Jackson's birthday cake
Coconut Jack's Surf Shack
(an island favorite for 10 years)
Nice coconut bra, Jax
crickets. Actual crickets. Real, honest-to-goodness crickets. Bacon/cheese flavored crickets. Joe, Austin, Max, and Sean all ate one. Ewwww! Thanks Uncle Sam for that umm,
His present was in the coconut! They broke it apart, put the gift card in, and glued it back together. LOL!
REALLY cute cake and it looks like such a fun birthday. Tell him to eat a bug for me!
ReplyDeleteYOU ARE AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteSo, when are you headed to MD to put your cake brain together with ACE OF CAKES, Duff?
That would be hysterical!
OMG!! I LOVE your cake! Did you do that yourself? You are so incredibly talented (or who ever did it is!) That is the cutest idea ever! I know I do not know you BUT... Happy Birthday Jax! :o)
ReplyDeleteJenn
You are so talented!!! Great Cake!
ReplyDeleteI love the cake, it looks awesome. Dunno about the crickets though. On the other hand, bacon makes anything taste good.
ReplyDeleteDo you really have a Pear laptop just like iCarly?
Did you make that cake? If so, you did an OUTSTANDING job!! It is so CUTE er.. manly. LOL
ReplyDeleteYou had a beautiful day for a party too. Hope you all had fun!! Thanks for sharing the pictures. :)
Loooove the cake...
ReplyDeleteSo?? did they like the crickets?? Not sure if it's something I would ever what to try... I think it's a fun gift idea for a young boy though... My son would think it was the coolest thing ever...
I wonder if Jackson was hoping for a package of pokemon cards? Just wondering. :) Happy birthday! You mom made a great cake!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the cake, and if you say you made that yourself, I think I may have to throw up.
ReplyDeleteOh oh oh! And I'm the first commentor - does that deserve some sort of prize? :-)
Holy moly! Did YOU make that cake?? It's amazing!
ReplyDeleteWow. Jax looks JUST like you, Dawn. Cute kid. Okay...what did you use for the thatched roof on the cake? It's adorable! I can't even smear icing on in the normal fashion so it looks good...lol.
ReplyDeleteJohn the Baptist ate the locust! Couldn't you have just nibbled down one little cricket? And a bacon and cheese flavored one at that. Bacon and cheese makes EVERYTHING taste good!
ReplyDeleteDo your kids actually have an uncle named Sam, or did Jackson get those crickets from the United States Government?
ReplyDeleteSerious cake envy going on here...
ReplyDeleteYour cakes are absolutely amazing! And how you have time to do them and still get everything done is even more amazing. Kudos to whoever came up with the coconut gift wrap idea.... I'll remember that one when I'm thinking of a unique way to wrap a gift in the future. Thanks Dawn!!!
ReplyDeleteRhonda
What an AWESOME cake, Dawn!!! Did you have a pattern for this one or did you just make it up? You really should give lessons -- ever consider it? I just might fly from California to attend one!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Happy birthday, Jackson!
Get thee behind me satan!!!
ReplyDeleteK that wasn't very nice but dang, you put the rest of us to shame...or just me, that might be more like it.
I just did cakes for my twins party today & they were p.a.t.h.e.t.i.c. compared to yours.
*sigh*
Awesome cake girl, I admire your talents!!
Good Lord!! ALL your kids look like you!
ReplyDeleteWhat part did Joe play? errr.... never mind.
The cake is AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteWhat flavor? ......... god, I'm hungry!
That cake is incredible!! Looks like a great time was had by all!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable cake!!!! You're so creative. Man, someday when your kids are grown and gone, you could make a lot of money at this! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat cake looks so amazing! I hope Jackson had a good birthday!
ReplyDeleteLooks great fun - I am so jealous of your baking skills by the way.
ReplyDeleteAwesome cake, Dawn! Very worthy entry on the Food Network when the chefs have those cake contests! My goodness, what would you charge for a cake like that? Priceless...
ReplyDeletePeggy
wow, my kids are no way seeing that CAKE~! I made one this weekend too. It's totally from scratch, with homemade frosting, which is quite enough for me~! No themes, no cute designs, just a round cake with frosting, but it's gone already, hehe.
ReplyDeleteYou are freakin' amazing with those cakes of yours! I hope your kids realize how much time and love go into each of those cakes for them! Seriously, when do you find the time? I have 4 kids and 1 dog and 1 husband and I don't even cook dinner...my husband does that!
ReplyDeleteHaPpY BiRtHdAy Jackson !!!!
ReplyDeleteThis cake is Absolutley Spectacular!!! ...
This is by far the best cake I have ever seen!! You really should send the pics to Ace & crew...
It must have taken hours to do, especially the 'straw' roof !!
Was it your own design?
Dawn, you are Amazing, and not just as a cake decorator, but as a mom!
Not only are you Blessed with such a beautiful family - They are Blessed to have you as thier mother, and I know as they grow older each one of them will know this!

Love,Love, LOVE what you do & how you do it is beyond me...
May God continue to Bless You & yours & Keep you bringing smiles, laughs & tears to us all!

