I awoke this morning to the sound something crashing. I jumped out of bed and as I headed toward the family room, I could hear my middle son laughing hysterically.
"What are you doing in here? What did you throw?" I demanded.
"Baby," came his one word answer.
"Baby?" I rubbed my eyes and tried to clear my head. The baby did it? He threw the baby? Wait - the baby's still sleeping. What is he saying? I think to myself that I really should take time to brew a pot of coffee before continuing with this line of questioning.
After interrogating him, I learned that he and my oldest son who had just escaped out the door to walk to school with his friends, had been whipping my daughter's baby doll across the house at each other. What a great idea, boys! In their game of catch, actually scratch that. In their game of Let's See if I Can Maim my Brother by Knocking Him Unconscious With a Doll Who Blinks, Drinks and Wets, they managed to knock over a large vase of flowers sitting on the kitchen table. Water was now dripping off the edge of the table and onto the floor. Water was dripping between the leaves in the table and onto the chairs.
Although I'd be ticked if they did this any time, I was especially irate because I don't do mornings. I loathe waking up to screaming, fighting, arguing, and flying dolls.
Fast forward. The oldest four are at school. The youngest two have been fed. I put a movie on for them (because I'm a bad mom that way) and came in my room to do a little writing. Approximately three seconds later, I saw the three year old go skating past my bedroom door on a couple of plastic plates. Why not, right? He cracked one of the plates. My Tupperware supply is dwindling thanks to stunts like this. I had him toss it into the recycling bin while I explained that plates are not skates. There's a Dr. Seussish book for ya! Mom says plates are not skates. Don't put them on your feet. Don't scoot across the street. Don't strap them to your shoes or you'll fall and get a bruise. Plates are not skates.
Anyway, you wanna know why I had a vase of flowers on the table to begin with? Because my husband brought them to me! Know why he gave them to me? Because a publisher made me an offer and I accepted!!! Or well, my agent accepted. Or my agent brought the offer to me and we both said, "Oh yeah!"
I'm so excited to be working with Guideposts in publishing my first AND my second books! The first one will be coming out in the fall of 2008! These folks have some really fun marketing ideas for the book and I can't wait to share them with you guys!
Hooray! It's official now! I'm getting my book published!
Am I first? could I possibly be first? Yay, I'm first!!! luv ya blog.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could get your son some carpet skates?

That's so awesome you got a publisher! yay! Those are very pretty flowers. I am not a morning person either and waking up to crashes does not help :P
ReplyDeleteThat is great Dawn. I am so happy for you. You totally deserve it.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! It's much easier to write knowing that you are definitely being paid for it. Go, go, go!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, again! The roses - very cool - you did good Joe!! I can't wait, Dawn!
ReplyDeleteYeah for you!! You're a hoot and you've made me laugh and cry, so you have my vote!
ReplyDeletecongrats on all your sucess, No Sucsess, No, success, ummm Yes!!! Success. I can't wait to read more adventures in Motherhood throught the groggy eyes of a totally not morning person with 6 very active, imaginative, creative children!
ReplyDeleteAt least you can ask your kids what caused the crash, and they can give you an explanation, such as it was. I have to try to get an answer out of my dogs and cat.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting a publisher! I look forward to your book, and I'm recommending it to lots of people.
Congrats on the book deal!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I just love your Dr. Suessish poem!!!
Wow, flowers and an accepted offer, look at you go!!
ReplyDeleteNow we can all say we knew you before you were a publish author.
Good job!!
Yippeeee!!!!!!! Congrats!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWait... You were asleep and your kids were leaving for school? I have 6 kids, also, but I am up at 5:30 and leaving the house with the oldest between 5:45 and 6:10, depending on if he has church or basketball that morning. I wanna trade!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the book deal, sorry about the tupperware.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait til I can read them!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! The book will be awesome - I just know it. Sorry about your flowers! I've been trying to convince my husband for two years (we just celebrated our 2 year anniversary...) that flowers make great gifts. You just proved HIS point - flowers don't last. So...I'm the lucky collector of crystal figurines - crystal doesn't go out with the yard waste!
ReplyDeleteCongratulation, Dawn! The flower are beautiful. Can't wait to read your book. It will be long 10 months or so, I think it takes less time to carry a baby to term, but I am determined to be patient. Again, congratulations!
