Refrigerators Open From the Inside

Yes, yes, my blog design is new. Mia, over at The Blog Cafe came up with this awesome design for me! The picture of the old lady (that's me!) in the shoe was done by Rick at Organized Doodles. Pretty cool, huh? For those of you who felt the need to write and let me know that you don't like my new layout. Ummm, how to put this nicely....I didn't actually ask for a vote on the new design. I like it. If you have a different design in mind, start your own blog and knock yourself out! :)

I'm all for learning. I learn something every day. Today I learned that if you're inside a refrigerator and the door latches shut, you can actually open it from the inside which is a handy little feature.

I also learned that men are big babies when it comes to being sick. (I actually learned this one a long time ago, but it was reinforced tonight.)

I learned that despite how often you pull the refrigerator out from the wall and vacuum behind it, it's never quite enough.

I learned that six year olds don't always have the best sense of time. My first grader told me today, "It looks like your computer hasn't been dusted in like thirty years!" Ummm thanks, hon. (By the way, I dusted it six days ago.)

My friend, Denise sent me this questionnaire because she's just "fun" that way. Thanks, Dee! Anyway, I figured I'd post it here so you can all learn something too.

I don't own tie shoes, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't untie them if I did.

10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM?
Yes

Hmmmm, that's a tough one. Their eyes. Unless there's something very obviously freaky about them, like black teeth or a tattoo on their nose or pink hair....

37. WHAT IS THE FARTHEST YOU HAVE BEEN FROM HOME?
The Bahamas

38. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TALENT?

No apologies for your selection. Love your daily posts. Keep on writing and making us stretch our laughing muscles.

  8. Dawn, you are great. This got me laughing so hard. Man, I'm wiping mascara out of my eyes just so I can type this. HA! Ok, well, keep up the excellent work. Your new layout is fantastic! Also, I haven't been reading many comments lately, but hope I haven't missed the World News airing. Do post about it when it happens, won't you? Love ya!!

  9. Love the new blog site! Love that it doesn't take forever to load! Love that I now know your first name. Somehow I missed that part -oops!
I thought of you earlier as I was catching up on emails, I looked over to see my daughter nicely coloring, but then I noticed that she had neatly packed her crayons into a new crayon holder... my large spools of 3-cord thread. At least they're contained huh?
    Ooh, loved the questionairre too!

  10. I love the new look of your blog!! I also loved your questionaire answers. I always know to come here when I need a pick-me-up. Thanks so much!!

  11. Great new blog design! It has so much more personality.

Thank you for today's post! I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates getting silly questionnaires emailed to them.

  12. Love the new artwork but especially the husband running away. Hits a little close to home, maybe why it's so funny. Others might not even notice! I have to tell you that I can also recite all the states in alphabetical order (a little trick I learned from "Glee" club in elementary school. Love your blog, it makes me feel like I might actually make it as a mother. Have your kids ever locked you out of the house? That is my 3 year olds' favorite trick (or in the basement). He won't open the door either unless I bribe him with candy or something. It's a problem in the winter when the hidden key is buried under 3 feet of snow. Oh well, love your positive energy! :)

If Hugs are chocolate, what are kises?
    Love the new look.
And, referring back to a previous entry - I really wanted a smiley photo of my boy and resorted to saying "stinky butt" to get it.
And the missing brain? I think the official medical terminology for my condition is "Cottage Cheese For Brains - or CCFB (for those in the know)". A condition brought on by pregnancy, it worries me that I won't recover from it and people will never know if I have senile dementia or I am just normal old "post babies" me.

    keep up the good work.

  20. Hi, I just wanted to say thanks for using the word "glop." I don't think I've heard or read that since finishing the 6th grade reading assignments many years ago.

I love your sense of humor, but I like that you're serious at times as well. You and Erma Bombeck would have been bosom friends.

  21. Hi Dawn! Love, Love, LOVE your new web design! It's fun and fresh!

By the way, having recently purchased (as in my husband went to the store because I HATE shopping for appliances) a new refrigerator, I found out that there are fridges you can buy without freezers! I love it! It's all fridge!

We bought a separate, small chest freezer that holds half a cow. I now feel like a farm wife (the closest I'll ever be to a farm wife since we live in the middle of a city) every time I open it and do an excavation for dinner.

Love your list, especially your favorite smells. One of mine, I'm ashamed to admit, is the smell of a freshly opened pack of cigarettes. Not ones that are lit, just opened. I don't smoke and my husband quit smoking years ago, but that new cigarette smell is very comforting. I think it has to do with my father, a man who will never be able to give them up...

