Do You Know Your Shapes?

My friend, Jane, sent this to me with the caption, "This is why you don't buy school supplies at the dollar store." LOL!

Revised to add this note.....
I got an email about this family who recently lost several members in a car wreck involving a drunk driver. People have gotten together and placed several auctions on eBay to help raise money for the family. Check them out when you get a minute.

  1. Oh that's funny. What's funnier is that I had to really look that over to figure out what was wrong with it!

  2. Sadly enough, I will admit that just after midnight, I was not quite on my 'game' and it took me a few to figure this out! Sad isnt it? Hey, I just shopped with three kids, and a husband that pouted through the whole ordeal, for what seemed like four hours, trying on clothes for myself and trying to fight the kids into realizing you cant just pick a size....you HAVE to try it on...

Thats my story, and I am sticking to it.

    xoxo

  4. Ah-hem -- lol. I wouldn't STOP for that Octagon at all.

Goodness I wonder how many they sold and no one realized it??

  5. LOL that is great! My husband didn't even catch the mistake...lol

  6. ROFLOL It took me a sec to see it! You should send that in to Jay Leno for his "Headlines" segment!

  7. Too Funny! I had to take a double take at it - my brain does funny things sometimes - yes, it only has 6 sides - a hexagon!

Thanks for sharing this funny educational note!

  8. That is too funny! I bought a book at Christmas time for my daughter at Walmart and the alphabet was in the wrong order. I didnt think that would really help her to learn.

  9. The teacher in me is horrified! I'm hoping you all know that is a hexagon and not an octagon.

  10. Was it made in China? Please tell me it wasn't made in the US!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ha! I'll bet there'll be several who don't see a thing wrong with that picture. After all, it is red, like a stop sign! That's close enough, isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  12. That is hysterical! The sad part, though, is how many people would never even notice!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hahahaha! LOL!!!

This is one of those times when we passed the laptop around and we all had a good laugh. Thanks!

  14. LOL! I saw the error right away, too funny!

  15. Ummmmmmmmm HEXAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    That's hysterical!!!!

How do things like this get passed Quality Control?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well it is red. A stop sign is red. A stop sign is also an octagon. So this red shape MUST be an octagon.

I think someone needed a better tutor growing up.

  17. What? The heart is not suppose to be pink - right?

  19. Ahem. It took me a second and then I saw it.

Excuse me Octogon? Dude. Send it into to Jay Leno. PLEASE.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh my! Hexagon is quite different from an octagon.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Better be careful. Some people may not notice anything wrong. tee hee

  22. OOhhhhh! First comment!
LoL! That is too funny! Did she really buy that?

    ReplyDelete
  23. haha, it took me a second, but I got it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hmm....

I wonder if my kids would spot the problem?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I started counting sides the moment I read your post. What else could have been wrong? Your comments are ALMOST as good as your posts. I love your readers...of course, I am one of your readers so that totally makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's worrying that it actually made it onto the shop floor with no-one noticing! Even my 10 year old spotted the mistake!

    ReplyDelete
  27. i STILL couldnt fathom out exactly what was wrong with it until i read the comments lol. oops!

    ReplyDelete
  28. LOL!! The stuff I buy at the dollar store is like paper and pencils. I never saw that shape thing, but you gotta wonder sometimes.
There is a very popular nationwide chain drugstore not too far from my house that has an advertising sign out front
VITAMINES - BUY ONE GET ONE FREE!!!

My husband caught the sign and said hey honey what are vitamines? lets go get some !! HAHA ( he was kidding of course)

  29. Thank goodness for your comments - I caught that it was a 6-sided Octagon right away, but for the life of me could only come up with SEX-agon as the name for it. I was pretty sure they didn't teach me that one in school!

  30. That's one way to "edumacate" are children! Ha Ha!

  31. I am glad you added the little update. That was a most tragic event. I was actually not to far away on the intersecting freeway. As we were getting close we could hear all the truckers on the CB. It was horrible. This mother and her 4 beautiful babies gone from this world because someone got real stupid.

  32. Years ago I bought my kids a poster for their room that had a happy bumblebee and the caption "bee happy."

It took awhile to realize the bee had eight legs.

