictures. :) You and I have the exact same handwriting. Weird. Even though I switch mine up sometimes, I always come back to this style.

  27. I also carry a notebook in my purse so I can write down stuff and my daughter always seems to get ahold of it and "add" some of her artistic flair to my notes. :)

  28. At least is was on paper and not on the walls! =)

  29. I don't know how kids manage to find every clean notebook or clean page, no matter how well hidden. It just never fails! I swear kids can smell empty pages from miles away!