And kittens. I love the smell of kittens. Especially when they are all bright eyed and full of energy...

I have a friend that sends me questionaires like that she told me once that I am the only one who always returns them. why because its something adult to do. My answers are always much like yours.

Well I gotta make this short since I have 2 hours to get ready for trip to farm with my 2 preschoolers. This ought to be fun since there is something wrong with my left foot and I am limping. Who knows whats wrong with it. Sigh maybe I will go to the doctor. Take care

  55. Sunday, at church, a 7 year old that I had just met was really into telling me about her grandmother dying when she was one day old.(I doubt that was true...but I digress!) Anyway, she said to me, "My Grandma was *really* old, close to a hundred when she died. She was probably like 22 years old!!" Well, this 42 year old did all I could to not bust out laughing in this earnest little girls face! So, guess this means kids that are 7 have no sense of time, either!!

BTW, I LOVE the new blog design. You know what you can tell all those people who don't like it, right?!?! :-)

It would have taken me forever. It probably took you 2 mins. I also think you have inspired me to only answer those polls from friends in a funny but purely sarcastic way from now on - no more straight shooting so THANKS! (-;

LOL, Dawn! Not sure I wanna know how you learned that about the refrigerator opening from the inside...and I totally hear you on the vacuuming behind the fridge never quite being enough. I was embarrassed when my husband pulled ours out recently. Enough Cheerios to feed my toddler for a week! (Don't worry, I didn't. Feed them to him, I mean. But he did dance on them in heavy toddler shoes while I went for the broom, grounding it to powder that he then tracked all over the floor in in two seconds flat. *sigh*

  96. Answer to #26...
    The Pirate Movie??

I have never actually met someone who knew that movie other than the Christopher Atkins-obsessed friend I rented it with when I was 10.

If you have no idea what I am talking about then you most likely didn't watch that movie. You were probably more posh and saw the Pirates of Penzance.

  97. LOL! I have taken that smae quiz! My sister and friend send them to me all the time.

  98. Hi Dawn,
Love love love the new design! How stinking cute is the cartoon drawing too?
Well one by one my family has had the flu bug. I now am on the 3rd day of mine but feeling somewhat better. If only the sore throat and fever would go away now. If your hubby has this I can vouch for him that it is horrible and I have become a huge baby too. My hubby has not gotten this yet and I dread the thought of that happening because he will be worse then I could ever be.

Cool thing is even while I am sick my store keeps getting sales. Those bo bunny word albums are a huge hit. Very hard to get your hands on too.

    Hope you all stay healthy!!

  99. I really can't believe you took the time to answer all those, but very clever answers! And I have to ask--how do you know you can get out of the refrigerator??

    ReplyDelete
  100. I'm new to reading your site, but I love it and I love the design...so pfffttt...to the mean people who weren't nice to you!

    ReplyDelete
  101. I only have 2 kids and never vacuum behind the fridge! Under the stove occassionally, but never the fridge.

Also, love the new lay-out! That cartoon is AWESOME! And didn't realize you live in Chicago--I grew up in the South Suburbs and ever since I moved to DC, I've been OBSESSED with all things Chicago, including moving back...*sigh*.

  102. Wow, I guess there are quite a lot of us who know and love The Pirate Movie. Of course now I have that song going through my head, but there are worse things I guess. Takes me back to when I was a kid and I used to act out the whole thing line for line with custume changes and everything. I can still probably do the dance to the Happy Ending song.

  103. Love the new site design. You responses to those questions had me snort/laugh at the office. Not pretty. You crack me up.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I just dont understand people that would take the time to complain to you about your layout? Just boggles the mind. They are the same ones that feel it's ok to say to you...'you need to lose about 15 pounds before you wear that again...God bless your heart'. Because we all know that anything followed with 'bless her heart' or 'God love her' is safe to say.

That outfit makes her look so big, bless her heart. Her house looks like it aint been touched in 10 years, bless her heart...her website is just awful, God love her. So just ignore it, LOL. I love your new design, think it suits you very well. I love the image of your husband on there, priceless. And the kids all over is great. I have 5 of my own so I know what that's like.

Just stay true to yourself & those that are your true friends will stand by ya. I'm doing a Bible Study called The Friendships of Women and it is awesome...I highly recommend it!!

Thanks Dawn for more laughs, that I can ALWAYS use. Have a blessed day.