ReplyDeleteWell, thank goodness you got a picture of the flowers before they got destroyed! Good shot! I mean of the flowers, not good shot to the boys! ;-)
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!! Can't wait to read your first book
ReplyDeleteI'm not a mom yet, but I just love reading your blog, and hearing your thoughts on motherhood and the like. I can't wait for your book(s) either. I've been a lurker for a while, but never brave enough to comment. Thanks for sharing your life with so many people.
ReplyDeleteYay!! So glad to hear you've got a publisher!! Wow, I think I hate you a little bit. lol Nevermind, just remembered you have six children...back to "so glad you are you and I'm not" LOL If things get loud enough, maybe Tupperware will hear this and send you a massive supply? Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteWOO_HOO! YIPEE!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the real DEAL! I hope you get a chance to go out and celebrate with some champagne or something you really enjoy! (Like peace and quiet?)
I laughed out loud at this one for two reasons.
1. I remember my brothers HURLING my dolls across the room.
2. I remember being the one on the PLATES!
Thanks for making me chuckle, as per usual, when I read your posts.
In some strange way it is like watching your best friend "hit it big!" You've been so great at sharing this journey with all of us. :)
I will wait...patiently...for 2008. And HEY - two books? DOUBLE WOW!
:)
Congratulations! Lovely flowers
ReplyDeleteHi Dawn,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Best of luck with both of your books, couldn't be happier for you and your family!
Congratulations!! And GUIDEPOSTS!!! WOOHOO!
ReplyDeleteI love Guideposts! Congratulations. Sorry your morning was so exasperating. I can't imagine my one x 6. Looking forward to the book. Been lurking your blog for a couple of months now!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! That's great news!!! Sorry they knocked over the vase, made a mess, cracked your plate and woke you up!
ReplyDeleteThx for the laugh!
I think you should also include funny dr.seuss-ish poems for adults in your book! That'll be fun to read. Way to go with the book deal!
ReplyDeleteOh I am soo glad you are going with Guideposts!!! That just puts the icing on the cake that is you...you love your kids, you love your Lord and are not ashamed or afraid to make sure He gets the Glory! Love ya!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is just so strange! I don't know you..but I am cheering you on as if you were "family". You live such a hectic life, but you have a real gift..and now you have a 2-book deal!I used to click on LILEKS every morning..but your blog is just the best thing evahhhh! Thanks so much! The skating kid was a hilarious! How can they think up new things like they do?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations.! That is wonderul news. I just read Guidepost this morning in fact. Quality publication!
ReplyDeleteI love reading your stuff - and writing - got any ponters since you are a big time writer now? LOL!
JO
http://teensandtriplets.blogspot.com/
Awww, what a nice hubby to get you flowers...and LOL (sorry for laughing), but that is just so appropo that the kids would break that very vase of flowers so soon after getting them. *tears of laughter* The morning just wouldn't be complete without something like that happening, right?
ReplyDeleteYAY for you on the book deal(!)...and I'm so excited to hear there will be TWO books! WOO-WHOOOOO! You go, Dawn!
The flowers are gorgeous. I dont believe you are throwing tupperware away? It has a life time guarantee. If you have replaced the vase just a tip in case you didnt know, put a teaspoon of sugar into the water will keep your flowers longer. I have only recently become game enough to keep flowers in my house lol, too scared that a child will knock them over.
ReplyDeleteCongratulationw! That's so exciting! Sorry about your flowers--they were beautiful! What a sweet husband. And I love the way you turned the baby doll incident into an intro to the book announcement! That's one reason why your book's going to be awesome! Great writing!
ReplyDeleteWhy do people care if they're the first to comment?? Maybe they should set loftier goals for themselves! Like, how about writing a book?
ReplyDeleteWhy are people so anxious to be first in your comments?
ReplyDeletewhy is it such a big deal to them?
I hope your books make it downunder to Australia, I'll be watching out for them. I do love a good laugh from my reading material.
I have never posted a comment before, but I read often. I am a SAHM of 5 and you keep me in stitches.
ReplyDeleteAnyway congrats on your book. Good luck!
Mrs. Michael
Congratulations!!!! That is super cool about the books! :) I can't wait to read them!