    ReplyDelete
  33. My eight year old twins are laughing at this. Sad. :)

  34. I agree--send it to Jay Leno! He does a 99cent store items segment. Maybe a dollar store item would qualify!

  35. Hi Dawn,
My name is Fernando. I'm an advertising student and my next project is the dodge caravan. My concept is:
"There has to be something good about having kids".
The idea is to show (in a funny way) the reality about having kids. That -unlike diaper commercials- little flowers don't come out flying when you are changing your baby's diaper. What I'm trying to get across is that even going thru all the stuff you have to go thru when having kids, it is worth it because having kids gives you the excuse to own this van. I would love to send you the stuff that i have so far, and (if you have time), let me know how "true" it sounds. If you're interested, my email is elmasfregon@gmail.com
    Thank you and keep writing.

  37. I was very touched by your links of the tragic accident involving the family killed by a drunk driver. So sad.

  38. To all the curious...I shop with half of what Dawn shops with, however half of 6 still equals distraction. I saw it, 'Oh shapes!', it was cheap, it was cute, it went in the cart. I did notice the mistake as soon as I got home. I'm not taking it back, that's what sharpies are for. :)

  39. As a mother and a member of online communities I know you will take the time to read this terrible story and pray for baby Andy. I've been a member of Pregnancy Weekly since August 2005. Barb's son Andy and my son Alden were both born April 06. We actually met them in person at a weekend meetup in Chicago where 10 moms and 10 babies all flew to put some faces to names and past. Andy has always been a healthy little boy until recently. He is now in the PICU holding on to life and we still don't know why.

Here is the original post from Friday

    and Andy's update on Saturday

Please ask your readers to pray for baby Andy and his family!!!

  40. My fear is how many people will not realize it....so sad, but totally probable.
I have added you to my Magnificent Mamas blogroll today, and thank you for posting about the family.

    ReplyDelete
  41. LOL! That's great and I was with a lot of you--I turned to my husband and asked, "Hey, Love, what's a shape with six sides called?"

My favorite shape story... In our schools it's incorrect to call a diamond a diamond--it has to be called a rhombus. Once I heard a child singing "Twinkle, twinkle little star, like a rhombus in the sky."

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ok. I figured it out pretty quickly, but I waited to comment until my 17 year old son was around. I showed him and two of his friends the picture and my son noticed it right away! The other boys were oblivious. I'm so proud! LOL

  43. It just became clearly apparent to me JUST how tired I am today, because at first glance at that photo, I didn't get it. I read each shape name through three times, slowly, before I started counting the sides of the "octagon". Now THAT'S what I call brain dead!!!

  44. Seeing that makes me want to go the the dollar store and see if they have it.

My husband went to high school with Danny Griffin. It is a very sad story. If I had the money, i would buy some of the stuff on ebay to help the family. My heart goes out to Beth & Angels. God Bless them!

  45. Did you see the news about Jullian?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ugh, I'm really annoyed because I think blogger ate my clever comment about me being dumb that I couldn't figure out what was wrong with the school supply shape thingy.

You might not have received it.

But, on another note. I have to have lunch with you more often, WITH WINE, DESSERT AND BREAD... i lost 2.2 POUNDS THIS WEEK!!! yay!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. So sorry to just read about Julian! I feel as if I had known him personally.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Dawn, I am a regular reader of your blog and a follower of Julian's carepages. I am not sure if you have had a chance to check Julian's page today, please go.

  49. Mimi's little King, Julian passed away tonight, January 19.

I piece of my heart has broken off and one off with this beautiful little angel.

    ReplyDelete
  50. King Julian isn't suffering anymore. My heart goes out to his family, the ache must be immeasurable.

Thank you Dawn for helping us get to know Julian and his family. Every day he has served as a reminder to love my 8 babies a little bit more, and to make extra sure that they know it.

  51. And you wonder why it was at the Dollar Store? Sadly...not sure its worth that! Maybe there's still a Five and Dime still around that could sell it.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh that is sad. The sad part is that most people wont even notice it, heck it took me a second to notice it too. I agree with the person that said send it to Jay Leno for his 'headlines' section. However, wonder how many laughs he'd really get from his audience, they aren't always the brightest bulb in the box.

    ReplyDelete
  53. HA! My (7 year old) son spotted a halloween decoration this past Halloween in the dollar store that said 'Happy Haeeowlln' no lie.