  105. I love both scary movies and happy endings, but I usually can't afford the latter.

And men get to be big babies when we're sick. But only because we have to pretend that any injury, even the mortal kind, are in fact painless scratches that we didn't even notice until you women pointed out the blood, severe bruising, clearly broken bone, and/or severed limb. Plus we kill spiders and mice for you. It's like a trade.

  106. I'd take a baby-sick husband over a stoic-sick husband any day. Last time my DH was sick, he took all the doors off the bedrooms, frames and all. Why? Because he had wanted to replace them and thought he might as well do it since he was home sick. Sadly, he hadn't bought/painted any replacements yet, so we went doorless for a month before he found the time to finish it.

  107. Oh you just crack me up!!! I read your blog first thing every day when I get home from work to get some laughs and fortify myself for cooking dinner!

  110. Hi Dawn!

I'm the nut with the 7 kids--you have to have a sense of humor or you'd end up in a ward somewhere! I think that your new bloy layout is cute--I can't believe that anyone would tell you that they didn't like it, but I loved your answer because I LOVE sarcasim! I live in the Northern KY area--not too far away. I can't wait for your new book to come out either!! Take care and keep making me laugh--I can totally relate! Cheryl

  111. Wow, you vacuum behind the fridge! We have lived in our house 7 years, and that fridge has been moved once for a repair, and that is it LOL! Should I ask how you discovered that the fridge opens without the feature??

  112. Hey! My name is Denise, and one of my nicknames is Dee and I sure do like to think that I am "just fun that way" but I'm pretty sure I didn't send this questionnaire to you.

Love your blog and I like to think that my blog is half as fun as yours! I love to read you every day - I only have 2 kids and I can only manage about 1 blog entry a week - maybe 6 kids gives you a lot more material but I'm not going there!

  113. Oh man, I thought I was the only one who knew my states in ABC order. :0) It's funny, I think the 50 nifty United States song was about the only that stuck with me from school. I know they talked alot about pie in math but I could never figure out if it was pumpkin or lemon.

    Love your new layout!

  114. I was thinking how much I LOVE the new layout when I find myself AMAZED that others would actually tell you they don't like it! What is up with that? Your blog do as you please! :) God Bless you!

  115. The cartoon is fabulous, as is your blog, although I do have to read it sitting down because I get exhausted just thinking about six kids. I have a 3 1/2 year-old and a just-turned-2-year-old and they are almost too much for a 45-year-old mom. I'd love to get a cartoon like that on my blog but I'm kind of afraid of what someone would come up with!

  118. I found a nice beach scene mouse pad for you. Current Catalog (currentcatalog.com) and search for mouse pad. It's on the second page and can be personalized. They have some other nice ones too. :)

  119. Do you know why I love your blog? Because you quote The Pirate Movie. AWESOME!

    ReplyDelete
  120. OMG!!! So many people who actually know The Pirate Movie! All of my friends think I'm crazy when I mention this movie because they've never heard of it. My sister and I used to recite every line when it first came out way back in the... nevermind. Scary thing is, I actually own this on DVD. ;-) Yes I know, I'm weird.

LOVE the new layout and love to hear of all your new found fame. You are such a riot and I really, really enjoy spending part of my day reading your stories. Thank you!

  121. It's not that it isn't a pretty graphic or that it they're not nice colors - it's just that the illustration is so LARGE that it prevents me from getting to the content! I'm not here to look at a pretty picture. I'm here to ready your writing.

  122. Hi Dawn
Loving your new look. I got sent this link today and as well as sending it on to a few friends, I thought you might also appreciate the sentiment behind it. I dare say you'll recognise a refrain or five in it too!
Good luck wiht your book by the way: make sure to release it here in New Zealand too! :)

    ReplyDelete
  123. Um... I'd like your new look, if I could see it. I support you in a new design, and wouldn't dream of criticizing it because it is your personal choice, but I can't see it. I just see a huge white space at the top of the page.

I think the new layout may be incompatible with some browsers or firewalls, because I can't see anything but black and white text, and red X's for some of the buttons that had graphics before. I also can't see the navigation buttons so that I can catch up on previous entries. The only button I can see at the top is the American Cancer Society button... everything else is red X's or blank.

I think there's a column over on the right side, but that's blank too, though I can see the outline of a box if I hover the mouse over it.

Could your web designer offer an alternate layout so that those of us who can't see the current buttons aren't navigating totally blind?

    Thank you,

    AJ