ReplyDeleteAnd tupperware plates make good skates? I might just have to try that! Well, when my "almost 3" year old isn't watching! ;)
that's awesome and you are too funny! I just stumbled on your blog from one of my friends, she has your link...
ReplyDeletecongrats on the book deal, how fun! and keep writing about those plates, I totally got a chuckle out of that one!
p.s. great name!
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteAwww, congratulations Dawn!! Can't wait to read it! Please tell me I'll be able to buy it in UK?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting a book deal! I think that Guidepost is a great organization. I look forward to purchasing my copy.
ReplyDeleteTupperware as skates? Your children are brilliant!! How about those used CD disk? Ask your one of your boys what I can do with one of those?
http://www.organizeddoodles.blogspot.com/
Congrats on your book deal! As a mommy of little boys, I can relate.
ReplyDeleteAt least he didn't throw the real baby around. Don't even tell him that's what you had originally thought...no point in giving him options! lol!
That's fantastic Dawn please say it will be on Amazon .........can't wait already know what I want for Christmas 2008 now lol
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful news ... Guideposts is a great publication.
ReplyDeleteGreat going and I hope the proceeds go a long way toward your kids' education.
P.S. Someone told me that Tupperware has a lifetime replacement guarantee ... is that true? Anybody?
Ohh I just checked Guideposts looks like I can order it online there.that's fantastic even easier
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the book deal! That is exciting! Any possibility it will rhyme? Your "Plates aren't skates" was just too funny! Thanks for sharing your life with the rest of us!
ReplyDeleteI just want to say a quick congratulations! I've been trying to get my book published, and find it's the illustrator being the headache in the process. At least you have an agent and the works, all you have to do is write!! Fantastic news for you and your whole brood!
ReplyDeleteI also want to say a quick thank you, I checked out your mamaslike site, and am now motivated to create a webpage so I can submit my home business to you in time for next holidays!! Thank you so much for the motivation!!
Congratulations!!!!! That is so cool to get published:) I cant wait to get a copy. Thanks so much for the funny story about your son's creative skates...who knows maybe he will grow up and be the new skate board sensation:)
ReplyDelete@@*** CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS! **@@
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for you! Do you know that your blog is one of the first sites I check everyday....after FoxNews.com and my local news station website?!
I will anxiously await your book...and am looking forward to seeing how your publisher wants to promote it. Tell them that Western New York is a great place to Promote in!!
Have a wonderful day today Dawn!
Donna, Brockport, NY :)
Have fun and enjoy the celebration. My daughter lived your life (7 children) she's 41 and things are calmer. I wish it to you. We write about her endeavors on www.grammology.com Now the kids that are older, do the older things that aren't always good...this is fun too..ha ha
ReplyDeleteWish you much success with your book..You moms deserve it.
Dorothy from grammology
remember to call your grandma

Yayyy! Congrats, Dawn, on finding a definite publisher. And not one, but two books!!! Yeehaw! While you should so save your best stuff for your book, hope you still find time to post on your blog (could completely understand if you have, um, a bit much going on in your life!!)
ReplyDeleteMelissa
Hey Dawn,
ReplyDeleteWonderful that Guidepost has you! They are a quality organization. Congratulations!
Dawn D.
Congrats Dawn!
ReplyDeleteGood for you!
The flowers are/were beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the contract!
Congratulations on your book! You have a very entertaining blog and such a great spirit about you. You seem to be able to laugh about so many things (I guess that's better than crying, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah Dawn. I'm so happy for you! I can't wait for the book to come out. It's already on my Christmas/Birthday/Valentines Day/Mothers Day list.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, if you want cheap "skates" for your son, go to home depot, get four of those peel and stick tiles. Stick two to each other back to back and you have perfect carpet skates. I usually cut them so they're round. And I usually only make one. Then give them a broom, mop, or swiffer and let them push themselves around on it. My five year old has gone through several:) They do start to chip which is why you make them round, and why you throw them away and get new ones. I hate picking tile chunks off the edge of the wall:) That glue REALLY sticks.
Dawn, that is wonderful news. I'm so happy for you. Congratulations many times over. That is really awesome. The flowers are/were beautiful. Margie
ReplyDeleteWowweeee Kaboweeee! Good for you! Congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the book deal! Will be looking forward to it. I love Guideposts!
