It's been raining all night and all day here. Every street that leads out of my neighborhood is closed because of flooding. I think I may have to start gathering animals 2 by 2. Of course, the flooding by me is nothing compared to the flooding, damage and destruction in the Turks and Caicos, Bahamas, Cuba, Haiti, and Texas.
No, those pictures are not of a lake. That's a street. Or it was anyway.
I'm not sure if
THIS LINK will work or not, but it's pictures of Texas in the aftermath of Ike. It's pretty bad. Pray for those who have lost their homes and loved ones.
Don't forget Louisiana! Not only are we still trying to recover from Gustav but Ike hit us just as hard. Especially in West La. We didn't have a lot of flooding here in Baton Rouge but the wind damage from Gustav is beyond words. So many people here have trees IN thier homes. I was without power for 8 days. Just got it back this past Monday night only to have it go back out Friday as Ike passed below us. Thank goodness we got it back again this morning! Some people here are still without power from Sept. 1.
ReplyDeleteHope Ike doesnt bring more rain/flooding your way.
Oh yes! I didn't mean to leave out Louisiana or any other state affected by the hurricanes. I dream of moving to the ocean; someplace where it doesn't snow, but the thought of a hurricane really makes me think twice.
ReplyDeleteTrying to get to 294 today through Des Plaines was impossible. What normally takes 5-7 minutes took 45. All we need is another storm like last year. The rain just keeps coming!
ReplyDeleteWe will get a less severe version of Ike tomorrow. Our house is on high ground, but we are situated within 20 miles of the Mississippi and the Missouri Rivers. Some here will lose electricity, but hopefully not for long.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to pray for anyone near the Gulf Coast and beyond. God Bless and keep all of you!
Looks like here last year. I ran around with a tiara on telling everyone I was a princess. Cause I had a moat.
ReplyDeleteHope the water subsides soon.
Wow, those pictures are amazing. Luckily I've never had to experience anything like that. My prayers go out to everyone who has been affected by the storms.
ReplyDeleteI'm in Mansfield, Louisiana and we did not get hit too badly but Cameron and Calcasieu Parishes have taken hits repeatedly and those people are troopers. They go about their business, suck up their losses and take care of each other. Never complain, never bitch about shelters or who's coming to get them. America's best.
ReplyDeleteWow. All of those in the hurricane's path are in my prayers. It sure makes me glad I live in AZ. I'm quite happy to bear the 120 degree heat in silence.

We had it bad here too. I'm in NW suburbs of Chicago. It was awful. 10 inches total and 5-6 more tomorrow. Then the water in our basement started. So not fun. I hope you all stay dry tomorrow. And of course prayers for all of those affected by the hurricanes. :-(
ReplyDeletethis is what haiti looks like....

pray for Haiti..the devastation is Huge
Yes, the link worked. I didn't have time for all 500 photos. But looked long enough to see that Reliant Stadium wasn't very reliant.
ReplyDeleteYou want to live near the ocean where it doesn't snow? You're describing my home town girl! Come on down, or up, or over... just head northwest. Okay?
P.S. No hurricanes!!!!
ReplyDeleteGosh that is just terrible I really hope that things look up soon.
ReplyDeleteTo lighten you mood a little here is a video of parenting advice ;)

And the rain hasn't stopped here yet either :( Good thoughts and prayers to you Dawn and to everyone affected by this storm
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Louisiana! We are still recovering from Gustav here in Baton Rouge. While Ike didnt't hit us, SW Louisiana was hit HARD. I know people tend to look at the big cities..Houston, New Orleans, but there is a lot of devestation here in LA.
ReplyDeleteI DO feel sorry for the people in Texas...I KNOW what they are going through.
WOW
ReplyDeleteBefore message boards and blogs, I would watch the news and whatever was happening elsewhere stayed with me about as long as a sound bite.
ReplyDeleteAfter a few years of internet friendships on forums and blogs, I now think of families who live in areas that make headlines and the personal connection (even if the only name I know is something like Pookie's Mom)weighs on my heart and mind much differently.
Best wishes to everyone.
Hi Dawn! Just wanted to let you know I'm from Galveston (where Ike made landfall) and we live(d?) on 57th street. A friend had to ride out the storm and he said he couldn't get past 56th because of water. So, I want to ask everyone to pray that my four children and I have a home to go home to! Thanks!!

OH! I can't imagine having to deal with that loss and devestation. Just awful.
ReplyDeleteIt's situations like that that make you realize how fortunate we are, isn't it? And, also makes me realize that maybe my problems aren't so bad....
I'm so sorry for what's happening in our states. Fires, floods, rain, storm etc ..what is going on?
ReplyDeleteMy prayers and blessings to be strong. Our basement filled almost to the top four years ago and I still have nightmares wondering if it will ever happen again.

It's impressive, isn't it? Nics pics of it. I didn't take any, as I was afraid to get my camera wet when I went to go sit outside in the rain for 4 hours at the Northwestern game. I missed some great opportunities.
ReplyDeleteBut did you read about the guy in Rolling Meadows drowning in the soccer field? I'm not going wading in any flooded areas anytime soon!
HIyas Dawn! Doing my MOnday morning catch up:)
ReplyDeleteThank goodness I'm not in a part of Texas that is flooded, but soun of me it sure is!
Looking at your flood photos I'm reminded of pics I saw when I was about 4-5 yo, we had a flood, ( I lived in Oak Lawn), and our front yard looked like a lake, and I have a pic of my dad holding me, and he had on hip waders!
Hope you survive with all the kids home again!
I'm in Aurora, and our subdivision briefly flooded for about 7 hours yesterday - water stopped about 100 ft. from our house, thankfully. Once they got the pumping station working in our subdivision, the water receded. My hubby was able to get out and get to Woodman's about 9:30 last night - only had to get around a couple places on my way to work in Palatine this morning. We were VERY fortunate - and my thoughts are with those who are still battling these waters, no matter where they are.
ReplyDeleteI am from Houston and I have been without power since last Friday night. I am currently staying in a hotel in Dallas but heading back tomorrow to probably no power but must report to work Monday power or not since work has power. The pictures are just as bad as it looks and it is pure craziness down there. I miss the normal everyday and will be glad when its back. Thanks for you blog Dawn it's nice to have a place to go to have a giggle in all this.