People in your family are wwwaaayyy too creative! One of my goals in life is to be able to decorate a cake even a little like that someday. It is awesome!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Jackson!
Wow Dawn, that is a great cake! I love all your cakes you make, you should do it professionally. You know in your free time that you have from 1 am to 6 am when you are suppose to be sleeping! LOL andyway, great cake!
ReplyDeleteWow what a fabulous cake!! It's almost too pretty to eat!! :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for August birthdays! Leos rock -- my b-day is next week.
That is an impressive cake! How long did it take you to make?
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely the most amazing person I have the pleasure of being able to write. That ckae is incredible. I do cupcakes and tapioca pudding really well. But that is about it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Jackson! Behave for your momma. She deserves a break every day or so.
Awesome cake! Cute bra!
ReplyDeleteWow love the cake Dawn! Once again you've outdone yourself. And whoa does Jackson ever look like u! You definately can't deny his parentage! He's a cutie. Love that Brooklyn had to be right down there with him checkin stuff out:))
ReplyDeleteHoly cake, woman! I can't believe how much older Jackson looks that when I saw him almost a year ago.
ReplyDeleteDamn kids growing up...
You are so very talented! I love the cake...I'm all about beach motif and coconuts are my favorite! My Mom always made me beautiful cakes and I still remember them all. I've made one for my son so far...a castle cake and he loved it.
ReplyDeleteI'm inspired to do it again. :)
the crickets are too funny. i would never have the guts to eat one. way too creepy. but i'm kinda squeamish (sp?) about what i put in my mouth - a good quirk to have, i would think... i have a question for you. how long does it take to put 6 kids to bed at night? i have half as many and i swear i spend half my life putting kids to bed? are you a "shut up and go to sleep" kind of mom? or do you do the whole shebang with stories and songs and tucking in and all that junk? my mom did all that when i was a kid and i feel kind of guilty if i do a "just go to sleep" night with my kids. however, to my mom's discredit, she only had 2 kids and my brother was 13 when i was born. still... i think my kids are spoiled at bedtime and i'd really REALLY like to have more than 5 minutes of adult time at night before i go to bed. any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteWhat a FUN birthday! LOVE that gorgeous cake!
ReplyDeleteWow! Jackson really looks a lot like you! I had never noticed before....
Have you ever considered setting up a website (or it could be another blog) for your cakes? I will tell you from experience that people (I) will (have) pay (paid) A LOT of money for cakes like you make. Birthday parties, Groom's cakes, Anniversaries; the possibilities are endless. Your hobby could make you lots-a money and you already have a market built up, lol!
ReplyDeleteHanging my head in the For Shame, FOR SHAME, kind of way while I reflect on my son's last Store Bought Cake,
Whitney
PS, I'll back you up all the way on the passing-on-eating-bugs thing. I told my husband if I ever survived a plane crash over the jungle to take me out upon landing because I'd rather that than starving to death, and Seriously?, I would rather starve than eat bugs.
another great example of your cake talent!!! wow!
ReplyDeletefranzi
Happy birthday Jackson!! Awesome cake Dawn! You continue to amaze me!! Looks like everyone had a great day!
ReplyDeleteRockin' cake!
ReplyDeleteQuick question...what did you use to make the spherical shaped thingy in front of the hut? My almost-7-year-old wants a cake that depicts the scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark where the huge, round, boulder is rolling down out of the cave at Indiana Jones, and I'm trying to figure out how to do a small, absolutely round boulder. I thought of two small pyrex bowl-shaped cakes glued together with frosting, but if you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

That cake is fantastically awesome! You are so talented. Way to go, Supermom! And your kids are so cute. Happy birthday, Jackson!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Jackson!!!
ReplyDeleteWe had a birthday party for my daughter yesterday and my cake was WAAAAAY sad compared to yours! Great job, Dawn!
Where does one go to buy bacon/cheese flavored crickets? Just curious!
Donna in PA :)
You make the greatest cakes. And ditto the above that Jax looks just like you. He's a cutie.
ReplyDeleteAs for the crickets... No. Just, no.

Seriously, when do you find the time to make such awesome cakes? 2am?? You did it again. Your awesomeness doubled in my book! Great job! (oh yeah, and happy birthday to Jax)
ReplyDeleteIs all that cake actually cake? It looks huge!! I bet there were plenty of willing little teeth to chomp it all up!
ReplyDeleteHope Jackson had a wonderful birthday, and hope you got a chance to enjoy the party too.
My first two children had awesome homemade birthday cakes
ReplyDeletefor their first couple of birthdays. But after having 8 children
in 10 years, I admit it -
my 11 year old makes all the cakes now! :D

I love making birthday cakes!! My 3rd son Alex turned 10 on August 16th as well
ReplyDeleteMichelle (also mom to 6 maniacs err kids)
Way cool cake, Dawn. I'm so impressed at all of it, but particularly awe-inspiring is your neat lettering of icing on the side of the cake! I'm definitely heading to Harper once both the wee ones are in school!
ReplyDeleteAnd you've got some totally cool relatives. Gotta love having and uncle like that -- you know you're loved when your uncle hides bacon cheese (really?) flavored crickets inside a glued together coconut. I LOVE it! (And yes, different Michelle from above -- I only have 2)