ReplyDeleteDon't throw the Tupperware away. It has a lifetime warranty against chips, cracks, flaking and peeling. As long as it hasn't been melted, they'll usually replace it or give you credit for it!
I am SO happy for you! That is just GREAT news for all of us AND for you!
ReplyDeleteMy boys have used the tupperware type stuff for all kinds of things but never for skates... Hope they don't read your blog and get any new ideas! They come up with plenty on their own!
Thank you for making me laugh this morning. I hate the fact that someone elses misfortune makes me laugh but their are mornings that I am SUPER happy that those kinds of things are happening to you and not to me. - Sorry but it's true!
Sorry about the rude awakening, but congratulations on the book! I'm enjoying your blog so much and have invited my friends and family to read too. I look forward to reading your book next year.
ReplyDeleteYAH!!!! Good for you. I am so happy for you to be getting your book published. Good things come to those who deserve it, and boy do you ever!
ReplyDeleteKids will be kids you gatta love em. I don't do mornings either, at all. I even have most of mine trained that you are not allowed to come out of your rooms before 8 am cause I need that first cup of coffee to deal with you. This is for weekends and vacations. My 3 year old hasn't learned that yet so on the weekends dad gets him and I get to sleep in!
Take care looking forward to the book!
Tonya
Congratulations!!! Even though I don't have kids, I'll buy it as I just love reading your blog everyday. Always put a smile on my face or gets me laughing.
ReplyDeletePeggy
Congrats on the publishing deal! Your blog is so much fun to read :)
ReplyDeleteAs for Tupperware-- if it's real Tupperware, they replace it for free if it cracks or breaks. My family usually has it replaced by the lady at our local (Mt. Prospect) farmers' market, but a Google search would probably let you know other options.
Keep up the good writing!
YAY! That's so exciting. Congratulations. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I'm so excited for you.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the book deal, that is wonderful news!! And those roses are beautiful! I dont do mornings either but unfortunately my 9 month old and 2 1/2 year old do thus the post at 7:18 in the morning!
ReplyDeleteCongratulation, Dawn! We all can't wait for the book to come out!
ReplyDeleteI, too, have been a lurker. I can't wait to read your blog every morning as kids are eating breakfast. Congrats!!! and many more successes!!!! You rock!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Dawn! I have been following this blog since the pokemon cards! And just so you know, even though I KNOW you are leaving stuff out of your blog for your book I still visit EVERYDAY! I am SO excited for your book and I think I will be giving it to ALL my mommy friends Christmas 2008! :D Again Congrats and I wish you LOTS of luck!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the publisher! That's awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has found out that plates are not skates as well, or rather, one is not very useful. She didn't do it on purpose, but she went running through the living room (what else is new), stepped on one of her plastic plates from her Dora kitchen & went flying. Only one of her legs though. She did a beautiful split. :P She was not happy for all of two seconds until she realized that plates made her do that & she wanted to try it again. I quickly put those plates away. I don't need any injuries, thank you.
Congratulations on receiving such pretty roses....and oh yeah, an official contract, deal, offer you couldn't refuse! But the roses was an awesome touch, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteCongrats! That's terrific!
ReplyDeleteAnd the flowers are beautiful. Or, er, WERE beautiful.
Hooray!!!! Congrats!!!
ReplyDeleteNow buy your future speed skater some of those furniture mover discs before you lose all your tupperware. Oh and a helmet, lol.
That is great news! Congrats on your deal! Use some of the cash to hire a couple of babysitters every once in a while. :-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Dawn! Wish I could replace your flowers, but here's a virtual dozen instead. Have a marvelous day on cloud 9!
ReplyDelete@-->-- @-->-- @-->-- @-->--

Congratulations! The Guideposts folks seem like good people; they'll probably be a pleasure to work with.
