I'm Off!

I took care of a lot of things on my list today. In fact, after I did something that wasn't on my list, I wrote it down just so I could cross it off and feel like I'd accomplished even more!

My daughter got her braces on today. They put red and green rubber bands on them so she now has Christmas teeth. Oh Christmas teeth, oh Christmas teeth...

I remember when I was a kid it was not cool to have braces. Now my daughter, all her friends, and all my Sunday school kids want braces. "You're getting braces! Cool! No fair! I want braces too!" It's very strange.

Michelle's auction to benefit Julian and his family ends tomorrow at 9:30am central. Right now, the auction is up to $265.00! Michelle has also collected $1,275.93 for Julian from the Paypal button on her blog!!! Go Michelle! This was an awesome idea and I'm so glad to see so many people who have been touched by Julian's story.

See you in New York!

  1. I do the list thing ALL the time! I just love the feeling of crossing things off my list. There is a really funny ABC Family movie about that called Lucky 7. You should check it out sometime. Super cute chick flick.

    Have fun in NY!

  3. Have fun in the big city! My son also had braces and didn't even mind having them, although he was nervous at first because he thought his friends would make fun of him---Quite the opposite actually!

  4. Well I just finished reading Julians update on his carepage so I needed your laugh! "Oh Christmas teeth, Oh Christmas teeth....." I almost spit my pepsi on my laptop.....which would be horrible because my pepsi is very important to me and not to be wasted!

    Thanks for the laugh!

  6. My eldest just got braces too, desperate to get them because they were 'cool'. Now he has them it isn't quite as 'comfortably' cool as he thought. Poor thing he can hardly speak as they are the ones that attach to both top and bottom and have to be worn 24/7 almost!

    Hope you got everything done!

  11. I cried when I had to get braces and got Invisaligners. Hah.

I love the list thing. It's what I do- I have to be organized all the time. My lists are on post-its which are subsequently spread all over our home. It's like a Pavlovian reflex- whenever I see something bright pink out of the corner of my eye I stray towards it to read what I'm supposed to do at the moment.

I hope you enjoy NYC- it's the coolest city in the world!

  12. I was a strange child. I always wanted braces AND glasses. All the cool kids I knew had them. I never got braces, and I am *just now* at 38 starting to need reading glasses from too much computer.

  13. Have a wonderful trip! You get to go ALONE - na, na, na, na, na!

OK question: WHO watches the kids while you are gone?

And yes BRACES are now the IT accessory! Kids LOVE them.

I'm glad you got a lot done and I put things back on a list if they weren't on just to earn that checkmark!

Can't wait to hear all about the Big Apple!

When I was a kid I wanted braces AND glasses...I never needed either one. I think I just wanted the attention. How sad is that?!?! LOL

  16. Yeah what is UP with that? My 11 year old is dieing to get braces too. The DM said its a pure cosmetic thing if she gets them as her teeth are in really good shape.

    Congrats on your to-do list!

  20. Hey Dawn, enjoy New York! I live in NY...I'm sure you will be far too busy to meet a fan, but I will think of you this week! I hope you enjoy our city, it really is lovely despite its reputation.

  21. I add things to my Grocery list and cross them off so that I can buy them. I won't let myself buy something if it's not on the list, so I have to add it! My boss thinks that I'm nutso for doing it, so it's good to know that I'm not the only one...

    Have a great trip!

  22. Braces...

Make sure she has A LOT of soft food to eat for the first few days... Every time they tighten them the braces her teeth will hurt her; (a delayed onset for the pain, about three hours later.) Also, make sure you pick up the wax they give you... it does help from rubbing on the side of her mouth.

I had 'Christmas Teeth' too... And Valentines, and 4th of July, and Halloween! ;) They called me Rainbow Brite in school because of my braces. :)

  23. Oh, I do that wiht my list, too. Hey, if you have a list, you might as well make it impressive! Nothing boosts me more than looking over how much I've gotten done! Nothing seems to be crossed off yet this morning--in fact I don't even have a list. Thanks for reminding me how much I have to do. Bleagh.

  24. That "braces are popular" thing certainly is a switch from when I was growing up...

  25. Indeed, its very strange that kids nowadays thinks that having braces is a fashion.

I really have no idea how they can come to that conclusion...isn't painful to some extend, and they feel 'pain' as a fashion???

my friend's daughter had her braces on too and she requested to have all 5 different rubber colours!!!

    poor dentist!

  26. Hey Dawn, I have my own crazy bunch at my home with 7 children ages 3 to 15! I started a blog awhile back and then had the fun of finding yours. I only blog about once a week or less, though!

Anyway, someone tagged me and I am supposed to tag 6 people, and I only know 5 other people that have blogs, so I decided to put you as #6. Check out my blog and you'll see what it's all about! ENJOY! And happy parenting! I know how it is!!

  30. I went to NYC for my honeymoon. Strange I know but it's somewhere my hubby and I had never been and always wanted to go. If you get time you MUST see Tony and Tina's Wedding (it's a musical/play/comedy) absolutely wonderful.

  31. You are a classic type J on the Meyers-Briggs personality test! so am I; I love writing things I've always done on my To Do list. I like the sense of accomplishment that all the finished items gives me and makes me feel like I really DID get something done between cleaning up kid messes and dealing with their squabbles.

  32. I used to assist my husband in our carpet cleaning company, and became somewhat knowledgible re: stain removal - rubbing alcohol removes most ink from most types of fiber, however leaves a ring so it's best to flush the area with water after the alcohol treatment and use an old towel or rags to absorb the excess moisture (I folded the towel and laid it over the spot and stood on the towel and pretended to stomp grapes - let my weight do the work of a wringer). For furniture cushions, same process, then lay cushion on clean floor and stomp away.

  33. Have you have wondered what would've happened if ur son didn't throw in those pokemom cards in ur cart? LOL I mean, u wouldn't have all this fame if it wasn't for him. Well, I mean no one would've seen ur blog. I've been a reader since the ebay thing. first time commenting today! =) anyway. Just want to thank your kids because if they didn't sneak stuff in your cart, I wouldn't be reading ur hilarious blog everyday! =) happy holidays!

  34. I had the red and green bands too, and red and pink for Valentine's Day...etc.

Just DON'T let her get yellow! It makes your teeth look yellow and gross! I learned that one quickly...

    :D

  35. I hear you on the switch- everyone wants glasses now too. I suppose that's good- we must be doing something right as parents if the teasing and stigma that went along with these things is gone. :)

  36. Oh Wow! What an incredible opportunity to get AWAY! *envy sprinkles!*

You mentioned writing something you'd done that wasn't on your list, even though it was already accomplished! I do that, but at the end of the day! It's so much more fullfilling to know that you really DID accomplish a lot, even if the house doesn't look like it!

Of course there's a list to start the day, but I always forget the mundane or unexpected things like "put away dishes before you can wash the next load," " desperately scrub the sharpie marker off couch, give up and cover with throw pillow," and "run after giggling snot nosed toddler with a tissue for 10 minutes!"

Maybe a Sunday question: What's a typical day in the life of a mom of 6? I can only guess it's like being in a day in the life of a mum of 4, but with 2 extra kids' worth of laundry. Maybe a little less work, since your older children can help? *fingers crossed for luck:* HAVE you figured that one out? I joke about the "had children for slave labor" thing, but haven't found their "obey my command" switches yet!

    Right on, write on!
    Happy Trip Home Sprinkles!!!