ReplyDeleteHi Dawn, Like we All have said..Congrats on the book deal! It will be so fun reading it and giving it as gifts. Speaking of gifts...What is Christmas like at Your House??? Do you get the list of, I wants? Does Santa still exsist? How do you keep the older ones from spoiling it for the younger ones?? Do you shop on-line or the dreaded stores? Just had to ask. I bet you will have a chapter in your book about Christmas! Kristine =^..^= in Michigan
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! That is exciting news. And I think a line of alternative-Seuss style books would be fun to read.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I look forward to reading your books!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and best of luck.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing worse than being startled out of sleep by "them". I feel your pain.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reinforcing the normalcy of MY life with 4 children.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one to find half eaten sandwiches on bookshelves and things that "used" to be bananas....
Thanks for the giggles!!
So happy for you!!! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! This is so exciting for you. I can't wait to read your book. I will definitely be waiting for every little update I can get.
ReplyDeleteWow, that book deal sounds great! Just as an aside, you do know that if you Tupperware is really Tupperware that the company will replace the cracked stuff for you, right? Some sort of guarantee for life. Wish the rest of life was like that, but at least Tupperware is. (Not that I have any, but that's another story.)
ReplyDeletecongrats on your accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteGuideposts has been read in our home for a long time -- great publisher!
As for the flowers/water/baby and skate plates -- I got three boys so know your pain :)
Great and funny blog -- you go girl!
Congratulations! I can't wait to read your books!
ReplyDeleteI am soooo not a morning person either. And I hate 24 hour days. I so wish there were 48 hours schedules. Let me sleep 12, stay up for 36 and we're set. I do my best work between midnight and 4 in the morning.
One commenter posted Carpet skates??? Who knew?!
Congratulations! how exciting about your book. You know, what has happened to you is probably the dream of like 90% of mom bloggers...the book deal, I mean. We are envious a tade, but very happy for you- one of our own made it!!
ReplyDeletethe skate story made me laugh, it could be a Dr. Seuss book
Yipee!!! Now I have all my Borhtday/Christmas presents set for next year. Hope my friends like to read :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!! I can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!! Looking forward to your book. Maybe I can ask for it for my thirty-(something-ish)th birthday!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't throw away your Tupperware!!! Tupperware offers a lifetime guarantee! If you ever have anything Tupperware that gets damaged just contact a Tupperware representative and your item will be replaced. No questions asked.
ReplyDeleteNow - get that plate set back together!!!
Congratulations on your book deal! Can't wait to read it.
CONGRATULATIONS! How exciting this must be! To get roses!!! lol - just joshin'. The book, I meant, but the roses, too. What a thoughtful man you have. And pink!
ReplyDeleteThe Lord is really blessing you and your attitude in all the ruckus (sp?) is inspiring. Your family is in my prayers. Have fun writing!
That is absolutely wonderful news!! Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteI loved the Dr. Seuss bit. You are hilarious. You have to have a sense of humor with a baseball team living in the house!!
Get your boys some of those furniture sliders. They work great as carpet skates.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the book!
Congratulations on your book deal X 2!! Sorry about the flowers, they are/were beautiful! Pam
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful!!! We're so happy to see a fellow mom making it happen! Can't wait to get the book and show support :)
ReplyDeleteI know I am one of hundreds commenting, and as if you will have time to read them all, but oh well I'll add to the comment list with a well wished..Congratulations! It really truly is a wonderful accomplishment..I too can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteHi Dawn,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
Wow! Guideposts- this's impressive! Good Job! :)
Carpet skates are fun. My boys received them as Christmas presents last year. I tried them out (for safety reason, of course).
Can't wait for the book!
That wonderful news, Dawn! Congratulations on everything! PS - I'm not a morning person either. I even tell everyone in the house to not even talk to me until I take the first sip or two of my coffee.
ReplyDeleteHey! That's great! I have loved Guideposts since I was a child. Congrats on the book deal!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteI can see my Tommy Monster going skating on plates. I'm glad he can't find your blog to get fresh ideas.
I tried to sneak downstairs before them this morning and have coffee in peace, but they found me. I really need to find the volume control on the 12 y.o.
CONGRATULATIONS! Looking forward to getting your books when they're published. Meanwhile we can just continue to enjoy your blog, which I just LOVE!
ReplyDelete...and your third book - the Picture book - PLATES ARE NOT SKATES - if you're not using this, I WILL! How funny!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS!!!!! As a aspiring author, I am SOOOOOOOO thrilled for you!!!
Kudos friend!!!
I am so hoping I will post a pic of a bouquet for the same reason someday soon!
God opened a huge door for you. Happy you are walking through...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Dawn!!
ReplyDeleteI just read your Pokemon eBay listing and had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard! I also have 6 kids (1 husband), and get asked constantly if they are all mine (they look exactly alike). I can SOOOOO relate to everything you wrote about. I look forward to reading more of your daily antics, and hopefully getting some ideas/tips on raising big families. The husband reminds me that my job will be over in 15 years and I will have all the free time I want...hopefully I'll still (?) be sane.
ReplyDeleteThat's so exciting! I check your blog fairly often, but it will be a joy to read your book when it comes out! Thanks for your humor & thanks for your words.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Dawn! I am so happy that you are finally going to be published. You deserve it! Tell Hubby that he picked out very pretty flowers. I can't wait to buy your books as your blog makes my day and keeps me laughing. Thanks again for sharing your stories Dawn...you are truly gifted.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
T.J.'s Mom
Hey be glad he didn't use glass plates as they glide on the carpet MUCH easier than plastic!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the book and I look forward to hearing more about it & your fun life.
Dawn,
ReplyDeleteUnlike the majority of your readers, I am not a Mom, or even female, but I *love* this blog and have read it pretty much every day since I saw that Pokemon auction. To see the process that's taken place over the past few months has truly been an inspiration. I can't tell you how happy I am for you over this book deal. Your story isn't just inspirational to Moms, but to anyone who writes, thinks, and works in anonymity. I will be first in line to buy both of these books.
Congrats.
OMGosh! That is fantastic! I am so thrilled for you! CONGRATS!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGuidepost...uh, are you sure you aren't mormon?
ReplyDeleteYahoo for the book deal! I think that a large part of your appeal to so many readers (besides the fact that you're funny) is that it is so nice to see someone actually being rewarded for having a large family and finding a way to keep a sense of humor about it. I'm expecting our 5th child, and trust me, I know that society in general does not reward mothers with a lot of kids (see eBay post about glares in grocery store). It is so nice to see the hard-working stay-at-home-mom who has her priorities straight finally getting some back pay (other than in hugs and kisses and good grades), and we are all living it through you. good job. you deserve it!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I can't wait till the book comes out!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat great news! I love Guidepost. By the way, I am reading Scream Free Parenting. Thanks for recommending. I needed it!
ReplyDeleteIve been lurking too but just have to say CONGRATULATIONS on the book deal. . .I hope you earn lots of money to spend on your lovely family.Your kids are GREAT especially when they are skating on plates. . .that made me laugh so much.Best Wishes from the UK.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Dawn! I've been passing out your blog site to the moms at our local library (I do children's programming at our local library)...they're loving it too! Who says you can't get what you wish for?!
ReplyDeleteDawn...
ReplyDeleteWOW! So THAT'S what long-stemmed roses look like!
He's a KEEPER, Dawn...BONAFIDE!
After 33 years of marriage, if I'm lucky and Valentine's or Mother's Day doesn't fall too close to the date, hubby just might get a few of them "purties" mixed in with the snapdragon/stinkweed arrangement he's planning for the top my casket!
MANY CONGRATS ON THE BOOK DEAL!
And I HOPE that EVIL Bank never sees a PENNY of your "fortune!" Perhaps you could send copies of your Guidepost check(s) and your new bank's deposit slips to EVIL Bank...along with a little note...something like:
Dear Evil Bank,
In regard to the enclosed, I'd suggest that you don't mess around with Moms like me in the future!
Just because we have to clean up a lot of crap...doesn't mean we have to take yours!"
Dawn...YOU SO DESERVE ALL YOU ARE RECEIVING! SO HAPPY FOR YOU!
Sincerely
Nancy Binky
WOOHOOO! CONGRATS to all of you! I'd like to thank my oldest one for this, I'll thank the baby for that....just get started writing an acceptance speech too!
ReplyDeleteSo cool that Guideposts worked out for you. I actually just sent a GP book about sisters to a friend. Lovely work coming from that publishing house.
Keep up the great work, Dawn!
maggieb!
YEAH for you!!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your plate and vase.
Did your son win the race
down the hall on your plates?
I do not like green eggs and ham! = )
Hooray for you, Dawn!! I am very new to the world of blogs...in fact, yours is the first I have ever read, but I guess since I've been reading for awhile, I've been a "lurker" (another new term for me!!), so thought I would finally comment because I was so happy to read that you got a book deal! I loved hearing that you had been praying for a way to help add to the family income, and your prayers have been answered! I know how great God is, but it is so wonderful to be reminded now and again! I am a happy mommy of 5, and so can relate to SO MANY of your stories, so now can't wait to read your books!!!! Congrats!!
ReplyDeleteWow, Dawn! That's great news! Congrats! That definately warrants roses. Hope its a bestseller.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I've enjoyed reading your blog ever since I stumbled upon it in the Chicago Tribune (online) and have been laughing out loud since. :) Great job!

Congratulations Dawn!!!! I am so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Dawn! Couldn't happen to a nicer, funnier Mom! I love your blog and share your pain, though I only have four kids to tend to. We homeschool though, so maybe that makes us even LOL!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the Fall of 2008!
Congratulations!!! I can only imagine how excited you must be! And I loved the little poem; sounds like something we would read to my son at bedtime!
ReplyDeleteAwesome for you!
ReplyDeleteYOU THROW OUT BROKEN TUPPERWARE??
ReplyDeletefor shame Call your rep.. They are lifetime guaranteed and I bet there is no disclaimer about plate skating in the house
Hey, Dawn! Anyone ever tell you that Tupperware has a lifetime guarantee? LOL Just thought you might want to know that obscure fact.

ReplyDeleteThose roses were beautiful. I bet they smelled good, too. Were you able to rescue them?
Congratulations! Waiting eagerly for the book. Fall... OK, we can handle that...
ReplyDeleteBTW, I use blogger, too, and when you click "view comments" there's a submission form right at the top next to the first comments. Maybe you could work that in here, too; it would take us lazies one less click and a bunch less scrolling to leave comments.
I've heard of parents taping sponges to their kids feet to clean ( um I mean skate) on the floors.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS to you & your family! Can't wait to read your books!
Oh, I love Guideposts. Awesome and congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I'll be on the lookout for your books because I LOVE your blog. I discovered it via a link on a friend's blog a few weeks ago and immediately added it to my "Blogs I Like" list. I've been lurking since then, but I had to comment. My boys are just 2-almost-3 and 1, but already I make that snap decision when I hear a crash: "Should I race in and see if anyone is bleeding (much), or should I just fervently pray that the rapture will come RIGHT NOW?"
ReplyDeleteThanks for being such a great source of inspiration and belly laughs to other moms.
Congratulations!!!!! I have enjoyed seeing how things have been going since the Ebay auction!
ReplyDeleteGod bless,
Elaine from Birmingham, AL.

ReplyDeleteCongratulation! We are all celebrating with you. It just seems like fall of '08 is too far away, but definitely worth the wait! Thanks for adding some extra humor into my life on a daily basis. There is no doubt that God gave you the gift of writing!
On the whole skate note, they do make mopping shoes. You could kill two birds with one stone. And occupy the kiddos at the same time. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteFélicitations, eh bien fait, bonne chance, bon courage, et peut votre stylo jamais ne cesse pas
ReplyDeleteMANIFIQUE !!!!

ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful news! I mean about the publisher, not the flowers sustaining attacks from the flying doll! lol

ReplyDeleteCongrats on the book deal!
ReplyDeleteNot to jump the gun, but do you have an ISBN number yet? :-b I want to put your book on my wish/giftlist, and those that read mine like the ISBN numbers.

Congratulations! And one year--that's fast, in the publishing world.
ReplyDeleteOh, oops, sorry, Blogger went into default mode there and I'm not on Blogger anymore. Anyway, my first book is out there and it took 17 months--about average.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! And that's perfect timing - my twins are due in February, so by fall I should be lucid enough to read a book again! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I'm an avid video game player who logs nearly 10 hours a day playing them or discussing them, but I actually anticipate your book more than anything I can think of right now.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the book deal! I look forward to reading it next fall.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!
ReplyDeleteAfter your first and second books, why don't you consider sending Plates are not Skates in for publishing?
Dawn,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I'm so happy for you! :)
